So, you spent last night out with the boys, drinking, singing, and laughing, solving all the world's problems (although, this morning, those solutions escape you).

Now your head is a little ache-y, and your mouth is a desert. Do you eat? If so, what? Or does the mere thought of food make you blanch?

For me: Huevos Rancheros, over-easy, with Tobasco sauce. How about you?

Orange juice, bacon and eggs, bread and I'm ready to start all over again :smash:

Marmite on toast.

The toast acts to absorb toxins, while the Marmite replenishes all the nutrients your body is lacking after a heavy night. (Or so some bloke down the pub explained to me (at length), so it must be true).

It does work though.

Never have one, no matter how drunk I have been. A bit slower that is all, nothing a cup of coffee can't fix. Same breakfast as always, tomatoes with balsimico-vinigar and olive oil, glass of fresh orange juice, and a sandwich at the trainstation if it's a workday.

Just drink lots and lots of water before bed- as much as you can stand. Then get a decent amount of sleep and you'll be fine.

Processing alcohol uses a lot of water, so load up before you go to sleep and let your liver do its thing.

Gatorade. With scrambled eggs if my stomach is relatively steady.

When I was a drinking man I took my drinking seriously, so the morning after drinking I'd usually have gatorade mixed with vodka. Sometimes I'd eat salty cashews with it, since they seemed to stabilize my stomach decently. I didn't often have hangovers though, either because I was young or because I often drank enough to cause me to puke before I went to sleep. In fact I'd have to say in my experience the number 1 hangover cure is to throw up before bed.

Not that I recommend it, just that it really does work.

I nearly always make sure to drink a lot of water before passing out going to bed. Then if I wake up early enough (and my stomach can stand it), I have some eggs, bacon, and toast if I'm hungry enough. If it's late enough in the day for lunch, I go grab a nice greasy burger somewhere. ~:)

Chips. Not those skinny things that Europeans call frites, and Americans call fries, but thick, chunky chipped potatoes. Especially good if they're not classically fluffy inside, but meaty slabs of potato steamed inside a crispy skin. Makes me feel alive.

Fried eggs, but leave them 'snotty' and hairy bacon. You know the type, it's got the ink from the tattoo and it hasn't been shaved properly.

It's a kill or cure.

Vegemite on toast - it is nice and dry and not hard to get down. However, bacon sandwhichs are always good as well if you want something a bit more substantial.

I don't always get a hangover, but when I go too far....dear god is my life hell in the morning. I've had 24 hour hangovers - barely eating at dinner time.

Just drink a lot of water and try to control yourself...

So, so far, orgah's consume animal fat and water, to move on to the next day (with starches taking up second place). Interesting.

Once upon a time, I used to take lots of aspirin and decongestant (Excedrin & Dristan) before falling asleep, to mitigate the physical effects of alcohol. Until I read a few studies about the effects of those substances on livers and pancreas' - the very organs I needed to process the evil drink.

So now, after the drinking phase is done, I carb-up and slowly re-introduce protein (via 'snotty' eggs, as IA so colourfully put it) in the huevos rancheros dish. I don't understand why Tobasco seems to add to the experience - I can only guess it's a psychological reminder of the previous excesses. Or maybe to reawaken my dead tastebuds.

Thanks for your suggestions, all. I gotta try that Marmite stuff one day. It sounds like Spam on steroids. And appears to be good for everything from nutrition to brick-mortar.

A normal hangover I usually do the bacon and eggs trick most here have described. If it's from too much wine or spirits and have the other kind of hang over that gives you a slight but lingering nausea the next day, then the remedy is macaroni n cheese with a healthy punch of salt and cracked pepper and a few drops of Habanero Tabasco sauce.

Alot of people make the aspirin or tylenol mistake before they pass out. The toxicity issue is usually overblown with this concoction, but it's counter productive nevertheless. The effort your liver spends breaking down the acetaminophen will slow down the speed your liver breaks down the alcohol. Stick with the tylenol in the morning if you're having the headache or bodyache type hangovers.

Cheese omlet & homefries with lots of ketchup and tabasco sauce. Then two big glasses of water before bed.

Water.

And usually something light if my stomach feels concerned anyway.
Like yogurt, I think toast would do, too but the last time I had a hangover I didn't have my toaster yet.

Water...and then something small and light to convince my stomach that it's hungry not nauseous. I'll have my real meal an hour or so later, doesn't matter what.

Usually a lot of water, some the night before and then loads in the morning, lemonade is quite nice as well, refreshing and it feels like it wakes up my tastebuds, when it comes to the food it depends on how bad i am, if its only a little sickness then a full english breakfast soaks it all up, if its a mid range then i may just leave it at a bacon sandwich, anything worse and i end up just drinking water usually till about 6-8pm depending on severity and what time i got up

Vegimite/marmite any other type of mite is some disgusting yeast extract thing! it has such a horrible foul taste... but some people seem to love it, i would advise trying it without a hangover first, before using it when your stomach's already in a weak state..

A tip for the aspiring hardened drinkers.

Make sure you have a litre of water next to the bed. Saves on getting up in the night.

As for palliatives, yes not a great idea to take them when on a self inflicted illness. Remember kiddies there is no way to quicken the effects if a hangover. The liver can only process so much alcohol each hour.

If you don't like a hangover, there's only one way to stop one. Don't drink so much.

Lots of water first to get the fluid balance right. My favourite meal in hangover is heavily spiced Kebab. Then the secret incredient: Milk. Since im not lactose intolerant, milk helps to stabilize my stomach, while it also gives lot more nutritions and vitamins then water. So first water to kill the thirst, then heavy doze of meat, vegetables and bread with hot sauce, to nourish the body and wake up the taste buds and last milk to stabilize the stomach.

Ofcourse if this wont help, then there is the traditional Finnish treatment otherwise known as sauna, where you sweat all the nasty toxins out before taking more healthy stuff in, but i would not suggest that treatment to anyone with high blood pressure or heart condition and many doctors might disagree a lot with that method in any case. But maybe its more like a treatment based on philosophy: "What does not kill you, makes you stronger".~;)

Heresy! Marmite is an absolute good and a cure for all ills. It is best eaten directly from the jar, with a tablespoon.

Mmm, I guess that's the best hangover cure: Shame. Though I guess it's not so much a cure as a vaccine.
