View Full Version : Checking Interest: EBv1.2 PBeM

Well, as promised, I will be dedicating today to remaking the PBeM minimod. I Downloaded v1.2 and installed that, but I guess you have to download and install both :oops:
So, my v1.1 will be done downloading in about an hour with uTorrent at 200-250kbps. After that, installing will take about an hour (:laugh4:), and then I have to dig through the files to make the mod, which should take 10-20 minutes. Then, I have to pray that Tosa is on so I can use the uploader, else I have to use a crappy free one. Fun :clown:
So, to save another 4-5 hours of finding players, I decided to start up a thread here (since I doubt the typical EBer ever goes towards the throne room).
In this thread we can decide what mini-mods/rules, if any, we will be using. Most importantly we can gather the players.
Oh, and this is for EBv1.2 through the BI.exe. Two reasons, 1: If we can't fill all factions AI is much better, 2: My RTW cd is..not on my person at the moment :laugh3:

I personally think force diplomacy is a must for recreating certain things, even with human players. That way, we can give regions and money with ease, as long as no one cheats with it.
Also for rules, I think a 24-hour turn is acceptable. I DO think that you should try to post your turn as quickly as possible.

And don't forget to post what mini-mods/rules we should use. Im currently looking over a few of them.
And as an update, just installed EB up to v1.2 and made it work through the BI.exe.
Now I'm gonna start it and see if I have the same error as last time. If not, I will begin work on the mod, so approx. 30min it should be up in the unnoficial mods section.
Also, as a requirment besides EBv1.2 and BI.exe, make sure that both temporary fixes are installed on your game.

Well, depending on when this starts, I would like to see MAA's City Mod implemented. It hasn't been updated to 1.2 yet, but if it's finished in time...? Perhaps also switch the +4 attack bonus to a +4 defensive skill one for units with light_spear, as I have done for my AAR? (I assure you, that is not a shameless plug. ~;))
Other than that, I have no real suggestions. I am fine with force diplomacy, and think the rule is fair.

Also, I haven't been able to make the mod yet. It seems that even though I installed it right, it wants to act up. As it stands, I can get to the faction selection screen but when I click go it CTDs. Very, very frustrating. So, give me a little longer as I have to re-install everything step by step...
But yeah Celtic, I agree about MAA's mod. I have used that ever since I started playing EB, so we can ask him if he is currently working on it and can base when we start upon that.
As for the +4 bonus swap, I've not looked into it. What benifits does it bring?
Also, I was thinking, what about 0-turn recruitment times? I used those in my recent campaign and it provides a much different experience as opposed to having to wait a few years. Just a thought.

Sorry about the BI thing Methuselah. You know, the majority of people im guessing do not have BI also. So, when I release the mod (which EB is still installing...wtf much?), just start another PBeM. It's easy really, just gotta make sure everyone has the same stuff.

The thing is, the light_spear attribute lowers the defense skill vs infantry by -4, while improves the push effect as well as gives a +4 defensive bonus against cavalry. To make up for that, EB has added +4 to the attack of light_spear weapons.
Changing it is double edged though, it has its good side but also its bad. The good side is that they are correctly compensated when using the spear - the bad side is that they now gain that compensation when using their other weapon too, if they have one. However, since this makes battles last longer as well, I think it's worth it. You could also compromise and give a +2 spear attack and +2 defensive skill or something like that for those with two melee weapons (if their other weapon is a ranged one it doesn't really matter, since they won't be using it in melee anyway, and as you should know, skill doesn't count against ranged attacks). They could also be the exception and keep their +4 spear attack, or whatever. It's up to what you guys think. I'm fine with it changed or unchanged.

Alright good news and bad news.
Good new is MAA has released the new version of his City Mod! I nominate that as a definate to include in our PBeM.
Bad news is I don't know what the :furious3: is wrong with my install. Installed v1.1 and had same problem as before. Then, I deleted the map.rwms. This time, I got a KTM. When I quit the game, it said "dah dah da de dah..cannot find arderine(?) in strings list" or something.
So, I am going to re-download it. Expect the minimod up by tomorrow :sad:
I guess the good thing is is that we still have plenty of slots open to new players.

Update:
Was re-downloading EBv1.1 last night. Left it alone. Came back a few hours later and my internet was only downloading at 20kbps. It was at 21%. To top that off, me trying to fix it crashed the internet, so I just left it alone since it was 2AM and I didn't feel like bothering with it.
Anyway, will be downloading for the better part of today.
If anyone has any reasoning for my bad luck, please share it. Also, if anyone can tell me why after I installed it it didnt work 3 times.

Just out of curiosity, how does a 'play by email' game work, especially with so many players? The premise of it sounds intriguing ~:)
