Is there any situation where you guys use auto_win? Like when fighting levy stacks with good-sized armies composed of "good" units?

I use it when I know that I could win the battle but I get CTD when fighting it on the battle map.

Whenever the inflated number of stars on certain AI generals means that an auto-resolve that I really should win without significant losses would otherwise result in a defeat.

Example: When my SPQR army assaulted a Punic city, the battle screen told me that overall army strength was 2:1 in my favour. The enemy general had a lot of stars. I autoresolved and suffered a crushing defeat - something which definietly should NOT have happened in those circumstances.

That could have happened if the enemy general was that good, otherwise basically all seiges would be won by the attackers easily. He could have used a boundless number of possibilities to turn the odds; seeing as in an auto win the game's restrictions with what you can do don't count.

I'd use it if a battle ended with CTD. But it's not really worth using most of time, because auto_win always produces much higher casualty than in real battles :wall:

I use this in my campaigns only to avoid the defeats with ships (Oh really - 4:1 and a crushing defeat??) and if the battle otherwise will get me a CTD.

Yeah, but for some odd reason has anyone noticed that almost every unit gets experience in auto-resolved battles, and maybe gets ONE in real battles?

I use auto_win when the odds are greater than 3:1 in my favor and I don't feel like fighting the battle, or if I'm getting a CTD after the battle. My units tend to suffer more casualties, but they also get more experience and my generals get more command stars.

I use auto_win when I know I'm going to win the battle, the battle would take a long time to play, and the results would be far from epic. One example is when I auto_win stupid sieges the AI sends against the same town every couple of turns.

I use auto_win pretty damn often. I only fight battles myself when...

-I'm uncertain if I would win or not.
-Big armies involved.
-A decisive/Strategic Battle
-I feel like it

Other than that, I auto_win everything. It just becomes too boring to play the game, when every turn you fight the same stupid stacks compromising of a few units. If it wasn't for Auto_win, I would probably quit the game altogether until EBII.

When I must win or i face distatrous defeats.... especially against a big superpower that send a full stack army every turns when I only had 3 small and nicely swept cities... remember the Hayasdan? I got to resort in auto_win if the Seleukids sent a hell of troops before I could grow up...

*) nb: I only forced to resort in auto_win when I play hayasdan, saka, or pontos... another factions got a fair starting army to play with...:embarassed::dizzy2: so I can play quite fairl...

to prevent piracy, I always group my ship in a one stack fleets...... realistic in my opinion, because one wooden trireme can't take 1800 men in reality.... (:laugh4:)

The secret to Hayasdan is to be able to recruit the Scythian Horse Archers ASAP. They are dirt cheap, and combined with a couple FM's, you will shatter anything the AS can send at you.

I actually restarted my Hayasdan campaign and decided to rely on more infantry this time around. It became too easy, when with 3 armies consisting of 2 FM's and 6-8 HA's, you can take all of the AS lands without a problem :smash:

Use when at least 4:1 and I have no time for real battle. Sometime need to use it to avoid CTD. :skull:
