View Full Version : How to Deal with Treason and Sedition?

Basically I've just recently downloaded EB and started a campaign with Baktria. (Absolutely fantastic mod btw...).

After about 10-15 years almost half my characters have developed either the 'seditious' trait or the 'treasonous' trait. The trait description recommends public execution, which I didn't think was possible.

In a nutshell I want to know what options I have for removing some of said traitors. In MTW, I'd assassinate them, but I'm assuming using the RTW engine that isn't possible. It is looking increasingly like I'll have to send them one by one on suicide missions, but that doesn't really appeal to me. A way of simming civil strife would be excellent, but probably beyond me - I'm essentially computer illiterate.

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Make an Alexander out of him, always charging first in the hottest fights...

I usually RP generals with those traits as "exiled". "Here you treacherous bastard, take this army, get out of my sight and don't come back, have fun sacking your way toward your new home". I Keep them out of "homeland" or "expansion" territories to simulate "exile", and don't let them have any new factional troops in their armies. When exiling the character, I take away any elites and give them to a loyal general.

Thanks for the quick replies. I like the idea of exile...

The worst one actually has a 'seditious' son, maybe the family shall be exiled...

I may try this...

Thanks again.

I do not see why a seditious and treasonous general is a problem. About a third of my best generals have the Disloyal trait and roughly half of them have the "venal", "seditious" or some other level of this trait. So far I had not encountered any problems, such as having those generals bribed, or anything like that. Unless you are playing VH on campaign difficulty, or when the AI goes bribe-happy, you will rarely see enemy factions bribe any of your armies or cities. What I have also noticed is that when a general is successful and wins a lot of battles, the seditious/treasonous trait goes away.

Are you doing the exile because you are afraid the AI will bribe them or is the exile strictly for roleplaying purposes?

For me it's RP, game-wise, I only have a bribery problem when I'm fighting a strong Ptolemy.

i don't realy care how loyal most of my generals, are. in fact most AI nations don't have enouth money to brbe them if they want to keep there production running :D(exept for those that i'm allied with, and the Casse^^) tho i prefer to give more important roles to more loyal Genarals(exept for the faction leader ^^).

in fact my best genral has a heck lot of bribe-cost-decreacement-traits but also everything that increaces the Looting he indeed is a very unpleasant person to be arround^^.

I've had one general with the treasonous trait be bribed but the Seleucids in one of my Bactrian campaigns. Took the whole dang army with him, although it was fun to put him down.

if u click on a fm in a settlement and tell him to leave the settlement, then press the stop/backspace button as he is leaving the settlement, he will disappear and it will say he died peacefully

This has happened to me a few times in North Africa during my Qarthadast campaign. I believe it was reproducable.

NaH, they usually either stop a step outside the settlement or just go back inside.

Thanks for all replies...

@ Aemilius: Its essentially for role-playing purposes, I don't enjoy having a whole bunch of generals that are plotting treason, if they don't have the guts to actually do anything...

So far exile sounds like the best RP possibility, but I may try one of the other options for removing special cases.

Not family members. Only agents.

@ Celtic Punk:

That would be my ideal solution, but I'm unsure as to how to go about it. I could get the treasonous generals to march on Baktra and 'seize' it. But it would be pretty bloodless. Nobody would die...

For killing them, you have to use a console command. Type: kill_character "character name" and it will do the trick (hopefully).

Actually, you'd have to run a script for that. Alas.

Seriously? Darn, I thought you could do it...

Basically when you rp a civil war, youll decide who is on who's side, and when on the campaign map they touch eachothers tile you have a custom battle with the same conditions. (you can use the editor to even the get the same tile IIRC) If the general dies, disband his troops and kill him in console, or RP his capture and exile, escape, ect. routed units are disbanded.

If you need to kill off family members, bunch them all together, remove any units, and teleport them to Britain or some other remote island that doesn't have a "land bridge" to the continent. Then just keep attacking people at random until they lose a battle. They will all die because there's no way to retreat back to friendly territory.
