View Full Version : Strat Map Questions

Hehe, its me again, with more questions about the strategic map:

1. What are the criteria for being the "Most Advanced Faction"? I am playing as the Romani currently with 113 settlements and about 10 of my large and huge cities have practically all of the buildings available already built (don’t have money to upgrade the rest – I have been blitzkrieging across the map since the beginning of the campaign) and yet Baktria, with its two territories (they haven't done anything in the entire campaign except conquering one Indian settlement) keeps alternating with me as the “Most Advanced Faction”. Normally, I am the most advanced faction for 1-3 turns, then suddenly Baktria is most advanced and then all of this repeats. It has been like this for the past 15 years.

2. Why can I not train troops while I am besieged? I though I remember training units in vanilla RTW while my settlement was besieged. I am not sure that particular memory is correct though. I also don’t think EB could have modded that as not being able to train soldiers while besieged seems like a hardcoded thing to me.

3. Has the EB team readjusted the Devastation and Pillaging healing rate? I remember it took ages for Devastation to heal in RTW, while in EB it takes three to five years (12-20 turns) for the countryside to heal, at the most. It seemed to me that it vanilla RTW it has taken longer.

4. Can someone please tell me exactly how to remove a trait via console, if that is possible of course? Assuming that I am playing as the Romani, if that makes any difference.

One thing I have definitely observed though, was the fact that in EB, the pillage and devastation is not as significant as in vanilla. I have had huge armies blacken large areas of ground on the strat map and in the city details scroll it shows something like only -20 mnai income penalty. Even in the territories that have Large and Small Cities, the devastation, at its worst is no higher than -100 mnai from a single full-stack enemy army sitting for more than three turns. Am I right on this; another words, is the amount of devastation inflicted truly decreased in EB?

I have tried looking for answers to these questions by searching the forum, but at no avail.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Is this the best place to post these questions, BTW?

In my give_trait thread you posted in, me and Blue Death have reported that to remove a trait just add either 0 or -1 to the end of the trait with a space in between. Ex: ....Fertile -1 or .....Fertile 0. Try both and reply back if any of them work or not.

1- I'm not sure what all is included in "most advanced faction" but I think it is a combo of several factors.

2- This is hardcoded. You can't train units in a besieged town, not in RTW, EB or any mod.

3- This is hardcoded. You can't change pillage rates or recover rates.

4- Removing a trait works the same way as adding a trait, you just use -1 instead of 1.

I think the average number and level of buildings in your settlements decides the "most advanced faction". It could be the total number of buildings though, or the max developed city.

Money may be included, as the Romanii and most advanced faction I'll often dump large anounts of cash on the Saba, for instance. Next move they will be the most advanced, though this could be because the AI can build in one move and they now have the cash for a lot of buildings.

I have the impression that the most advanced faction depends on the amount of money spend for buildings currently under construction, perhaps modified by a factor for the number of provinces.

The odd thing is that the two Baktrian settlements are only Large Towns. I have something like 30 small, large and huge cities. As I have said, ten of the large and huge cities have all of the available buildings already built. :inquisitive: Seems like building or having the most advanced buildings is not the criteria for the most advanced faction. Also, Baktria is quite poor. Saba is the richest faction in my current campaign I am talking about. The Sweboz have the strongest military after me. AS follows them. So it can't be money, military, or the combination of both. :inquisitive:

I think the most advanced title goes to the faction who has the largest percentage of high-ranked buildings.

What I mean, is that although you have 10 extremely advanced cities, you have ten out of forty cities.

Baktria (or whoever you were mentioning, I apologize) may have two cities, but perhaps they're extremely advanced also, meaning they have two out of two cities extremely advanced. But that wouldn't explain why you're alternating with them. That's just my hypothesis.

I always assumed that the most advanced went to whoever had the highest overall score, which you could see in those charts that also compare you in separate categories such as population, wealth and military strength.
