View Full Version : My general personally killed Pyrrhus, yet no command star?

My Macedonian general personally laid low Pyrrhus after a baffling single-handed siege on Pella.
However, this did not even bother the Epierotes...

It gave no benefit to the general in question...
Is this normal?

There is no trigger in the code for RTW that can tell whether one general kills another.

I thought the general got command stars/experience/traits when his unit engaged in combat?

He does. But it doesn't make any difference, firstly how good the opposing general is or if your general kills that opposing general. Your question did not seem to be about whether your general gets command stars for engaging with the enemy.

It was, although it was via implication.... Perhaps too much so.

I think you ask for too much, IrishHitman:laugh4: Anyway, I bet it was Alkyoneus right? Long live Makedonia!

I had wondered if a Spolia Opima was possible with the RTW engine, but obviously not. Can you tell if a general kills another in M2TW?

'twas indeed!

You could imagine my surprise when I hit the end turn button, went to the kitchen for a cup of tea, and returned to see Pyrrhus in siege at Pella without so much as a second unit to help him.

I had a strong cavalry force in the area and knocked the crap out of him in minutes after routing him to a massive sloping hill beside a lake.

AFAIK, no.

Ha, I know I've played numerous Makedonian campaigns and know Pyrrhos attacks on the very first turn. That's why I always send reinforcements from Demetrias:wink: The Thessalikoi are indeed very good cavalry, I creamed his Somatophylakes with a pincer attack in my current campaign as well. If you like, take a look at my ongoing Makedonian AAR. You can see some stuff there.

Pyrrhus seems to be a particularly vunerable General early on. In the few times I've started a Macedonian campaign ( different versions of EB) I always attcked Pyrrhus's force near Pella. In 3 out of 4 battles I was able to charge my FM cavalry into his bodyguard and every time first casualty was the man himself.

Well, speak of yourself. In my campaigns, Pyrrhos is the last to die, or one of the last.

That depends on which side you hit him on. If you lead a cavalry charge directly onto a stationary generals left flank he almost always dies first because of the charge bonuses.

Actually, Pyrrhus retreated on his first turn, and returned alone.... About 10 years later...
I keep having trouble with sieging the Spartans, and was busy with them and Asia Minor attacks when he popped out of nowhere.

Still, my force in Pella alone could have routed him, but I wanted a nice cav battle.

I'll have a good look at that AAR.

I assume he tends to die so easily because of his 'given to ill-health' trait.. which is imo a good thing for balance considering what a mighty beast he is.
