OMG

The story of the humble Aedui people.

Introduction

http://www.downau.com/publications/articles/History%20of%20Scotland_files/image018.png

Oh, great Lugos, please assist me as I woo this fair maiden! Oh, hello there. I'm Troucillos, and I serve the great Vergobret, the biggest pimp in all of Gaul, and great magistrate of the Aedui confederacy, which will soon rule over Gaul, or so they say. Anyways, I'm a diplomat, and my job is to talk to these "Romani" posers from Italia, to get them to **** off.

That pretty much sums up our relations. Except for the abundant blood, guts, gore, and utter hatred. That's usually a bit more prevalent; Enestinos would know. The Vergobret sends him to fight the posers, while he hangs out in Bibracte with his dancing girls and squatter friends. Really, maybe he should pull his excessive weight sometime, though we seem to be doing fine without it. Here's my pal, Vortigern, with the latest news on the campaign against the posers.

https://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4740/sissymaxim034jhdf6.jpg

Hey, folks, name's Vortigern. Down here's some big ass tourist attraction called Massalia, full of Greeks, Celts, and, now, Romans. Enestinos' latest goal is this fine city, full of trade, surrounded by impressive walls, and most importantly...

https://img220.imageshack.us/img220/4740/sissymaxim034jhdf6.jpgg

...Greek women. Hope I can get some.

Ah, finally a sane person. I don't really mind anyway, as I use some of them myself as well. Unconsciously, that is, but I do. Anyway, I just didn't like the fact that I was pointed out like some kind of idiot for not knowing them. Ok then, back to topic:juggle2:

Chapter I

http://web.mac.com/heraklia/Caesar/battles/The%20Gallic%20Wars/Vercingetorix_Coin.gif

Erm, hello? Oh, yes, about that siege...well, it ended kind of quickly...

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_b38f4.jpg

As you can see, it clearly wasn't much of a fight. But, when we entered the town, we found that half of the Greek women had been abducted to Rome, or so said Troucillos. No matter, we still have the other half...

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_eb1ee.jpg

After a good one night stand and the extermination of all the Roman citizens of the town, Enestinos left the (once again) Kelto-Hellenic city and headed east to fight some "worthy" Romans. He was hoping that the minimal garrison left there would contain the anger of the Greek fathers, and that the new puppet governor wasn't late...

Meanwhile, a nice youth from the Sequani tribes presented himself to Enestinos. He told him that he was a former chieftain of the Sequani tribes, and that he would be a fine addition to the royal family. But Enestinos asked him, "If you were a cheiftain then why are you on the run?"

"Well," said the youth, "we kind of elect our chieftains..."

"Well then obviously you FAIL!" roared Enestinos. However, he was permitted to join the school of bodyguards back in Bibracte, and was a candidate for addition to the ranks of the Brihentin. Until then, I hope not to see him.

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_e0921.jpg

But, at last, the Romans showed up for the fight. We told them to meet us here on the Ligurian border. Looks like they brought the whole gang, too.

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_263a4.jpg

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_1a358.jpg

Hi, I'm Malac and I've been around with Enestinos here for a while. Of course, us Iosatae don't get paid a ton, but we don't have to run into that big mess they call "melee," and I'm pretty glad about that. I'm also glad that we're on top of this 500-foot hill and they're not. Pretty damn steep, too. Wonder if those posers can climb it. Oh, by the way, I'm the guy who looks like he's bent over because his back hurts. Damn right it does, this slinging really takes its toll...

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_6088c.jpg

...on the enemy and my back!

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_2a18e.jpg

Our javelins begin to make it rain.

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_20e46.jpg

Meanwhile, the Roman squatters, drafted into the army, make an appearance, but not for long. Lame.

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_f86f6.jpg

Some Romans actually begin real combat, while others beg for mercy and/or water...

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_862fd.jpg

While few of us G's are killed.

Interlude: The Great Thanksgiving to Lugos

http://www.downau.com/publications/articles/History%20of%20Scotland_files/image038.jpg

Hey, Troucillos again. So we be chilllin' up here in Bibracte with the Vergobret, his homies, and about 70 virgins, when all the peasants start running out of their houses and dancing around in the streets. I mean, WTF?

So I go up and ask the Vergobret, and he says, "It's the Thanksgiving of Lugos. Didn't you know, noob?"

"No sir, I only just started this job..."

"FAIL!" shouted the fat man, and I scampered out of his Amaudrahanna, only to meet face-to-face with a peasant knocking on the door.

http://celts.mrdonn.org/celts07.gif

"Who the **** are you?" I asked.

"Byrdynn moc Eilos" he replied, "but that doesn't matter. We need the Vergobret outside right now!"

"O rly?" I asked. "And what is it that demands His Majesty's excessively large presence?"

"We need him to make an offering to Lugos!"

"Oh, right!" I said, and prompted the Magistrate to immediately come.

"Oh, come on." he moaned. "She'd just gotten me in the mood. Fine..." and he slumped out of his chair, while his guards were all to busy flirting. But suddenly, a great figure appeared. He was 7 feet tall, and shot fire from his eyes and lightning from his ass.

http://www.moviewallpapers.net/images/wallpapers/1995/braveheart/braveheart-1-1024.jpg

"Oh get up, you big lazy-ass brute. Why don't you go help your people?" At these words, the Vergobret stood at attention and marched out the door. The guards got their ladies' numbers and followed him. William Wallace, smiling, dissapeared.

Once we got outside, the peasants immediately kowtowed to the Vergobret, who marched to the town square, where a fire pit and a table awaited him.

"Where is the Town Fool?" he cried. "That embarrasment to all of our people?"

A small man walked forward, and quickly shoved his hands in his pants. As soon as he stepped onto the wooden center of the town square, he imeediately turned into a goat. A priest picked up the bleating animal and placed it on the table. The king unsheathed a fine longsword and separated the animal's head from its neck. The priest immediately placed the bleeding corpse in the firepit.

The bleeding goat began to rise, surrounded by a halo. Suddenly, the peasants rose up and joined arms in concentric circles, and began to dance around the firepit, singing these words:

Hava nagila

Hava nagila

Hava nagila ve nis'mekha...

and the song went on. The Vergobret was confounded.

"What is this?" he said. "I told them that the national language was Punic, not Hebrew!"

"Sir," I said, "It's those stupid Roman translators' fault."

"Dammit!" swore the fat man, but the peasants continued their circle dance. Finally, the held up a great sign.

"STFU" it read, but the peasants continued to dance. "Dammit!" swore the Vergobret again. Why are they all illiterate?

"It's not that they're illiterate sir, it's that they only know the Phoenician Alphabet." So the king made another sign.

http://www.upload2world.com/pic104/upload2world_e4094.jpg

That got the peasants to shut up. The king made an announcement.

"Thank you, thank you. Pater Lugos, we thank you for your kind service to our people. Thank you." All of this was said in Punic, of course.

Then, a messenger ran into the middle of the festival, panting, for he had run 26 miles to bring the news...

"The Romans are coming! The Romans are coming!" he said, before dropping dead on the floor.

gamegeek2
11-27-2008, 17:48
FYI, that Phoenician writing says "ShTPW." Sorry, but there's no "F" in the Phoenician alphabet, and there are no vowels either, so I substituted "W", which is used as a mater lectionis in some abjads and also evolved to be the Greek letter Upsilon. FYI, Phoenician reads right to left.

Chapter II: A New Beginning

http://www.stephenyoull.com/images/NewGallery/Medium/scott-eagle.jpg

The epic saga of the story now comes to an end, as it seems our adoption of Punic has attracted the ire of their fellow Semites, and all of our family members were Slain by Sabaeans! But no, the story does not end here, for a new beginning is at hand! Version 1.2, that is!

OMG!

https://img515.imageshack.us/img515/9919/83269630ag0.jpg

Our story begins anew in Insubramorg, where the local Aedui flee the Romani terror, leaving only a few fools standing. These runaways are heading to fight the Arverni who dare challenge the mighty Aedui for hegemony over Gaul.

The first news of action comes in...

https://img395.imageshack.us/img395/4038/13809897gr6.jpg

The Vergobret, who personally commanded the attacking force, was honored with a triumph in Roma, and Epona herself, who had smiled upon him all his life, came down to congratulate him, and told him that he could now have his mind at peace, for victory was now assured. Tancigostela proceeded to lead most of our victorious forces south to assist our brothers as they struggled to resist the mighty forces of Aneirin oi Lugos.

https://img171.imageshack.us/img171/9633/21917285rb4.jpg

The siege of Viennos was a short and brutal affair, and it ended with the Arverni's decision to leave the walls of their city and face our men in honest combat.

https://img142.imageshack.us/img142/9621/28702767wl4.jpg

Needless to say, the speed was more than good enough to get whatshisname and is men to the battle on time. In fact, the horses had been fed some too, and immediately charged at the foe. Our general was all too keen to follow.

https://img515.imageshack.us/img515/6281/57873203tr1.jpg

https://img514.imageshack.us/img514/5184/52543428sj5.jpg

A LA LA!

https://img514.imageshack.us/img514/4754/45155032ko3.jpg

https://img227.imageshack.us/img227/2610/21989872ym0.jpg

As a brave young man and his army marches towards the formidable walls of Gergovia, the Arverni desperately send one of their minions to stand in this way, to stall for long enough to build their secret weapon and recapture Viennos. Fat chance.

https://img227.imageshack.us/img227/5511/10046180dz2.jpg

https://img515.imageshack.us/img515/2372/41852173it5.jpg

Hey, Malac again. So I went back in time with this whole thing, and I was 17 and looking for a job in my hometown, Bibracte. So the Bataroas came through and the ladies flocked to them. They were all buff and stuff, and told stories of war across the land, and how they got their various scars. So I thought this would be a good way to get what every man wants - wine, women, and money - and so I joined up. And I was started at the same level as all the other guys. That means decimation if you run away, 50 push-ups if you mess up, and a daily run of 7 kilometers. Now, this is my FIRST first battle. Here's to not getting killed.

https://img340.imageshack.us/img340/4590/45838815cn8.jpg

Though the skies are clear and it is warmer than Epona's embrace, it begins to hail on the enemy. I have a hunch that it has to do with the Iaosatae - they're always causing trouble in the enemy ranks, the sneaky bastards.

As the enemy Epos approach us, we unleash a stinging volley of javelins. The brave enemies run away through our ranks, and most of them are killed doing so. Props for the attempt, but try running AWAY from the enemy next time.

https://img205.imageshack.us/img205/5791/75086108ta9.jpg

The Iaosatae, scattered by the rush of the enemy Epos, regroup and begin to hail on the enemy again.

https://img92.imageshack.us/img92/4973/94314142op9.jpg]

Meanwhile, a unit of Lugoae advances to take one for the team.

https://img235.imageshack.us/img235/7514/10387734nh7.jpg

These men are quickly surrounded by horsemen, and we advance to help our comrades face the terror set before them...

https://img396.imageshack.us/img396/3953/21130385xz0.jpg

And all too soon, I have earned a promotion, even though the Lugoae are already fleeing for the hills. The lucky bastards don't have decimation, they're just levies...

https://img186.imageshack.us/img186/2195/68658501ci6.jpg

The enemies make a break for it, to live out their lives in the lush Gallic countryside...we were so overjoyed with our first victory that we forgot to count the dead. We didn't lose many, compared to the enemies.

Next Chapter: The Siege of Gergovia (wow, what a creative title)

The Siege of Gergovia

http://web.mac.com/heraklia/Alexander/Chapter_3/Graphics/latene.jpg

http://www.upload2world.com/pic106/upload2world_98eba.jpg

Hey, Vortigern again. So, yeah, we hired out this sneaky bastard, Orgetoros. He's a really desperate fellow, so we made a deal with him. He opens the gates to Gergovia, he gets some. If he doesn't, then who knows, he'll probably be dead anyways - if he isn't, he probably won't come back anyways. After our talks, we shove him out the tent, and he scampers off for the city walls.

http://www.upload2world.com/pic106/upload2world_c7d65.jpg

Dennoros, I have failed thee. My skill wasn't enough.

Because he failed it, we must besiege teh town. Dennoros sees no problem, and various siege machines are constructed. But no! The Arverni decide to meet us on the field in battle, instead of waiting behind the walls!

http://www.upload2world.com/pic106/upload2world_7fc49.jpg

http://www.upload2world.com/pic106/upload2world_a9ddf.jpg

Yo, Malac here. After I shanked that general last battle, I got promoted, and now I ride among the ranks of the Brihentin, "those who are too lazy to walk." And this is the life, man...we get first beer all the time at mess, and we don't have to run a mile after we screw up (no point, really). Oh, and the dancing girls.

http://www.upload2world.com/pic106/upload2world_6e118.jpg

Combat is quickly joined, and just as quickly ended.

http://www.upload2world.com/pic106/upload2world_bd180.jpg

http://www.upload2world.com/pic106/upload2world_e1f19.jpg

But a new force arrives, and the Lugoae quickly stop looting the dead and form ranks, ready to fight again.

http://www.upload2world.com/pic106/upload2world_173c9.jpg

Much more disciplined than the rowdy Bataroas, that's for sure. They showed up late after the intermission, and we couldn't continue the battle until they showed up.

http://www.upload2world.com/pic106/upload2world_0a00c.jpg

The battle is joined quickly, as our troops engage their former countrymen. (And, I must say, that is a pretty damn good screenshot)

Chapter III, Part I

Well, hello again. Thought I wouldn't be seeing you for a while. That lazy ass gamegeek2's been too busy with...Erm. Anyways, so the Lusotannan come up from their rabbit-holes in Iberia and ask us a stupid question. These are the guys that the Carthies talk about, with their strange form of speaking. And worse, it's infecting us all!

https://img338.imageshack.us/img338/4751/47424571xr9.jpg

Meanwhile, throughout proud France, the land is being modified (now that we've recovered our 10 trillion dollar debt) and though these paths have been around for as long as any man can remember, for the first time they have been dedicated and given names - Rothos.

https://img201.imageshack.us/img201/1389/80636667mu1.th.jpg

Meanwhile, the Romans finally stormed Mediolanum, but we were all gone! However, they soon moved on to assault Aventicos, probably because of the economic stimulus package (Roxacarnos, aka mines) that we were constructing there.

https://img181.imageshack.us/img181/503/23377445bh6.jpg

And, equally as expected, we manage to fend off the Romans, who for once weren't using stacks of Pedites Extraordinarii and Triarii (I modded descr_strat so that they were "napoleon," not "caesar,") meaning a simpler victory than ever - one flanking maneuver, a charge in the rear, and their whole army was sent scampering back home.

(Sorry for the incomplete chapter, but I'm not feeling well today, barely managed to get myself out of bed and write this.)

The historical battle you mean? I think I have. Is it in 1.1 though? I have tried all of the historical battles in 1.1, but I do not have 1.2 or the Historical Battles Pack for 1.1.

Anyway, keep up you AAR. I have enjoyed reading it so far and I am glad that you did not abandon it like so many do. You know, I believe that there is actually a trend lately towards being more committed to one's own AAR's. when I do a forum search for past AARs, 90% of them are only one page, most of which is comments, not the actual AAR, but right now the AARs are at least two pages.

Chapter III, Part II

https://www.europabarbarorum.com/p/aedui-shieldwall.jpg

Jak sie masz! Vortigern again. Malac has come back from campaign in Lugouw and returned to serve Dennoros in the upcoming campaign against the Wolkas (Volcae, Ouolkai, Wolxozez, whatever...) and their hill-fort of Tolosa. I go to find out more. Dzienkuje.

https://img237.imageshack.us/img237/7721/dennorosmt6.jpg

Here I am, in Bibracte, with Dennoros, the greatest general of the Aedui. How does it feel to have this hot b... I mean, the title, Dennoros?

Dennoros: It feels amazing...oh, not the title. The title, bla bla bla - It's just cool to be the biggest, baddest ass in Gaul, and everybody knows it, too. May we strike fear into the hearts of the mighty Wolkas, who so bravely raided the Hellenes...and they won't share their treasure! No fair!

Me: Speaking of which, when do you intend to attack these greedy assholes, the Wolkas?

Dennoros: Whenever I feel like it, gosh!

Me: That wil; be all for now. Dzienkuje.

--- Some time later, outside of the walls of Tolosa ---

Hello, Malac here, with a first-hand account of the battle. As one of the men who later joined the battle for Tolosa, I'm glad to say I survived. :) Anyways, my "campaign" in Lugouw was great - I brought back a nice two-handed sword and sold it to the Britons for big bucks. Still can't manage to get laid, but I'm certainly capable of cleaving someone's head off with a sword, as I demonstrate in this battle.

https://img291.imageshack.us/img291/2614/65850530rx2.jpg

Quickly, the ram was brought forward, while the slingers rained missiles on the greedy assholes inside the town. However, though greedy they were, they had stolen the money from the Greeks fair and square and made it all the way back here alive...the Illyrioi must feel cheated that they missed out on such a profitable raid. Oh well, that's none of my concern.

https://img244.imageshack.us/img244/4166/45153278no9.jpg

The new recruits entered the battle first, and met the commoners of the town, men who took up arms to defend their settlement and their people. The fighting was fierce, but the longswords sliced through the ranks of the traders and farmers in front of them.

https://img514.imageshack.us/img514/2470/99116577vr8.jpg

A quick volley of javelins and a charge to the flank finishes them, and they flee back to their lord's hold and the town square.

https://img258.imageshack.us/img258/5925/22215578ke7.jpg

With them out of the way, my comrades and I joined the brutal melee taking place just inside the walls, near the freshly opened gate. It was glorious and brutal, with every man fighting for his life, but taking pride as his sword (not that sword) entered his fellow man, exiting with a sickening schikk. Blood spurted everywhere, our boots were covered with the red liquid, but we had no time to care, as the battle flowed on, with sling-bullets raining on our heads, and only our helmets for protection.

https://img520.imageshack.us/img520/1958/16060560cj7.jpg

Many Epos joined the massive brawl, and their horses seemed unnatural - something was wrong with them, though I could not figure out what it was in the thick of battle. I shoved my sword through one of their heads, and it fell down with a final sad whinny. The poor rider stood up, wielding his spear and shield with deft hands. And though his spear broke many times, he took out javelins to replace them. One of these stabbed my right side, but no deep penetration was made, for it lacked the true thrusting power of a spear. I seized the moment and with one fell swoop severed the man's head from his neck, and tossed it into the crowd before me, as a comrade stepped in front of me to take my place in line.

However, the sheer mass of the horsemen continued to allow the foe to push us back, and some of our men were being pushed out of the gates. Then, the Lugoae rushed in, providing much-needed spear support against the ever-advancing horsemen, who were scattered throughout the melee, opening tiny holes in our line.

https://img185.imageshack.us/img185/2600/37369359hu4.jpg

News reached us that the enemy general had been killed, and morale rose, as we continued the fight, but without even a moment to celebrate or inform the enemy of this event. But a final push by the Lugoae and the front ranks knocked many an enemy down, and we unhesitantly rushed forward to take full advantage of this. In moments, the enemy was routing, and we surged forward, mercilessly slaying all who were unfortunate enough to be in our path.

https://img514.imageshack.us/img514/303/94865799yq0.jpg

Off in the distance, we saw more horsemen charging our slingers. We wanted to do something, but we were out of breath, exhausted by the huge melee we had just been in. These swords are awfully heavy - if I hadn't had that training, I would've dropped mine after three minutes. And we saw that the fresh Lugoae who had been kept in reserve had it covered, as well as Dennoros, who entered the battle with his knights to clean up this whole mess. With the rest of the army tired out, it was time to play the final card, and to add this town to our empire.

https://img389.imageshack.us/img389/6975/98260718jb4.jpg

And that's exactly what we did :)

Chapter IV

https://www.europabarbarorum.com/p/Aedui01.jpg

https://img220.imageshack.us/img220/9132/vortigernao3.jpg Hello, Vortigern here, reporting from outside Massalia. I'm just checking out the local towns, mainly as a scouting mission for Dennoros (his army should arrive in a month or so... but I'm also taking this time to do somethings I have been wanting to do for a while. I'm looking for those those Hetairai - I'm an educated man (kind of rare among us smelly "barbaroi") and I'm now looking for something more - philosophy. See, I'm trying to become a philosopher, so I can take some time off from my job and go to one of those schools of philosophy - I'm sure there's one in Massalia. But I don't want to look like a noob when I go there...so I'm seeing if I can find one of these Hetairai to teach me this "philosopheia"...they're probably a lot less boring that a droning Greek teacher, and they have other talents as well...

Also, remember that bumbler from the Sequani? Yeah, well he's finally finished his schooling and joined the Brihentin. Came through time to do it, too, so great job on his part...wait, what kind of god would help that asshole? Musta been Epona, she probably favors those Brihentin, with their fancy armour, horses, and such. Either that, or the aliens are in our base...OH NOES!

https://img210.imageshack.us/img210/3297/17033022xr6.jpg

Several weeks later, it became apparent that the Swebozez were on a kamikaze mission in the north. After we did the job for them, I was sent north to negotiate peace - shouldn't they be focusing on their own lands anyways? After some rather forceful negotiation we managed to reach a peace settlement. Those guys were a nightmare to speak with - I'm no linguist, so I don't understand Germanic Indo-European if I don't recognize cognates, and their knowledge of Gaulish was limited to simple sentences - apparently, they were only in Gaulish 2A.

https://img407.imageshack.us/img407/1883/46866099xc1.jpg

The Romans sent a small force out to fight us, not a great idea if you ask me. Oh well, here are some screenshots paintings of the battle...

...FOR MORE IMAGES, GO TO UPLOAD2WORLD.COM...

Later, after Dennoros actually besieged them, the squatters snuck in an army from Italia.

https://img407.imageshack.us/img407/3076/54105588ak7.jpg

Battle Report by Dennoros

We lined up for battle next to the bridge. I had 4 units of swordsmen hold the bridge (and the Iaosatae fire into the mass of enemies) while I took my Brihentin and Malac's swordsmen to attack the reinforcements.

https://img82.imageshack.us/img82/1928/96701930yy3.jpg

https://img184.imageshack.us/img184/4778/69143063sl0.jpg

As I planned, we bottleneck them and their superior numbers on that front are negated by the narrowness of the bridge.

https://img249.imageshack.us/img249/1312/57401586lh4.jpg[/CENTER]

On the other side of the battlefield, my knights and I catch the enemy heavy cavalry off guard and smash into them in a well-timed charge.

https://img394.imageshack.us/img394/9318/42492474hk5.jpg

And Malac and his troops carve through ranks of poorly trained Roman levies.

https://img265.imageshack.us/img265/1338/34043267pz7.jpg

https://img98.imageshack.us/img98/5986/55999177rk8.jpg

Soon, the enemy infantry give up on the bridge assault and many of them attempt to flee through our ranks. Not a smart idea.

https://img79.imageshack.us/img79/529/90055981en1.jpg

There stands Massalia, in all glory, after we enslaved half of the population (necessary precaution), which took away an awful lot of its glory, but oh well.

Chapter V

https://img187.imageshack.us/img187/2625/84307171ne3.jpg

After two years' travels in Germania, I returned to Gaul, and found it much the same. But upon asking the Vergobret, I found out that some new guy (great commander, apparently) was down in Italia, getting our land back. That's right, OUR land. But them Romans don't hand over just anything without sending lots of troops to defend it. So we didn't expect this to be a cakewalk. Now what did it turn out to be, you might ask...

...well, just to go off topic, I found Demetria (yeah, whatshername the Hetaires from the previous chapter) hanging around Massalia, so I took her with me to Italia to spectate. She's certainly interested in helping actually write the history books. Which means we'd better be victorious...

https://img187.imageshack.us/img187/2153/48442574lk1.jpg

We scored a crushing victory in this battle, wiping out the enemy and taking the town. We proceeded to build a new government and continue south into Liguria. At the bridge-crossing, we were met by a Roman allied army composed mainly of Hellenes from the southern part of Italia.

https://img84.imageshack.us/img84/9408/49070680nr1.jpg

Meanwhile, our slingers rage against the enemy right flank. Heavy casualties ensue.

Introduction

Waz up? Name's Zanticos, I been up in this Getic...

Pardon my friend (and relative) there, he's not the smartest guy you've ever crossed paths with, if you know what I mean. The name's Aspaurg, yes my name resembles the ever common aspa, "horse," doesn't it? [Screw that Ossetian stuff, I'm using ATB Scytho-Sarmatian] Well, something was going on back in the (recently sacked) Gava of the Bastarnata. Some dude comes riding up to me with a message, and I take a swig of this Germanic beer before hearing him out, in case it's bad news...

So, the guy comes up to me and hands me this scrap of papyrus (gotta love those raids, eh?)

Finally, those drug-smugglers have gotten a shipment through! Those Seleukids are really cracking down on the trade, it's a big source of income for us, the Parthai, the Saka, and even Baktria's in on it. Geez, they have no friends. Except Makedonia, but they're also allied with the Getai, so they're stupid anyways. Oh, pardon my rant...it seems that we have a guest, Zanticos! What is thy name?

"My name is Vortigern of the Aedui."

What is thy quest?

"My quest is to find gamegeek2's goddamn save files and get back in the right campaign!"

What...is the velocity of an African swallow?

"I'm not falling for this again...AAH!!!" (falls down bottomless pit of doom)

Pardon the gruesome scene, you may pass. My lord Zanticos is off fighting a battle, apparently the Getai have sallied from their dava in a futile attempt to destroy our armies. They wish...

Meanwhile, to the south, Paradates uses his great wealth obtained in the conquest of Kallatis, hiring out mercenaries and quickly raising an army to destroy a Getic force eager to recapture the valuable coastal city.

The Old West

http://www.ireporter.tv/Upload/www.travelitaly360.com/sunrise-italy-stromboli.jpg

In case you were wondering, the Sauromatae went on to conquer Sarmiszegethusa, Buridava, and Naissos, and the last of the Getai were based in Lucarottea, doomed to war with the Swebozez one day. Perhaps someday we will hear of the great steppe empire again...

After falling down the BOTTOMLESS PIT OF DOOM, Vortigern managed to negotiate with the devil - he would give him his precious Hetaira, Demetria, for a week in exchange (expenses paid) for passage back to his appropriate time in Gaul. However, the devil was quite the man, and Demetria fell in love with him, and stayed in hell with the fiery prince of darkness. While the devil's war against Hades continued to be fierce, Vortigern returned to Gaul to find a world in surprising peace

Dennoros and the other guy managed to capture Bononia and Patavium, the other two Celtic strongholds in Roman lands. They continued to fight battles until, at last, the stubborn Romani were at last confined to non-Celtic Italia, and the Aedui managed to negociate a peace treaty to keep the ever-aggressive red banners out of the lands of the Celts. From here, the Aedui may proceed to rebuild their economy and unite Gaul under the Vergobret once more...

Chapter VII: Once More Unto the Breach

http://thelordzgamesstudio.com/images/pics/gergovia.jpg

Ha! You didn't think there was ever going to be peace with the Romani, did you? Well, as always, they continue to molest our new lands, but now, as we have defeated their stacks, we can once again take the offensive, though this time we head for the Roman heartland.

https://img87.imageshack.us/img87/8545/48297221yv7.jpg

The battle is a victory for the Aedui, with 24000 Roman and 8000 Aedui casualties.

https://img410.imageshack.us/img410/7623/35241327sl4.jpg

Dennoros then divides his troops, taking some slingers and swordsmen to help relieve the siege of Segesta, while Iccios besieges the Roman city of Arretium.

https://img410.imageshack.us/img410/4038/42316375uj6.jpg

Alpine infantry overwhelm Principes and Triarii with their finely crafted axes.

https://img440.imageshack.us/img440/8041/11028404db9.jpg

As we take our first step into Italia proper, the Romani are quick to respond. The warband is drawn up, and the slingers unleash a few volleys, but to little avail against the shielded Roman infantry.

https://img443.imageshack.us/img443/7436/82739800bg5.jpg

Before the infantry lines clash, a devastating volley of javelins decimates the Samnite infantry, who have joined ranks with the Romans to defeat the Celtic incursion upon the heartland of Italia.

https://img216.imageshack.us/img216/7424/39374813bg3.jpg

As the Samnites regroup, the Brihentin smash into them, and the Samnitici are sent packing.

https://img216.imageshack.us/img216/476/52735375oo0.jpg

The well-disciplined knights leave the Samnitici to rout and turn to smash into the back of the Triarii, who are soon fleeing with their Samnite countrymen. Some of our Bataroas and Gaedotos salvage cuirasses, which they don as they reform to march against the second wave of Romani.

https://img60.imageshack.us/img60/5589/60569101ko1.jpg

The two lines clash, and a massive melee commences. The Bataroas, after years of campaigning against the Romans, are more experienced than even the Triarii that they face, and they are able to fight off Principes and gladius combat tactics with ease.

https://img159.imageshack.us/img159/369/30987643pr6.jpg

Alpine phalanxes hold consular cavalry in check.

https://img17.imageshack.us/img17/749/95296794pp4.jpg

https://img294.imageshack.us/img294/3622/95519337ip5.jpg

Gallic knights once again smash into the flank Roman infantry, with devastating results.

https://img244.imageshack.us/img244/9407/17527995qy6.jpg

The charge leaves a gaping hole in the Roman line.

https://img205.imageshack.us/img205/4214/60393626ff9.jpg

This gap is quickly filled with Gallic swordsmen, and the Roman line begins to crack.

https://img6.imageshack.us/img6/5072/69888621xl5.jpg

At last, the head of the snake is cut off, and the consular horsemen flee.

https://img517.imageshack.us/img517/8426/74079874ke4.jpg

The rest of the Romani soon follow, and we follow them, but for different reasons.

https://img5.imageshack.us/img5/1145/58086678ya9.jpg

It is a great victory for the Aedui, and the city of Arretium is ravaged by our hungry warbands. Ariminium, too, falls, and, at last, the Eternal City herself...

The Battle of Avaricum

http://warandgame.files.wordpress.com/2008/09/celtic-warriors-2.jpg

With the Romans finally wiped out, we were finally able to turn our attention to our homeland, and with the fall of the Arverni, a new rival arose - the Bituriges. While we were establishing new governments in Italia, they raided Viennos and gained authority over several other tribes. We felt a need to put an end to this uprising, and a mighty force was assembled at Bibracte, before crossing the Dividing River and marching on Avaricum. The commander of the army, Verucloetios, is an experienced soldier, but new at commanding.

https://img19.imageshack.us/img19/2156/23321431.jpg

One of the greatest battles fought in Gallia ever, and surely to be remembered across the eons.

https://img13.imageshack.us/img13/6639/93409457.jpg

From atop the walls, the Biturige slingers cast their stones upon our grizzled veterans. They suffer casualties, but the towers go forward.

https://img13.imageshack.us/img13/2783/34622115.jpg

The ram is left to burn as enemy arrows set it alight.

https://img214.imageshack.us/img214/3896/93166147.jpg

Enemy missiles inflict hundreds of casualties among our ranks, but the towers reach the walls.

https://img11.imageshack.us/img11/4971/79956586.jpg

The first over the threshold are a group of courageous swordsmen, hardened veterans of the Roman wars. These men have fought in many battles, and have earned their many decorations.

https://img408.imageshack.us/img408/7240/96171722.jpg

Surrounded by enemies, the veterans have a tough fight, but fresh troops keep pouring in to reinforce their line. Soon, they have established a firm hold on a section of the wall.

https://img142.imageshack.us/img142/2310/18504986.jpg

Slowly but surely, however, the pressure from both sides whittles them down to a few in number. The walls are slick with blood, and many men slip off.

https://img8.imageshack.us/img8/8286/75069877.jpg

Soon enough, we manage to get slingers onto the walls. These begin to dominate the battlefield below.

https://img23.imageshack.us/img23/7174/19602007.jpg

A force of Hoplitai from the Celto-Hellenic population of Massalia arrives on the scene, just in time to wipe out the forces of levies below the walls. Of the 1000 swordsmen we had sent down there to flank the enemy, only 40 had survived. But they had done their job

https://img18.imageshack.us/img18/3049/34250023.jpg

At last, the gates fall to our brave soldiers! The enemy resistance is finally beginning to crack.

https://img530.imageshack.us/img530/5590/34042184.jpg

Having devastated the enemy Solduros with a barrage of javelins to the rear, Malac and his cohort close in for the kill. Belgae finish off the enemies on the other side of the gate.

https://img17.imageshack.us/img17/1738/70933343.jpg

The last man - quite literally - falls.

https://img401.imageshack.us/img401/5156/81355226.jpg

https://img149.imageshack.us/img149/7273/34027351.jpg

https://img80.imageshack.us/img80/7214/54607996.jpg

While our soldiers parade through the streets toward the enemy town center, I stand amongst the carnage that took place on the walls. I kneel over the bodies of friend and foe alike, and pray to Lugos, before following my comrades off the walls and into the streets.

https://img504.imageshack.us/img504/6135/88310748.jpg

The final charge is made.

https://img156.imageshack.us/img156/5965/58670929.jpg

The Bituriges' leader falls.

https://img4.imageshack.us/img4/1813/24723422.jpg

And the Battle of Avaricum is won.

Chapter IX: To Finish What We Started

https://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b35/Morrigan70/celtic_cavalry.jpg

And one would think that with the head dies the body...no. No, not in Gallia. Here, many serpents are born of one dragon. Though the Bituriges have fallen, the city-state of Burdigala remains firm in opposing our claims to all of Gallia!

"It seems they outnumber us, many to one." - Aquitanian chieftain

These people, though small, were a might group. Having deposed of their old king and his beloved head, the people, by overwhelming majority, voted to instate socialism; equality for all, united under one flag:

http://www.greatwallart.com/cncomflag.sm.gif

Though the traditional free market system of Gaul rejected this idea of "communism," the Aquitani were so desperate to be...noticed. And they got our attention, all right. They invited us to a big party!

http://images.encyclopediadramatica.com/images/0/03/Communism_Is_A_Party.jpg

And we brought our whole army to it, too! But when we showed up, there was no party! There were many, many peasants parading around, perfectly coordinated in large numbers intended to impress us. They didn't.

"What is this, some kind of sick joke?" I called out.

"No. It's an Arirang. Traditional Aquitanian folk festival. We're celebrating the successful revolution from our evil capitalist king."

"You mean he's dead?" asked one of our dignitaries.

"Of course. Don't you see his head on the pole?"

I gave the signal to the Sotaroas - a thousand of them ignited arrows and fired them into the crowd. Mass chaos ensued, and many were burned on the spot. They lost their orderliness and fled for the city walls. In close contact with each other, the flame spread quickly, and the gateway was packed with charred bodies. But the walls were closed shut in time, and we settled in for a siege. Three months later, we were ready to begin the assault.

https://img205.imageshack.us/img205/2134/28841283.jpg

https://img149.imageshack.us/img149/3540/12843381.jpg

The first through the wall were the a group of Hellenes, "Hoplitai" in their tongue. They went into battle wearing linothorax armour and wielding large, round shields, swords, and spears they wielded overhand.

https://img90.imageshack.us/img90/7687/43238792.jpg

As more troops arrived to reinforce the levies, a volley of javelins flew over the walls, causing mass casualties among the enemies.

https://img140.imageshack.us/img140/5862/70477225.jpg

Seeing that their countrymen were in trouble, and eager to prove themselves to us, their new Gallic masters, the Hastati units rushed through the gap in the wall and quickly engaged the enemy from the rear.

https://img527.imageshack.us/img527/6039/60787875.jpg

More Communist volunteers arrive on the scene, with more coming. These hordes manage to drive off some of our Hellenic soldiers, so we call in the archers.

https://img131.imageshack.us/img131/9167/55860654.jpg

Mass javelin and arrow-fire decimates the Communist ranks.

https://img152.imageshack.us/img152/9205/97590790.jpg

Thousands of Alpine axemen engage the enemy, quickly slicing through the enemy lines. In a desperate attempt to save his men, the enemy general and his bodyguard enter the fray, but they, too, are slaughtered.

https://img410.imageshack.us/img410/4431/18067459.jpg

To soften the enemy Solduros up before the final assault, the other maniple of Hastati releases its javelins, sticking them into enemy shields, piercing armour, and bringing the sense of doom on these elite guardians, who have stood vigilantly guarding the town square since the outset of the battle.

https://img520.imageshack.us/img520/7189/44775252.jpg

They put up a valiant fight.

https://img88.imageshack.us/img88/3458/94765523.jpg

But in the end, it is we who are overwhelming them with numbers.

Chapter X: Expeditio ad Iberia, Part I

http://www.incubusdesigns.com/globalnet/sr/images/illustrations/AR/Celtiberians.jpg

After we seized the Communists' capital at Burdigala and slaughtered the commies by the thousands, the Lusotannan, looking to expand their control into the partially Iberian region, declared war and marched an army into the region. Of course, we were quick to respond, and destroyed their army quickly and efficiently, but it was war. We mustered two armies at Tolosa and Burdigala, and quickly marched into Lusitanian territory, quickly capturing the village of Vellika and the trading port of Emporion (a well-named town), but the Iberians were quick to respond as well...

https://img65.imageshack.us/img65/7453/51813052.jpg

Apparently enemy didn't recognize that their javelins could kill their own men, just like ours.

https://img231.imageshack.us/img231/2030/67547071.jpg

Though the shield wall holds the gate, Gallic swords push the Celto-Hellenes back, prompting our general to send more men into the fray.

https://img254.imageshack.us/img254/5541/78969416.jpg

"Hey, no fair! They can shoot at our front AND our flanks!"

https://img124.imageshack.us/img124/913/29447167.jpg

Interlude - The Third Italian Campaign, Part I

Vi sitter här och spelar lite EB

After the taking of Rhegion, the Carthadastoi pressed onwards into Italia, invading Kampanion with a force of 5000 men. The cities quickly raised an army to help the city's defenders deal with this menace, and soon a general attack was organized:

https://img233.imageshack.us/img233/5781/44282863.jpg

https://img182.imageshack.us/img182/9389/90751369.jpg

One contingent of refugee Bruttian infantry was intercepted by an elite squad of Libipuniskoi infantry. Tatqipu! shouted their Iberian officer, and they charged the more numerous Bruttians. The fearsome Libi-Punic troops drove back the Bruttians, who sought refuge among the main force.

https://img233.imageshack.us/img233/998/31154918.jpg

The two forces re-engaged, but this time superior troops from Roma aided the Brettians with a devastating volley of pila in the rear of the Carthadastoi. The Libipuniskoi fought fiercely with axe and spear, but were cut down by superior numbers, cut off from their main force.

https://img178.imageshack.us/img178/9236/93027192.jpg

A contingent of heavy horsemen is cut down by Roman javelins. Artillery shells return fire as the cavalry retreat - Ah! The sky is falling! - but regain order and march up the hill, shields raised to protect from fire - better a shield destroyed than a man.

https://img524.imageshack.us/img524/1632/99540300.jpg

The two sides exchange javelin fire.

https://img233.imageshack.us/img233/5165/31428057.jpg

The alpine axemen wish to end the suffering. The artillery crews offer little resistance. Meanwhile, the Carthaginian horse routs a unit of Italic infantry but another quickly takes its place.

https://img183.imageshack.us/img183/5489/18410742.jpg

The axemen then turn their attention to the spearmen devastating the ranks of the Rorarii. They are quickly sent packing, and all eyes are on the phalanx, which has held out well against the flanking Hastati and crushed an earlier assault. The pikemen make fine swordsmen as well, but crack after they are finally surrounded.

https://img529.imageshack.us/img529/9827/77383339.jpg

A costly victory, but the people of Campania are once again safe from the Mediterranean menace. The people of Italia vow to wipe the Carthadastoi off their beautiful peninsula, and free the Brutioi from their grasp. For his brave leadership in the thick of battle, Captain Togodumnos was adopted into the Magistrate's family.
