Hi guys

I just bought the game and am happily playing La Serenissima. This is only slightly curbed by the fact that I cannot figurte out how to get a unit onto a ship. I have tried the "control every piece of Sea in between" thing but that doesn't seem to work either. Feeling slightly daft here :( What am i missing? I cannot rightclick a unit onto a fleet and if I tell it to go across a piece of water that i control I tells me "no can do" :(

any help appreciated.

I think you might be posting in the wrong area, do you mean Medievel: Total War, where the sea is divided into regions?

If so, I cant help you, I have never managed to get units over the sea myself.

In M2TW, have the ship next to land, select the army and right-click on the ship. They will go into it if they are close enough.

In MTW1, you need to have a ship in each of the sea areas between the starting province and the destination. If there are no enemy ships in any of these sea areas, and you have a port building in your destination, you select the units you want to move and drag them to the destination province.

In MTWI, you don't need a Port in the destination province - only in the one you wish to disembark your troops from. Beyond that, yes, every sea region between your province and the enemy one needs to have at least one of your ships in, and not a single enemy vessel. Even if the war is still to begin, their ships will effectively prevent you from launching a naval invasion, so they must be destroyed first. If the war has already begun, you need to keep those sea lanes clear in advance of your naval invasion. Of course, you will need a Port in the target province if you wish to abandon it at any point, such as in the case of defeat (usually you have to build one - or re-build because they tend to be destroyed if there is already one). Also be careful about using your faction leader (King, Khalifah, Grand Prince, etc) in these cases, because there's the nasty cut-off effect as your leader, when in a province that is not connected to the rest of your empire and is without a Port, is considered cut-off from the rest of your empire. This damages loyalty of both your generals and provinces. It isn't that much of an issue if you don't have much of an empire, but later in the game, it can be one heck of a mistake to make. Oh, before I finish - you don't actually board units on to the boats if this is about MTWI, you will be able to drag and drop your army (or armies) right on top of the province you wish to attack. Also, Agents cannot do the same thing - they can only travel over land or from one province with a Port to another province with a Port.

Hope I was of some help. :beam:
