This has become such an annoyance.

Basically the problem is when I tell a unit of mine to chase down and murder a routing enemy unit, they reach them, and come to a complete and utter halt. Clickspamming doesn't work. Nothing does. Horse archers will fire at will at them but not chase em down in melee. Most annoying thing is it's totally random.

Have not noticed any effect of morale/fatigue, however I have noticed it happens more often when chasing routing enemies back to their gates (routing to town square) when they sally forth. Once inside their gates however they chase and murder as intended.

Anyone have any ideas how to :whip: these pacifists into :smash: routing enemies to turn them into :skull:

EDIT: am using EB 1.1 + all fixes on RTW-BI exe. Have played RTW van, BI van, RTR:PE 1.9, and for a short time ExRM and have not noticed it until EB. And no guard or skirmish mode is not enabled.

chasing routing enemies back to their gates
This is your problem. Vanilla bug. You need to keep following them until the gates are opened to let them in, then you can roll over them and capture the gates.

This happens only in seige battles when the enemy is forced by starvation to sally out and attack you.

It's an exploit to chase routing enemies through the gates of their town. In reality, the defenders would keep the gates closed in that situation rather than save their men by letting them in when enemies are hard on their heels.

You should use a ram to batter the gates down, or sappers to bring down a section of wall, in that situation, just as in any town assault situation.

Another cause of failure to pursue is that one or two enemy soldiers have got separated from the rest of their unit. If you can spot any, either try and kill them first or else make sure you pursuers charge in a line that intersects both the main group and any stragglers.
