View Full Version : How do I get my reinforcements not AI controlled?
I have two generals in a town that is being sieged, and I have a big army that instigates a battle with the siegers. It asks me on the pre-battle screen if I want to allow the two generals to be controller by the AI, and I say no, but they are still AI controlled. When I tell them to be AI controlled, they are as well.
This is really annoying because I have a large line of phalanxes (phalanges?) who slowly box in their horse archers without taking too much damage, but the two generals prefer to just run straight at them and die in about 3 seconds.
I'm playing as Baktria on VH/M and I have captured all of the eastern territories of the Ache Seleukia, but stupid Pahlava betrayed me. I'm 35-0 in battles and I don't want to lose one now!
Its not an EB bug, but a R:TW one. There is no fix, but this topic (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?p=1005619#post1005619) contains a work-around.

After taking a look at the enemy's forces by clicking on the portraits / banners, uncheck the controlled-by-AI box, check it again and uncheck it finally. It's a kind of RTW bug.

yeah, but when you have 2 fullstacks you can't control them anyway. The reinforcement will just wait outside the red line, and if one of your units should rout and leave 1 box free, then 1 unit of the reinforcement will enter the battlefield....

That's really annoying indeed. I remember in my Romani campaign when I was fighting huge Ptolemaoi empire I had 2 full stacks and they've brought their 2 stacks full of Pezhetairoi and their elite phalanxes. I couldn't win that with just 1 stack so had to give control of another 1 to the AI and in a stupid way the AI lost nearly all of it. The AI general with crappy cavalry bodyguards charged head on into the elite phalanx formation and died in seconds. But at least I've won the battle.

you still won, even though an AI general lead your reinforcement-fullstack army against 2 fullstacks of ptolemy with elite units (i know them well from my romanii campaign). Respect mate!

i do that - if you have qualms over AI control for your reinforcements, click on the box about 10 times, obviously leaving it on the option you want. that works for me.

1. my starting troops could have dealt with the remainings(enemy general dead, killed 50%)
2. almost no units that need micro(spearmen against spearmen)
3. I am a very pacient man^^
