View Full Version : EB 1.2 released
Greetings Europa Barbarorum fans!
https://img528.imageshack.us/img528/6500/12announcementsy3.jpg
Today, we have a very special announcement for you. The release of a patch for our mod, Europa Barbarorum, for the Rome Total War engine: EB 1.2!
https://img115.imageshack.us/img115/1120/dividerp2gz4.png
The mod has advanced a very long way from our first beta: EB 0.7.2, more than 2 years from now (here`s the announcement) (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=58619). In retrospective, we can say that we have advanced a very long way, always struggling to create a representation of the ancient world as accurate as it can be, considering the RTW engine's possibilities and limitations.
There are not many major changes in this version. Likewise, there are no new units. Work for EB 2 has already been going on for months, and also all of our modelers and skinners are focused on pumping out EB2 units. The entire team will now focus on our newer version for M2TW. Nevertheless, we will not stop supporting EB1, and there will in all likelihood be some other goodies in the near future too. :eyebrows:
Rather, the scope of this version focuses primarily on bugfixes, among them the total redesign of the Client Ruler system. We also have a new punic voicemod, a new Epeiros intro by Stupac, and the previously released historical battles are also part of this release.
We thank our dedicated (and now almost professional!) betatesters: mcantu, Hax, Thaatu, Ice, Obelics. Their help was absolutely essential in clearing bugs with the Client Ruler system. Special thanks to I Am Here Now, who spotted an unsuspected quantity of spelling mistakes in our descriptions, most of which are now fixed.
We also want to give special thanks to Ken Eckman and Don Johnson, who helped decisively with the recording of our brand new punic voicemod :music:. The Punic voicemod was developed by team effort between Kikosemmek and Shigawire. Shigawire provided the grammar and dictionary books, Kikosemmek did the translations and reconstructions. Abou provided the voice acting talent. Shigawire and Redmeth provided the technical implementation. Special thanks goes to Dr. Charles Krahmalkov for having written the books we used, and for some very informative emails.
We also thank to all the people that have pointed out various bugs and errors in our previous builds. Without their dedicated feedback, we wouldn't have come this far with our mod. A big thanks to you, and we wish you all a very happy play.

Download
A complete list of mirrors can be found on our website's Download section (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/downloads_mod.html). We strongly recommend people to use BitTorrent to download EB to conserve bandwidth, but also as torrent provides better transfer speeds once a couple of people have downloaded part of it. Please consider seeding EB after downloading unless you pay per amount of traffic. Don`t be a leech!
More mirrors will be added when they are available.

Installation
First make sure you have a clean RTW 1.5 installation on your computer where you have installed EB 1.1, with no submods. This is to make absolutely certain old files or directories won't cause problems for the EB installation. Any official fixes that you have installed does not count as submods.
You should already have a clean 1.5 RTW if you followed the installation guide for 1.1, so even if you have installed submods it should be a simple matter of installing EB 1.1 into a copy of that one. If you don't have this and need to install RTW 1.5 again, you should now make a copy of that clean 1.5 RTW so you have it available for easily making another installation in the future. Then you won't have to install RTW again, but only EB.
If you have Vista, make sure that you have the RTW installation where you add EB outside of Program Files. You may get problems either immediately, or when it's least convenient, if you still install EB under Program Files.
Double-click the EB installer file and follow the instructions on screen. Make sure that you select the RTW folder, IE the one where RomeTW.exe lies under. Also make sure that you remove the boilerplate text that comes after the folder that you choose.
Refer to the installation guide post (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=80270) for more specific instructions and special cases. Refer to the installation validation (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=93236) post if your EB doesn't work after installing.
As always, new versions of EB are not savegame compatible.
Once you have installed v1.2, install the game fixes, found here: 1.2 Fixes you should try before posting (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=109936). These fixes are a must and may fix game ending bugs. Fixes are updated, so check back later if problems occur.

Changes for 1.2
1.- Client Rulers:
As you may know, the Client Ruler system had various sporadic bugs that included wrong trait assignment, killing of existing family members, clones popping up and more. Those problems couldn`t be fixed with the previous Client Ruler system, so the decision was made to construct an entirely new mechanic for the matter. Now recruitable generals can become either Allied Generals or Client Rulers, depending on whether they stay during their first turn in their city or are moved into the field after being created.
So, if we create a type 4 government, we gain the possibility of recruiting a general:
http://img03.picoodle.com/img/img03/3/10/16/t_1type4m_553c4c2.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/3/10/16/f_1type4m_553c4c2.jpg&srv=img03)
In the example, we are going to recruit a hellenistic client ruler, with a hellenistic bodyguard. There are also other bodyguards, and the type of bodyguards available depends of the culture of the settlement that`s recruiting the general.
http://img02.picoodle.com/img/img02/3/10/16/t_3recruitedm_dde0fcb.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/3/10/16/f_3recruitedm_dde0fcb.jpg&srv=img02)
At this point, we can take two paths:
1º) Make him a Client ruler, to govern allied settlements in your place. This is done by leaving your recruited general into the settlement. Take for example our good fellow Pefkolaos:
http://img34.picoodle.com/img/img34/3/10/16/t_5choicem_bdce406.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/3/10/16/f_5choicem_bdce406.jpg&srv=img34)
We can leave him into the city, so that he becomes a client ruler... subject to our will!
http://img37.picoodle.com/img/img37/3/10/16/t_7ClientRulem_bf068c6.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/3/10/16/f_7ClientRulem_bf068c6.jpg&srv=img37)
But beware of moving him to a non-allied settlement. As before, by taking him out and making him governor of a Type I - II or III governed city, you risk making him into an impostor.
http://img28.picoodle.com/img/img28/3/10/16/t_8Impostorm_df81754.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/3/10/16/f_8Impostorm_df81754.jpg&srv=img28)http://img33.picoodle.com/img/img33/3/10/16/t_8Impostor2m_adcb898.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/3/10/16/f_8Impostor2m_adcb898.jpg&srv=img33)
Also as before, remember not to enter allied settlements with your family members. This is meddling with domestic affairs, which will generate negative traits on the family members that poke their noses on allied poleis. In addition, it will cause unrest, as you make clear that the allied settlement is not really independent, and that the client ruler is a mere puppet of your basileos!
http://img33.picoodle.com/img/img33/3/10/16/t_4interloperm_7e9a3c7.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/3/10/16/f_4interloperm_7e9a3c7.jpg&srv=img33)
2º. Make him a non-family-member General. That`s done by moving him out of the city on the first turn after being recruited. Thus, Neoptolemos will end up commanding client armies rather than governing cities.
http://img32.picoodle.com/img/img32/3/10/16/t_8recrutedgem_525e74b.jpg (http://www.picoodle.com/view.php?img=/3/10/16/f_8recrutedgem_525e74b.jpg&srv=img32)
As with client rulers, allied generals will gain negative effects if they are instated as governors in non-allied provinces.
2.- New Punic voicemod:
Our voicemod translators and actors have performed an enormous feat: to bring you the punic voicemod. An huge amount of work has been put into this feature, which combines the labour of translators, voice actors, coders etc.
3º Additional changes:
* Inclusion of the previously released historical battles of Ipsos, Panion, Magnesia, Raphia, River Areios
* Addition of battle defeat theme.
* A multitude of corrections of Sweboz unit and building names.
* Correction of various proto Balto-Slavic names.
* Various corrections of Romanii trait names.
* Relocation of strategy map docks, to better correspond with historic locations of important ports.
* Fixed spamming of Sweboz reform markers.
* Removed duplicated medininkas mercenary archers.
* Saka can now build blacksmith, mines and receive benefits of high level ports.
* Nomads can now recruit diplomats from higher levels of core building.
* Adjustments of law bonus for nomad core buildings.
* Added many short descriptions for pontos.
* Fixed CTD when choosing fate of a newly conquered settlement (if Lusted's theory is correct).
* Corrected and refined unit placement.
* Added multiplayer component.
* Fixed a bug in the cumulative wins/losses triggers, thanks Tollheit!
* Correction of the UI of the Lonchophoroi.
* Correction of the Mercenary recruitment
* Corrected Lusotannan animosity. Now they want to kick Carthaginean butts, instead of Pontic.
* Fixed celtic reform markers.
* Year In History text changes for 264 and 263 BC.

Stupid question: Save-game compatible? I didn't see anything expressly stated in the post...
No. Added a line about that, thanks.
Edit: There seems to be a problem with the Bittorrent tracker. Sumotracker is down. I'll make a new torrent right away.
Edit2: Now I've added Pirate bay to the trackers. Should work now. You may need to download the torrent file again though.

Does that mean that my allied generals can look, for example, hellenistic even if I am Roman? It would be much better than the Generic "Manius" I get for all my allies.
Unfortunately, we cannot have different portraits from the regular ones of your faction. Also we cannot choose their names, so they will get names from the faction you control. The upside of this is that the campaign map will be a lot faster and we avoid all the instability connected to the client rulers.

Well, good enough. The new system seems to be far better and I hope that clone problem is solved, lost more than one campaign due to it.

Great!!!! It is the injection of fun I needed from my computer!!!!! Congratulations!!!!!
I've tried to use bittorrent to download EB before, but for some reason the average download speed is 3 kb/s. Could there be anything wrong with my computer that limits torrent speed?

Right now there is only one seed. Just wait a little while... once more people have more parts of the file, the speeds should pick up
Yes, the problem is that I'm the lone seeder, with a crappy connection that dies quite often. Two more team members are going to seed soon.

...i came...=0...
now i'll just quietly wait for the usual mod packs i use to come out for this version....
Sorry for being unclear. I meant to say that with previous releases I also achieved a download speed of 3 kb/s, even if I waited a day after release before trying to download it. The current version of Bittorrent also keeps saying there is a problem with the incoming connections.
Wohooo! this is great!
but one thing concernes me: if you are able to train Allied generals with the Allied state gouvernment, what use will level 5 local MICs have outside of tracia(and the other few regions with lv 5 locals)?

I'll be the first to place it under ed2k when I download it. Anyone else to volunteer for it?

That doesn't have to mean much. My torrent client gives me the same message, but I still get decent speeds.
You might want to check out these tips, maybe they will help:

Feel free, I'll put the link up when you post it.
does the client ruler script optimization count as a submod?
A Punic voicemod!? OMG!
I have to download and start a Karthadast campaign ASAP!
does the client ruler script optimization count as a submod?
No. All the files that that changes will be safely overwritten with the new 1.2 files.

Are the changes significant enough to warrant a new campaign?

That's like asking: are the changes significant enough to warrant a full installer + ditto release post + download tracker set up + torrent file + ... ?
It's your call, though.

Well, I'm about 30 years into my campaign. (120 turns)
If the changes are significant - ie. much less crashes, better gameplay, etc, then I'll start a new campaign with 1.2
If the changes are mostly cosmetic, I'll just finish my 1.1 campaign and start a 1.2 campaign with a new faction in the future.

You need a Bit Torrent client to download it. Usually Free Download Manager includes it, so you just click it and accept it to start.
Cool, hopefully will be much more stable than 1.1.
I had to give up on 1.1 & have been filling my TW needs with RTR with no CTDs (except one oddity in the map)

Quick question: I know you edited the EBBS but is it pretty similiar to the previous one? And how much was the campaign_script modified?
Just made a mod and now I fear I have to do extensive work again :bigcry:
Damn. So many campaigns that I need to finish.
I was under the impression that this was coming out next summer. :P
nice!
but my download speed is exactly 0mb/s; how on earth do I get this bittorrent thing to work?

It doesn't seem to be installing period. When I open it up, it still says v 1.1. Then crashes.
Though it could be that I'm installing in the wrong place, too, somehow....
Codyos, you probably did install it the wrong place then. So the installer runs to completion? Where did you install it?

Well, as it was 11.4 MB and is now 6.8 MB... But don't fret, most of the change is the removal of the client ruler script.

See the bittorrent post referenced in the important information sticky. Or wait until it's available elsewhere.

Yes, the installer runs to completion. I ran it to where my EB folder is....but it didn't install there. For some reason, it installed in a file all it's own. Go figure. :wall: I just need to move the files, then it should work.

!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a surprise! I thought 1.2 was going to be released in 6 months or more. Excellent work you guys! My favorite game ever!
Good thing that I have never really gotten into my Kart-Hadast campaign that much. Now I can download 1.2 and have the real experience with the Qarthadastim units actually speaking, and in their native tongue. I'll wait with downloading 1.2 until I finish my Romani campaign, which could take as much as half a year or more. Don't really have time for computer games at all, an EB is the only thing I played since the beginning of last spring. I have only interrupted my EB time to check out BI, which was actually pretty decent and M2TW, which was the worst TW game ever IMHO.

Thanks a lot, although I was hoping for new historical battles.
If it makes you feel better, I've got a rough draft of one in the works and have been deciding on a second one to do. They will both be lesser known battles as I think education is the prime directive of EB. When I can finish them is completely unknown to me as my class schedule is exhaustive and exams are coming up in a few weeks.

We had a mayor and wonderful KH intro all set and ready for this release (really, there`s not enough hyperboles to describe that piece of art). Unofrtunately, it`s music wasn`t ours, and the producers denied us permission to use it in our trailer. The KH footage intro is being remade, since it fitted the music like a glove. We are sure that the new intro will be even better, if that`s possible.
Ah! And for those that have problems downloading EB 1.2 through torrent, here`s a Megaupload link (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/ccount11/click.php?id=51). Bovi will update the 1st post when he`s back.
I`ll upload on filefront tomorrow.
Cheers.

Hi all,
I've been able to install 1.2 and start a new campaign as Carthage. The defeat theme is working, not tried client rulers yet. On the main option screen it has V1.2 in the corner, but when I click on Libyan spear men and Carthage body guard on the battle map they don't speak there unit name.... Are these units not included in the Punic voice mod?

It looks lovely, though it's a shame that, having made all these marvellous improvements, you mispelt the word 'misthophoros' repeatedly. The unit description contains one or two errors that could be easily polished up as well.

Look in your start menu.
Is this a patch or an entirely different mod...
It's a patch. Sort of explained in the second sentence of the original post.
you mispelt the word 'misthophoros' repeatedly
Quite possibly. It may even be among the things that IAmHereNow pointed out, for I haven't got around to all of those yet... Perhaps you'd like to post exactly where the errors are in this thread (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=103396)?

Perhaps you should try "Run Europa Barbarorum" rather than "Validate Installation" first. That said, if it doesn't work post the results of the validation in a thread in the tech help forum; either your existing one or a new one.

So to clarify, all the EB 1.1 fixes are in the 1.2 patch?
Yes. Or, no. More precisely: The effects of the permanent fixes are in 1.2, but the actual fixes as they were in 1.1 are not, since the client ruler system is reimplemented.
I've questioned Shigawire about this, and that is "okay", those voices are not recorded yet.
Shigawire

The "unit names" are not priority. Most important is voice commands, responses to those commands, and such..

so most of Carthage's units will not speak Punic when you click on them? so when you will you be able to here the language, when giving orders and such? what do you mean exaclty by voice commmands.
Ok installation completed but to acces 1.2 do i still use the same icon as 1.1 or is there another one 'cause i cheked in the 1.2 folder and there are no icons
so there should be a 1.2 icon in the start menu? what if there isn't one.

Thus will the EB 1.2 be improved with new voices and corrected spellings etc.?
I'm downloading it from FileFront and I've very recently started my Romani campaign on EB 1.1 with "minimods pack" installed... and now I'm very seriously thinking on what to do now... as the minimod pack and ALX.exe work quite OK.
Maybe I'll compare the EBBS files and sth more... and maybe it's an easy way to implement 1.2 changes into that pack?
Or else I'll ask the mod-pack author, what is he going to do...
The problem is, that in such a w ay I'll never finish my Romani campaign, as I alway want to play the most complete EB version... :(

I mean things like
"Units, Group!"
"Cavalry, form three lines!"
"Yes sir!" (in choir)
"Chaaarge!"
That's what I mean.

There is an isssue here.. some of the newest units that use this model:

suddenly disappear when you watch them from above. This issue exited in 1.1 and I thought it would be fixed by 1.2. What's with that?
Hrm, missing sprites this time as well? The beta testers haven't noticed anything, but perhaps they did not use that faction. What's the name of the unit? Are you sure that you installed in the right place?

1. Will the "missing sprites fix" and other fixes be made as a separate download , as in case with 1.1?
or
2. Will these fixes be implemented into 1.2 build and placed in the 1.2. download section, thus making the 1.2. already "fixed" and the new, updated file to replace the "current" 1.2. build?

You can use the Trivial script that you installed with 1.1 to run EB 1.2. However, the installer also writes three shortcuts in your Europa Barbarorum start menu folder, called "Run Europa Barbarorum", "Run Europa Barbarorum (troubleshooting)" (which adds -ne and -nm), and "Validate Installation".
You can of course customize your own shortcut any way you like as long as it contains -mod:eb.

Double-click the EB installer file and follow the instructions on screen. Make sure that you select the RTW folder, IE the one where RomeTW.exe lies under. Also make sure that you remove the boilerplate text that comes after the folder that you choose.
So yeah, the RTW folder. The fixes for 1.1 are included, but the sprites fix was again forgotten unfortunately. Even if you've installed the sprites fix for 1.1 you need to get the 1.2 fix for the same, as it has an updated DMB fix that was not part of the 1.1 fix.

Sorry for the late responce, getting married in a month and i have tons of things to do here and there... The message i get is (rough translation from greek to english) "action restricted" and i am using win rar (have Vista at the time).

So I will install RTW 1.5, then EBv1.1(without the fixes?????) and then EBv1.2. Is this correct?
Thanks for any replies.
In a matter of fact i did... So if there is nothing than can be done i will just leave it as is. Thanks a lot for the help tho :)
There isn't "nothing that can be done". You can install outside of Program Files, as the 1.1 installer tells you to.
Digby, you're essentially right. Get RTW 1.5, install EB 1.1 into it, then EB 1.2. Finally install the fixes for 1.2.
One might think that my signature with a HUGE link to them would make people aware of them. Since it's me who posted the release, I mean. And the 1.1 fixes. And multiple times in this thread, among them the one directly before your own post.
Some people have signatures disabled, or use forum skins that don't display signatures. And personally, I have a tendency to ignore everything in a signature, because it's rarely relevant anyway.
Oh, I see. I thought signatures were always displayed. I've added a link in the "important information" sticky now.

Yes it was correct for its time (before installing EB 1.2) I could recruit Kretian archers within my city MICs but after installing it turned to nomadic.

Finishing your campaign in an older EB version is probably the best way - thats my opinion at least. All late versions are awesome enough so its still a great experience even if there might be a newer and better version out. I'm also still continuing my 1.1 save game.
Another option would be to install EB 1.2 to a different folder and start a second campaign and then play both campaigns. Its too confusing though to RP two campaigns simultaniuosly - if you ask me...

when you build a type 4 governement and have the city ruled by a FM, it can happen, that when you withdraw this FM from the city, the city "disappears". What i mean is, that it becomes transparent on the strategymap, as if it was not your city. You still can click on it and build stuff etc., but if you want to see it "lighted up" like your other cities (incl. stuff like the visual display where you see that something is built or recruited in this city) you have to move a spy or a unit of soldiers near that city.
here's an up-to-date example from my Hayasdan Campaign (EB 1.1)

You still can click on it and build stuff etc., but if you want to see it "lighted up" like your other cities (incl. stuff like the visual display where you see that something is built or recruited in this city) you have to move a spy or a unit of soldiers near that city.
here's an up-to-date example from my Hayasdan Campaign (EB 1.1)

That's a RTW bug and I think it is just chance that it happened to have anything to do with the client-ruler system in your instance. Move a family member to/from that town, it should reappear. If not, just wait and it will eventually gain its sight back.

yes, you're right, if i move the FM back, the town appears. and if i remove the fm again it disappears again.

Yes, EB v1.2 is completely mod-foldered.

I suppose its only trivial (considering the new Client System anyway), but the only time I've had a city "disappear" was when I moved a client ruler out of Kabalaka as Hayastan (I was seeing how far I could march him into AS territory for some reason).

Sorry if this has been asked, but this thread has something like 5-6 pages and I do not have time to read all of it (Search Function did not find anything), so here is the question: Is it OK if I have modded EDU when I install 1.2? Would the changed units stats affect 1.2? I have backups and I could replace the modded version with the backups, but I would like for the stats to remain the same in 1.2 without having to go through and mod them again.
Also, I was going to install Darth Stalin's Cohors Evocata/Imperial Cohort/Imperial Gallic Helmet skin fix on my 1.1, which I am still playing since I have to finish my Romani campaign. So, will that cause any incompatibility with 1.2? Or does 1.2 actually fix that problem by itself, meaning that the skin fix will cause incompatibilities?
The EDU is overwritten when you install 1.2. If you put the old one back, you will have an inconsistent installation. Finish your campaigns on 1.1 before upgrading to 1.2, you'll have to start a new campaign then as it is savegame incompatible. As for which submods that are compatible with 1.2, you'll have to see what is said in each of those.

If you put the old one back, you will have an inconsistent installation.
So the EDU has been changed in 1.2?
Also, did 1.2 fix those skin inconsistencies (Cohors Evocata and Cohors Imperatoria)?
Yes, it's changed. I don't remember if anything was done about them. Perhaps the release notes has something about it, most of the changes are listed there.
Aemilius Paulus
12-15-2008, 18:59
What are you talking about? EDU, the two skins or both?
I checked the release notes, and nothing seems to be there about the Cohors Evocata/Imperatoria skin fix. Does anyone else know? C'mon, I'm sure there are plenty of people playing 1.2 right now!!!
I was talking about both, in succession.

Correct about that being the new Sweboz general. And good luck when you have to fight them. Swabian Body Guards are powerful foes.
Unfortunately, we cannot have different portraits from the regular ones of your faction. Also we cannot choose their names, so they will get names from the faction you control.
So there's no way that this can/will be changed in the future? It was awkward when my new Carthaginian-installed tyrant of Syracuse had the name of something like Bodashqurt.
Otherwise, the client system seems to be pretty nice.
No, no chance. We'd have to go back to the old implementation to get there. This new implementation is conceptually worse, but seems to be more stable.
maybe this was already reported
torrent for 700+ mB file (EB1.1.exe) is dead.
Torrent file that can be downloaded from EB homepage has only sumotracker (down), although the file is tracked on few other trackers (no seeds at any though).
Currently downloading from filefront (slow), will seed (if files match).
You should update homepage torrent with additional reliable trackers.
I thought that was done automatically when I added them in the client? At least, it shows seeds for me using those other trackers. I'll put up a new torrent file with the other trackers.
Edit: Hope I've done it right. Try now.

So ...finally
After years of ignoring EB after playing an old version which wasn't good in my opinion (0.8)
I managed to download and install EB a second time, because I read only positive comments on this Mod ...and it is just awesome ! No other Mod can reach this awesome work ...
And now I have to post here ...thank you for this mod.
But there is one thing I cannot get along with ...I play with Epeiros an conquered Sicily, south italy, grecce and parts asia minor (dont know the name in English)
But ..all was great until ...lusotanan (because i can't spell it right, i will write iberian from now on)
They managed to defeat Carthagians in Spain (ok this is not unusual I think) but then these barbarians were doing a campaign I couldn't imagine ...they eliminate arverni AND aedui they gained whole gaule. And now they are pushing back both sweboz and the romans ... I am very sick about this ...I was happy to imagine how my phalangitai march into the heart of europe defeating all these barbarians and slave them into protectorates :whip:
Now I keep my eyes on conquering the east ...but there is a similarity to the west, one superpower destroys the others ...the Ptolomai have eastern asia minor, the whole middleeast ...they even got India ! seleucids have just one settlement left, saaba and hayasdan are both protectorats of this diadochi state which should have stayed in egypt, and pontos was eliminated around 250bc ..no its 209 BC. And the stupid romans aren't going to become a superpower ...they just try to gain my settlements in south italy which they can't take because i defend them very good ....ARGH
So after being a bit frustrated, I read the 1.2 notes for the first time ...
iberian mimosity now fixed blabla;
I dont want to offense your great work but ... I think you helped them too much
Do factions have any advantages when they are going to be destroyed ? Some bonuses when just 1 settlement is left ?
And are you planning to do some work on somekind of patch or new version ?
So ...good luck and best wishes for EB II :egypt:
and sorry for my crappy English, I'm German
I think you may have not started the background script?
Anyway, we did not make any balancing changes to Lusotannan. We only changed that they are likely to go to war with Carthage, rather than Pontus (which was rather useless). It's great that they for once managed to do well.
This is probably a stupid question, but when you install 1.2 does the version number change in the main menu. Mine still says 1.1 even though I installed 1.2.
Also, is it possible that I installed 1.2 wrong? I as this because of what I mentioned above, but also because when I build a type IV government it still spawns a client ruler. I installed the 1.2 file in the same folder as my 1.1 installation along this file path (C:\Users\*myusername*\Games\Rome - Total War\EB.

That must have been what it was, I re-installed and everything is good now. Thanks.

In previous version of EB I was able to assassinate family members...now - there's no way for doing that (only some sgents). The biggest chance of success for my assassinate was 8%, and he was agent lvl10.
How can I fix that??? 'Cause Assassins are becoming completely useless...
You could add an effect of negative personal security on the UnitSize trait levels I suppose. That will affect all generals.

1. So, if general has less bodyguards - it's easier to kill him? In M2TW there was a file which you could edit and it gives a greater chance for success of your agents - assassinss, spies and merchants - is there anything similar here, or do I have to reduce the No of bodyguards?
2. I'm playing with Macedons, and I'm having 24-30 horsemen with my general, while Seleukids, Pontic, Epirus are having 30-50 bodyguards. Is this suppose to be like that?
Btw, thanks for your last answer.

Is it possible to make some building that would be able to convert Huge city into your culture? That would be very usefull, because this way you have to hurry to conquer some far away cities, if you want to avoid public disorder...and it would look more nice! For example building costs same as the imperial palace, but needs 20 turns...

Have you started the backround script? Without the script, the AI will go broke and do nothing.
To activate the script click on one of your towns, then click on the advisor's picture in the top left, then click the "show me how" button. This must be done ever time you start a new game or load a saved game.
If the script is active, then it just may be random chance that has slowed your AI.

I took some generals when I played with Makedonia and won more then 10 battles - yet my general was only good tactician +1 command and the other thing that gives +1 command. He was Sharp/Scharismatic/Vigorous, but that didn't get him anywhere. When I looked in descr_character_traits, I saw that treshold was set too high. I mean 64 for legendary commander? I think that's impossible (correct me if I'm wrong).
When I edited descr_character_traits, it crashes the game. So how can I edit teh file?? (I have wordpad)
p.s. suggestion - you should make that if your general (with let's say 2 stars) fights an enemy general (with 8 stars) and wins, and the battle ratio is 1:1 (or tougher for you), that you always recieve +1 or +2 command (upgrade in command stars...). What do you think?
Mediolanicus
02-08-2009, 12:32
It's much harder to get command stars in EB than in RTW Vanilla.
AI generals get 5 stars or so from the EB script (or another file, I'm not sure).
This is because AI generals always suicidally charge into your lines. This way they'll live longer and boost nearby units to give you a harder fight.
AI got bonusses, you (are supposed to) have the brains.
Command stars are not important if you don't use your generals as Kamikazes. It's morale traits that are important. Check your generals on those.
Which doesn't mean it's impossible to have lost of Command starts. I have an 8, a 6 and a 5 star general in my campaign, but that's nothing compared to their morale boosters.
I'm trying to mod EDCT and any tiny change I do means the game crashes.
Stop using Notepad to edit Unicode files, it has no idea how to treat those.
Get a free Unicode-aware editor. There are lots available, but Crimson or Notepad++ should be sufficient. Google them.
I think that wordpad can't edit Unicode files either.

You should be able to recruit the Thorakitai Agematos Basilikou -- keep in mind of AOR; I think it's probably Babylon, Seleukeia, and Antiocheia only. Make sure you have a high enough tier barracks, I don't think the default barracks in those respective cities will suffice.

-BI for EB 1.2 (ferromancer's mod)
in the folder, i can see the icons: BI for EB, EB 1.2 shortcut, etc.
so, it seems that EB 1.2 is installed
BUT, when i launch EB, in the first imagine i read EB 1.1 (down on the left side).
so, i guess it is uninstalled, isn't?
note that i installed everything in the right folder (RTW folder), NOT in the RTW/EB folder.
so,
frankly speaking, when i play strategic, the AI seems typically dumb (ex. no landing of new epirote army on the undefended shores in southern italy).
so, what to guess? is 1.2 installed, or not?
does it affect the minimod pack and the BI pack? (mean are they installed?)
what to do?

I have downloaded EB 1.2 and installed it in the same folder as RTW Gold Edition where I installed EB 1.1.
When I load the RTW on Steam I can't get it to reflect EB 1.2, it only loads EB 1.1.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Make sure you have installed EB 1.2 to the same target as EB 1.1. That target will end on ...\Rome - Total War.
It will NOT end in ...\Rome - Total War\EB!!! Then you'll install EB 1.2 inside EB itself and then you'll end up with having an EB folder inside your EB folder. The latter won't work of course and so it will only play the former (being 1.1).
Just delete that last EB folder and install 1.2 again in the right place.
Thank you to all that made this mod possible. I have tried EB before but it was 1.1, and I had 1 gb of memory and could hardly play it. I finally upgraded to 2 gig's and 1.2 and it is playing very smooth with no crashes. I will have to say the install process was a little confusing at first, its up and going strong.
For those that have issues with installing it, this is how i did it:
* First do a clean install of RTW 1.5 OUTSIDE of the 'Program Files' folder. Mine was in the C: folder (C:\Rome - Total War) . Note that EB 1.1, its update 1.2, and the 1.2 fixes MUST be installed into this folder.
* Install EB 1.1 to that RTW folder (have to do it manually probably) mine was . Do not install 1.1 fixes
* Copy/ paste 1.2 update after it was extracted (182 mb- 1 folder 'EB' and 3 files) into into the RTW folder (again probably manually). for me it was (C:\Rome - Total War)
* Install the 3 fixes for 1.2 by copy/pasting the those folders to the Data folder within the EB folder within RTW folder. For me it was (C:\Rome - Total War\EB\Data )
* Made a shortcut to desktop from "RomeTW.exe" in RTW folder. (C:\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe) - (right click it, and send shortcut to desktop)
* Added this line below to the target of the shortcut's properties on the desktop just created. Makes sure there is 1 space between target path and this line:
"-mod:eb -show_err -ne"
(Right click the shortcut created on desktop, click properties, target line is under the 'shortcut' tab. Also under same tab is where you can change icon look to EB's icon)
* Then I changed the icon of the shortcut to the EB icon, and renamed it which is optional of course.
* I hope that helps anyone that may see it and need help.
I am just very glad I'm able to play it. This mod is right there as one of my favorites along side my other favorite one which shall be nameless. Thanks for all the effort to make this happen. Ok, now back to my first Punic War, which so far in the first strike, my Romans are victors.

After a long break from EB I noticed that 1.2 was out a few weeks ago. After being a bit disappointed with Empire and deciding to wait until they have patched everything in that title to a properly working game, I decided to give EB 1.2 a whirl. One thing's for sure, YOU guys do not disappoint!
I'm currently running a Pontos campaign on H/M with City Mod 5.1a, Forced diplomacy, Sinuhet's formations and Victory conditions added on and it is a whole lot of fun, so much so that I'm beginning to worry about getting enough work done...
One of the most amusing and astonishing details has been a certain rebel army consisting of double silver chevron chalkaspidae and classical hoplites lead by a six or seven star general. I believe he started out patrolling the Pergamon region but attacked an AS stack on the border that was immediately and thoroughly defeated, taking him into the region around Sardis instead. There he has caused great devastation during the past four years or so and immediately attacks anyone that enters the region.
Even though I took Mazaka and Ipsos on the same turn in a surprise attack around 266 BC, the AS focused a large and menacing full stack of troops on eliminating the rebel threat around Sardis, marching the huge army all the way from Karkathiokerta, past their recently lost settlements of Mazaka and Ipsos, and instead lost in a crushing defeat to the rebel heroes. Finally, after sending another 3/4 stack along the same route, a combined force of AS troops managed to get rid of the rebel threat. I remained passive and have been building up for a good few years and can now strike at a severly depleted AS presence in Sardis with its mines...
So far, this has been one of my most enjoyable experiences with EB or any other mod to date!
Thank you!

Just make sure you install everything in the Rome: Total War directory. That goes for 1.2 as well. Following the instructions that are in this thread: https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=109876 shouldn't be too hard.
Under the 1.2 folder it says this [First select your RTW where EB1.1 is, then remove this]

No it means select the directory where your RTW is installed (for example: C:\\Games\RTW) then remove that part ([First select your RTW where EB1.1 is, then remove this] this actual text) from that line in the installation window.
So when you select your RTW directory that line in installation window will look like this: C:\\Games\RTW[First select your RTW where EB1.1 is, then remove this]. remove the bold text and proceed.

My very belated (:embarassed:) congratulations for the new releases (1.1 and 1.2). Special thanks to Shigawire and the rest of the voice mod team for finally completing the Punic vocci. ~:)
Are the voice mods planned to be extended to the campaign map, if that's possible at all? My Roman generals still report like GI Joes. ~;p
