View Full Version : No Regional Units in Roman Gaul
Having my first run at EB1.1 and as Romani I cant seem to build any regional units (like levy spearmen) in Gaul even with L3 Regional Barracks?
Has something gone wrong or is this WAD?

What government building are you using? did you activate the script everytime you loaded your campaign up?
Yeah I'm having the same problem too I've got type 4 goverment and always activate the script
Do we have to wait for the polybian reforms before we can recruite celts?

You just need to build a high enough Regional MIC with the right government. If you have a Type1 or Type2, you may not get any Gauls...

hmm, I don't think we need that high lvled regional MIC to build "levy" spearmen... =/

Yeah, I thought Lugoae was on L2 Regional MIC for the Romans.
And the Romans only have one Regional MIC, it is not effected by reforms in any way.

I thought in 1.1 it was altered so Romans get nothing before L3 regional barracks?

Since we are talking about Roman barracks then I have a question. Why can't I build Roman factional barracks in Ariminum and Segesta although I should be able to do that? I mean, I haven't built any units in Ariminum because I can't build any barracks there(no regional or factional)! Also, Segesta
In v1.0 I was able to do that but not in v1.1!

Do you have a Type1 government in those towns? IIRC, you need a Type1 government in towns you want to recruit Romani factional units in before the Marian reforms.

In 1.1 the Romani need at least a level 3 MIC to recruit any regional units in Gaul.

Beg pardon? You should ALWAYS be able to build the regional MIC. In Segesta even if you build a level 1 Gov't (thus restricting you to a L2 regional MIC) you still will get a Gaemille Ligurae. For any of the Gallic Celt territories (France, N Italy), you won't get anything in less than a L3 Regional MIC. The Regional MIC is the brownish-colored recruitment building called "Conscription by Local Militia" or somesuch for the Romani. You can't build Factional MICs in the non-starting provinces until the Polybian Reforms, as is indicated in the FAQ (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=84854), though I thought Segesta was the exception. And as MAA said, anything less than type 1 gov't will not let you recruit Factional MIC before the Marian reforms.
By and large the regional recruitment for the Romans in Gaul is pretty crappy unless you install an allied gov't, which gives all its goodies at the L5 regional MIC (Brihentin, Neitos, Generals). The Alpine territories right above you and bordering the likely Sweboz expansion give a good set of units like Alpine Shortswordsmen, Alpine Phalanx, Raetic Axemen, etc. Of course, head east towards the Getic area and the Celtic territories have a different yield, including the Celtic Axemen, Scordisci Elite Infantry, Noricene Spearmen, and eventually the Thracian units.
Anyways, enough rambling....

The problem is that I can't BUILD those MIC's not that I can't recruit from there. If I would be able to build those MIC's then everything would be OK but I can't.
Iirc, then in another game the Romans could build their barracks in Ariminum but somehow I can't and I haven't changed the Type1 government that was there in the beginning.

Umm, crappy install? No script activated? I have no idea?:juggle2:
With type I, you will not be able to create a sufficiently high regional MIC. ALWAYS destroy governments in settlements you conquer.

Camillian era still?
Hi all,
Since playing as Rome you are unable to recruit any Celtic levy units till a level 3 barracks, is there a historical backing behind this?
Such has it took a great deal of colonization of Celtic areas before any were recruited into Romani armies as auxilia?

The historical backing is that without it AI controlled Rome recruits unrealistic numbers of Celtic troops.

Yes, it's still Camillan era. But it shouldn't matter. I should be able to build factional MIC's in Segesta and Ariminum but I can't!

Have you destroyed the non-roman government building (in case there was any)? Have you built your own military occupation and after that, your own government?
IIRC, Ariminum starts without even military occupation in 1.1. so you can decide what government you can build there. If it doesn't work this way, something is probably wrong with your install.
