This is odd. I have never seen it before, and haven't seen it discussed.

In my current game as Byzantium, I have become the vassal of both Genoa and Turkey. It gets them off my back while I deal with the wretched Venetians and prepare for war with the Mongols, plus they both paid me money. I thought you would be automatically out of vassalage with the previous "overlord" (and probably at war with him), but apparently not.

This raises a couple of questions: is there a limit on the number of powers to which vassalage can be given? And does it work in the same way for the AI as for the human player?

Any thoughts welcomed.

Yeah it does, there doesn't seem to be a limit either.

Quite a few threads about vassals in generals already for other benefits of vassals.

In some campaigns I have received hefty tribute from vassals, but in others I got nothing at all from the same factions…though I was a different faction.

I am not sure how it works or why in one campaign you can line them up (the most I have had I think was 9) or why in others you can’t even get a ceasefire without killing them off…

Care to rehash what and why?

Well both of them have now tried to backstab me with a sneak declaration of war, so for much for being nice to your subordinates.

I'm running into the lack of ceasefires in my current VH/VH campaign as Egypt. I am obliterating Venice, Hungary, and Poland, but none of them would even grant a ceasefire straight-up, let a lone giving me money or a province (the ones that have more than 3). Oh well, sacking their cities gives good income until they come to their senses.
