Annoying banners...

I was just wondering if anything can be done to the following banner:

It is quite annoying and blasts the default windows error sound every 3 seconds.

If you use Firefox, use Adblock on it. I don't think Tosa controls which ads get put up. I think the advertising just rotates according to the whims of whoever the ad agency is.

The ads help fund the site which helps to keep it up and running. I somehow doubt Tosa puts them up there because he likes how they look. Try using noscript and/or adblock if they really annoy you.

Using firefox getting an annoying ' CONGRADULATIONS. YOU HAVE ONE A FREE 1000$ WAL-MART GIFT CARD'With AdBlock you can right click on it, and select to block the image/frame. If it's flash, you can use the tab at the top of the animation to get rid of it.

That still doesn't sort out the source of the problem though. It was much better when they were kept out of everybody's way at the bottom of the screen. In a way, this could be considered to be add-on abuse by the administration. That area was intended for community ads - not flashy banners from advertisers such as doubleclick.

Is this a popup window? If so are you sure it originates from the site as I've never seen it.

I've just fired up IE 6, for the first time in probably a year and visited every forum, while logged out. and these are my observations:

1) The bottom banners are on every single page.

2) The top banners are in the arena, gameroom, and frontroom. There is also a banner that appears in here. This seems to be different. Also the content of the frontroom banners differs from that of the arena/gameroom ones (different targeting).

3) The top banners in the MTW and M2TW forums are not the same thing but ads for mods. For some reason I couldn't see the coliseum ones, if there are any. That may be down to the forum skin in there?

Again, this kind of advertising is what helps fund a site's continued existence. The alternative is passing the hat around amongst it's wealthier members.

I block the top banner, and leave the bottom banner, since it usually doen't have sound, plus it funds the site.

Ads are targeted to certain location members.
