(Of course, the title doesn't apply to RL)

It is pleasant, when the wind and the waves are dashing about, to watch from the shore the stuggles of another.

Whoever said this took the words right out of my mouth. (even though he was born a couple thousand years b4 me). In my campaign, (Me=SPQR), when relations between me and carthage eventually began breaking down, I hired on the Lusotanan to help me out. A good bit of Carthage's bank comes out of its spanish holdings, so I started paying the Lusotanan 5000 minae in advance for for every city they captured. They were dirt poor, and therefore accepted readily. A few years later, Carthage had lost all its holdings in Spain (by which time we were no longer allies), and they were now dirt poor, and Lusotana was rolling in cash. Unfortunately for me, Carthage somehow got the same idea and allied with Epeiros. Unfortunately for Epeiros, Carthage doesn't pay as well as good old SPQR, and their war machine quickly broke down. In the end Carthage was easy pickings.:skull:

Never underestimate the power of (and fun of just sitting and watching your rivals empire fall apart) of Diplomacy:devilish::laugh4:!!!

I should really do that more often. Anyone else wanna share?

They sure are. I sent a couple of spies into the Sauromatae town of Gawjam-Bastarnoz and triggered a war between them and the Sweboz, to whom the town rebelled. The Sweboz are the most powerful faction in my current Romani campaign. (They also happen to be the only faction, with the exception of Saka Rauka, who are not at war with me). The Sweboz have almost endless stacks of troops, even more than the gargantuan Seleukids (!) - whom I pushed back to the Far East by now. However, with the two full stacks of Sauromatae horsemen outside the town of Gawjam-Bastarnoz and more coming from the East, the Sweboz are up for some "balancing". *insert evil laugh*

I enjoy them too and it's a shame it's so difficult to fire one up. Currently 5 spies are sitting in Vesontio (Romani) since a few turns. The garrison is tiny, the palace is gallic and the population is really big. The public order is 40% and there is absolutely no sign of rebellion. :smg:

I get gipped if i pay someone to help me in a war let alone a proxy war. They take the money and stab me in the flippin' back!

you should see what my "incentitives"for seleukids got them to do... they obliterated pontos, abolished pahlava, waged war straight to xiyu and banished baktrians to india...ptolemaio? stuck in middle of desert with alexandria lost...makedonia?slowly dieing to roman power in the 2nd macedonian war...koinon?up north ni bosphorus and epirote? at pergamon :)
sometimes...money can do much to inspire AI lolz

Yeah, I basically like to do that kind of things. I end up meddling with everyone's affairs in the end by sending diplomats everywhere. In the west, I switch from giving money to the Romani and Karthadastim. In Gallia, I fund either of the two Gallic factions when I see one has gotten the upper hand and in the east, I basically fund everyone who's against the AS.

Does giving a faction a high tribute like that actually do anything to make them attack another faction more than if you didn't give them anything? Other than an initial amount to accept the deal in the first place of course.

Well KH is almost constantly attacked by Makedonia to the brink of being pushed out of greece but i noticed when i gave them financial aid they recruited like crazy and managed to push back Makedonia even gaining athens, although makedonia re-took the city KH expanded very well in Asia minor.

Yep, I almost always make a point of subsidizing the Saba to annoy the Ptolemies, usually with both cash and land.
