A Terribly Harmful Name

Hello,

I am playing EB 1.2, Sauromatae, and it seems that some of my female family members randomly get Roman names, instead of the normal ones. Has anyone noticed that? So far, I have a Cornelia, a Papiria and a Traquilina in my Nomad family.

Yes, they have a multitude of Roman names. I think this is because we have no idea what kind of names they would give their women, as there are no records, but don't take that as a fact.

Wouln't it be better to give them Saka or Pahlava names? That would be far more closer than Cornelia et all :P.

Anyway, I didn't know it was WAD. Thanks.

You're right. I didn't realize they had own women names for Saka (there are "Yuezhi" names there as well, basically the Roman ones as far as I can see). I'll post about it on the internal forum. Using the steppe names seems a better idea than the Roman.

Should anyone have Crusader Kings by P*****x I********e, I believe it has a list of female names for the Alans. If that helps at all.

Why did you mask out Paradox? If someone has Crusader Kings it can't hurt to post what they've got, but I fear it is rather far off from our time period. I have no idea how much names have changed there though.

Anyway, TPC thinks Pahlavi names are the best placeholder, so if you care to change that in your installation, Ellenon, you can copy those names from descr_names.txt over the Sauromatae ones. Be warned that it is not savegame compatible though.

That's ok.

And IIRC Alans were the direct descendants of the Scythians and Sarmatians both in language and ethnicity, though the Crusader Kings names were rather too poor and repetitive for them. Well, it's difficult to deal with a culture that supposedly vanished without much in the written record.
