That is really cool.
We can now see if the Oracle was right :beam:.

Did any of you actually read the article? It sounds like it's gonna be ugly as sin.

Not to mention a waste of money. Mind you, the original was ugly as sin as well, so I understand.
We can now see if the Oracle was right .I know the Oracle forbade the rebuilding but this sounds like there was a prediction related to it?

Seems like something I would do, if I had the power to do so.:2thumbsup:
Anyways, its great news, I hope that the other ancient wonders, and other wonders and important building will be rebuild/renewed to show their former glory!

well, If you build it against her own command/advice, then it must have been something that forbode ill:yes:
but yeah, that's me 2cents about Bovi's post.

Or, unhappy.
You're right...Helios may take huge displeasure in seeing a false idol of him standing at Rodos again. There is no need for it really, you can look up into the sky see/worship him everyday anyway.

Something tells me the Oracle is right... If they build it perhaps its just another sign of the impending Apocalypse. 2012 my friends. I'm stocking up on ammo, non-perishables, and gear.

Dont worry, the world will end in the year 2000. The cause will be something called Y2K.
About the Colossus, there is any other article available?

Yeah, I saw something like that here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oHg5SJYRHA0)
Both the I Ching and the Mayan Calendar predict that the world will end on December 21, 2012.
There's also now a program that collects info from across the Internet to predict the future. So far it's been astonishingly accurate. I forget its name, though.

mhhh, erich von dänicken write alot about it - but nobody knows exactly!
they didn´t even know if the startdate was right, or when the calender ends: could he start again...
a lot of "If" and "Could"

Using the internet as a source, I'd be astonished if it even managed to predict the past with any kind of accuracy.

Ouch.

I could be wrong about this, but didn't the Mayan calender simply end at December 21, 2012? Nothing to do with the future, just an presumably unintended result of their time-measurement system (similar to computers of the past century being unable to go beyond 1999).

I just read a book 1491, America Before Columbus. Among many other things it discusses the various mayan calendars. the long count that 'ends' in 2012 is cyclical and does not in fact presage the ned of hte world.
What any of this has to do with the new Colossus of Rhodes, I dunno. We have a house in Cyprus, so when the thing is built we'll have to pop over and take a look.

No because, see, that way conspiracy and apocalypse followers would be really sad, and that can't happen.

its not just that, theres been a bunch of huge disasters around the world, one of Nostradamus' predictions was an Apocalypse around this time (but he made millions of inaccurate predictions, and even more completely wrong). Plus according to the acceleration of the development of our consciousness, we will be entering a new stage soon. We have a galactic consciousness at the moment. We've mapped our entire galaxy. Whats next? if there is a new stage.
what does this have to do with the Colossus? The oracle on Rhodos forbade the reconstruction of the Colossus, because a disaster would happen if it was ever reconstructed or re-erected.

We can now see if the Oracle was right :beam: .
Heh heh. Good one.
And like its ancient namesake, the modern-day wonder will be dedicated to celebrating peace and built, at least in part, out of melted-down weapons from around the world.
:inquisitive: How was the first Colossus dedicated to peace? I got the impression that, having beaten back the Macedonian invaders, the Rhodians build their wonder out of Macedonian arms simply to emphasize their victory and mock their defeated enemy...

yeah thats the impression I got as well. I think it was dedicated to that defiantly. These clowns are just saying that because they want to feel special. I have a special place in my heart reserved for these kinds of clowns >:/
as for the colossus, i don't really care if it is built or not. If it happens, it happens. the builders will pay the price (literally; how expensive is that thing anyway?)
if you want my 2cents about the 2012 deal, go ahead and open the spoiler.
and we can't say it will end (or not end) in 2012. the Maya calender's current ba'aktun cycle (known as the long count) indeed only ends in 2012, without an apocalypse. It does predict that it will be a time of fundamental change. I in fact suspect that people say its the end because traditional astrology seems to back up by that point (again, as pointed out here, like computers with 1999). Its also the time of some sort of alignment, god knows what, that I don't give a damn about.
Its like those who were predicting the world will end in 2000, or that the rapture would come in 1844....
as for the computer program: as Penn pointed out quite correctly, if they can really predict the future, (they did "predict" 9/11), then why was no one told about it until after the prediction? and even if they knew that it would happen for sure due to the computer, wouldn't the people be behaving in the pinnacle of evil, because by not telling they condemned 3000 to their deaths, knowing they would die?
lastly, as for the predictions that did come true: you know what they have in common? they never set a specific time for it happening, only an approximation.
so ends me diatribe.
