View Full Version : Epic Cavalry Charges
Have any of you ever had a really epic cavalry charge? I mean, like one that involved over 1000 heavy cavalry smashing into each other simultaneously (and not in a custom battle)?
Please? I have nothing better to do here...

in my sauromatae campaign my full stack of 3 FM's, 5 armored HA, 3 foot achers, and 9 HA mass-charged a full stack Saka Army of 6-7 foot archers, 4-5 armored HA, and 6-7 HA, it was a slaughter, I might've lost 80 men and they lost like 1000
Sauromatae bodyguards are unstoppable, btw.

Human players always win in heavy cavalry duels, it only matters a little if the Human's side are inferior. I had an amusing experience in my KH campaign, when my 800+ (don't remember the exact number) Hippeis and Hetairoi Aspidophoroi fight versus full stack army of Sauromatae cavalrymen... at first I just think to launch a desperate attack into their heavy cavalry flanks with all my hippeis... and I was shocked when most of the Sauromatae routs first after long bogged down hand-to-hand fight (their HA joins the mounted riots too)
I win because the AI is too stupid to let their heavy cavalry drawn their secondary weapons, rather than 6 damage pointy sticks they used to charge...:laugh4: ... both armies are on captains
I charge 5 cavalry units into the flank of a ptolomaian army, killing the army off in a mass rout.
4 units of roman cavalry (2 extraords, 2 equites) routed a gallic line near bononia.

A Seleucid general with some Companions and cataphracts (also some footmen) in the stack, while travelling in the NE corner of the map after a nice pic nic, was suddenly ambushed by the emerging Yuezhi.
However the veteran armoured soldiers of the general were able to butch up a lot of enemies in melee.
In one of my Pahlava campaigns I had a fullstack of 3 FM's 5-6 armoured HAs (Zradha Shivatir and Daha Uezdattae), 2-3 Azad Asavarans supported by a mötley assortement of different foot archers clash with a Saka fullstack of the same nature. After charging the enemy cataphracts I butchered their foot archers and chased down their HA's with my armoured ones. It took some time but I killed them off eventually.
when Sardinia revolted back to Carthage the "new army"(almost only slaves and 2x sardinians) moved out of the safe city walls and(because of lack of archers in Italy) trained a halfstack of Cav^^(and 2x samnites who i had standing arround) and charged them down XD not realy heroic but nevertheless funny^^ and a pleasant source of XP.

I was Romanii and wanted to replicate the Mongol invasions, so I sent my generals all across Eastern Europe and Asia Minor hiring mercs. I ended up buying 1.5 full stacks of horse archers (with .5 stack of generals) and 1 full stack of heavy cavalry lancers. I basically shredded every army that I came across with this force.
Horse archers to soften up the enemy, and charge them when they become weak, or just use heavy lancers to charge the enemy repeatedly.

Every time I fight with a full stack.
I always include at least one other heavy cavalry unit with my general, and it is often more...
Not with EB, but I did used to create a Full stack of Praetorians at RTW and smash small armies :smash:

In my current SP v1.2 campaign every battle I play until, oh, about 230 or so BC will end in an epic cavalry charge. Im playin' Saka, so every FM I've got and whatever cheap HA's I can (barely) afford until I take W India makes up my Army. Saka BGs are freakin' tanks though, perfect for surround-n-pound, pretty much the only way to rid yourself of annoying phalanxes.

I remember my Makedonian Royal Cavalry army (Made mostly of Hetairoi and Thessalians).
I remember ordering 3 Hetairoi units to attack the flank of a cheap Ptolemais phalanx unit.
I remember zooming in on the backs of the phalanx (Not seeing the charging cavalry)
I remember that once the cavalry hit the flank, it was absolutely like a tsunami, every phalanx soldier disapeared from sight, and when the Cavalry moved to attack another unit (The camera remained still in the same place) there were no phalanx soldiers left whatsoever. All dead. That was awesome. An entire unit (120 soldiers) consumed in 10 seconds.
