I'm having a CTD in a Pahlava campaign I was writing an AAR on, it's not something I have come across before. My saves load and I can play for a few seconds but then it crashes. I have tried a clean reinstall, I can't run the validation as I only ever get a blank page-I have Java installed. I have attached the save if anyone wanted to check it out.

You haven't installed the game into program files under Vista, have you?

No, I wish it was something as simple as that.

No that would merely explain why a validation appears to be out for you.

The only other thing I can think of why the validation would not work (apart from your Java being so old it won't work with the program...) is that you're actually struggling with the slightly cumbersome DOS cmd shell. You could try the following:

In your RTW folder create a shortcut to C:\SYSTEM32\cmd.exe (alternatively: C:\some\path\to\cmd.exe, it's the cmd.exe you need a shortcut to);
Right click the new shorcut, go to Properties, and modify the field called "Start In" so it reads the path to your RTW folder;
Launch the cmd.exe from the shortcut and enter the following command

java -jar <jar_file_to_execute>

Where the <jar_file_to_execute> is the validator.

Then see if that works. If not issue the following command in the shell:

java -version

And post its output, so Bovi can check you have a compatible version of Java on your system.

I installed the latest Java download and the validation worked, guess I should have tried that before.:embarassed: Thanks for the help Tellos.

There was a load of other stuff but it seemed to be because I have BI installed and it was just expecting RTW, if it's needed I can post it but it's looooong. I assume a fresh download and another clean reinstall is in order?

edit:I tried a fresh download and clean install (I even uninstalled and reinstalled Steam), but I'm still getting the CTDs and the same validation results. If I start another campaign is it likely to have the same outcome? That missing file sounds important...

One of these is your problem. Restore the original exe file and get the patch file from the validation post, and you should be alright.

get the patch file from the validation post
You did read the important information sticky, right? That's where you find the validation post.
