View Full Version : Will this be finished before Empires?
I'm just wondering, because if EB2 isnt finished before Empires I probaby wont download it because ill be too busy playing Empires :)
No, it won't be finished before Empires. But we don't expect to compete with them. I have no doubt that you will come crawling back to EBII when Empires has run its time.

How right you are. I got M2TW three weeks ago, played it for exactly a week, got frustrated and went back to good old EB, which I am still playing. I guess the only good thing that will come out of M2TW is the fact that I will be able to play EB II using it.

Meh, sliced bread is way overhyped. Needs nerfing.
I think you should use a long time to make eb 2, and wait untill empires has run its time. So that people are getting really excsited and really looking forvard to it right before you release it. Instead of being like "we have always been here while you played empire". If you use a long time to make it, it will be better too. Maybe the capital cities project.

I doubt they´ll really time the release for best commercial effect, especially seeing as it´s not commercial. When it´s done, it´s done. And then they´ll hold on to it for themselves for 3 years just to piss us off.

Not to worry, I'm sure Fallout 3 has filled that role already :juggle:. Actually, I was thinking I was going to play M2TW in all my free time for months before it came out, but I couldn't stomach more than a week of it and quickly returned to EB. Perhaps Empire will be different.

Fable 1 was the greatest disappointment I've ever gotten from playing a video game. It was supposed to be one of the greatest, openended games ever made. It turned out to be mediocre. It wasn't that bad, but when you are expecting great and you get normal, it is worse than when you expect normal and get crap.
I'm planning on getting Fallout 3 but will wait a while. I have my expectations so low for it (after the disappointment of TES4) that I may end up being pleasantly surprised.
I've been very wary about my expectations for Fallout3. I absolutely loved the two prequels, and I was concerned that it would be impossible to create anything like it in the TES engine. Which is true, it's not like those games. However, the atmosphere is there, and it's a good game in it's own right, as far as I've come in a couple of hours at least. The character creation is very nice and really helps you get in the right mood. That is, me. Perhaps not you. It's not Oblivion. Then again, I loved Oblivion too, especially with Oscuro's mod.
I have a question for the modders: Is the campaign/ battlefield AI hardcoded in MTW? If it isn't, will you try and improve it? Because everybody says that the MTW2 AI is pretty bad.
No. Yes. But it's not the first area we will focus on, as obviously we need the stats system set up first and some units to test with.

I played MTWII a lot... but it missed somethings to be as much enjoyable as RTW was when it eas launched... I do not know exactly what!!! Surely it is a bit flat compared to the imersiveness of many deep mods as Broken Crescent, EB, Iberian Total War, etc.

I'm a bit sad that EBII will not be a mod for ETW. I know the team has already expressed its opinion about this. But nevertheless I don't see so many advantages of M2TW over RTW. And EBI is a lot better than RTW and M2TW. The only flaw is the bad diplomacy AI. If this could not be corrected with M2TW (and it cannot I think) the efforts are in vain imho. Of course, if Bovi is right in his opinion about ETW AI, nothing matters... :laugh4:
Yeah, the tech-development, naval warfare, diplomacy without diplomats, unit recruitment, province management and all those other features in ETW seem vital for simulating the world of the Diadochi and the Punic Wars. Kind of makes you wish that the EB team would give MTW2 a pass. Of course, ETW engine isn't going anywhere, but I'm just worried about the increasing workload of the team. Undoubtedly many team members would like to see EBIII in the future, but hopefully they'll keep their goals safe and realistic. It's better to have no EBIII at all, than have someone dying for it. I just hope that at least models and textures are easily portable from MTW2 to ETW...
*END RANT*
Edit: Please note that I am ignorant to the development status of EBII as I live in a cave. Also I won't be getting anything from discussing MTW2 or ETW, as neither will work on my PC. My computer is basically made of flint.

I can agree with that. M2TW is just terrible. I've only tried two mods so far, but they don't seem to have been able to fix the terrible way units consistently ignore your orders or the ever stupid diplomacy AI. In ETW, not only are your units responsive again the diplomacy AI is reasonable. Everything has been streamlined, but not dumbed down, and I think the EB team could do some really special things with the new features.

Will EB2 be released before the ETW expansion is announced?
After playing some days ETW I have mixed feelings. In the end I think it seems still to be a wise decision of the EB team to stay with M2TW. The diplomacy in ETW is clearly a great improvement compared to older TW games, it is mostly very nice. I have experienced incredible things like other nations rationally asking for peace or accepting peace in certain situations. And an ally is an ally. The other features are not so revolutionary or interesting however. I already miss the abundance of diffferent units in EB and have blasphemic thoughts better to play further my new Lusotannan campaign instead of ETW. Mmmhh...

The AI in M2TW is moddable to a certain point.
Whoever is able to understand german should give a try these mods:
Who's not willing to play a german mod (Regnum Coelis or Reconquista to mention only 2 of them) can try Deus Lo Vult for example (the extreme turn lag should not be a problem to people addicted to EB :laugh4: ). Or Das Heilige Römische Reich 0.7.
All these mods have a much more reasonable AI.
The AI isn't that quick at accepting any truces but an alliance lasts a lot longer than in any RTW game/M2TW vanilla.
I'm sure we will see an EBII diplomacy that is at least as good as the AI of the above mentioned mods.
