I have recently upgraded my machine from 256MB RAM to 1024MB RAM. Almost every slowdown issue appears to be solved, but the two processes mentioned in the title use up 100% CPU for several minutes. svchost.exe generally calms down after a while, but I usually have to end StartEAK.exe or it will hog the CPU usage for up to half an hour before the computer continues to start up...

I know that StartEAK has something to do with the Compaq special button interface and svchost handles a bunch of other services, so I would like to know if I could do something about either.

I have Windows XP home. As far as I know, AVG, Spybot S+D, and Teatimer are the only significant things running in the background.

Does the utility have an updated version? Would you mind to check ?

And here are some user comments about it on a website:

Got this file on a Compaq yes but it was taking me like an hour to be able to do something with the computer. After I killed the process the machine finally came to life. Can be something else that's causing this problem on this machine I don't know.

This program is used to run the proprietary Compaq Keyboard buttons unique to Compaq cpu - according to the process list in Spybot S&D

its only a support Process, which supports the "special" key on you keyboard and can be reinstalled without any risk

I guess you're not the only one to run into such problem.
