View Full Version : EB Not Running Well

I'll explain the situation in as much detail as possible, because I'm perplexed.

My Radeon 9800 crapped out on me and wouldn't run ANY games at all. Prior to this, EB ran beautifully. So I went and bought a Radeon 2400HD Pro 512mb. Now all my games run again, and most run slightly better. Except EB. Here's the problem:

Technically, it runs fine. But on both the campaign map and the battle map, the mouse isn't responsive. You know, when I move it, it takes a second to actually move. This is really the only problem that I can see (other than the unit cards now look sort of pixelated in the custom battle selections and the battle map - but I can live with that). I don't get it. I've never had this problem before. I've tried killing all sort of random crap in the Task Manager, but it hasn't changed anything.

I'm no computer whiz, so I'm asking for help. EB is updated completely; it worked fine before.

Running Pentium IV 3.20 GHz, 2 GB RAM, Windows XP.

Any help you folks can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried to update your video drivers? If so, have you tried to downgrade them? There is a "safe" driver version listed in the validation post, the one I used at the time and which worked fine.

Also, I seem to recall having this problem until I got new drivers for my dual-core CPU. Perhaps you should look into that as well.

Bovi,

Many thanks. I will give that a try and let you know.

Thanks again.

As far as I can tell, my drivers are the most recent available. I don't really know, since ATI doesn't host ATI Radeon 2400 AGP drivers, only for the PCIe version.

This is really strange to me, because I never had a problem with the inferior 9800 card I had, but now with a newer card (which has four times the onboard memory) EB and other games run, but the mouse seems to lag. Again, no problems before, and the mouse is fine out of games.

And now, out of the blue, my fonts look odd. Not really crappy, but just odd. I can't figure that problem out either.

Anyway, thanks for the help.

You should probably ask for help with the manufacturer's support. You might find a relevant workaround with internet search too, if you choose the right terms.

One advice: when running RTW, use Nvidia. I never had an ATI videocard but years of running RTW with Nvidia cards never brought me problems, except with one of my cards that was clearly hosed.

Thanks dudes.

To address the Nvidia comment, I've had my ATI Radeon 9800 for five years (before the fan died a week and a half ago) and not once have I had any problems running any games, so I'm not against ATI, per se. That's why I'm perplexed. I'd really just like to get a new computer...
