Hello all,
I have decided to post here and ask for help on an issue that has bugged me for some time now.
For years now, I have loved this mod and played it copiously. When it was finished, I couldn't wait to get stuck in! That is when disaster struck.
See, I quite like the first music tracks that were made for the Romans, Greeks and Eastern factions. However, as soon as I heard the additional tracks added in the complete edition, along with the Barbarian "Horns" or whatever they are, I seriously lost interest in the game. I don't mean this as an insult or disrespect to whoever created them, but I cannot stand them. I love the voices, please don't add this to the bad list from me.
I have tried, unsuccessfully, to mod them out and even mod back in the vanilla sounds and music instead while keeping the new tracks I like. Nothing seems to work.
The reason it has taken me this long to approach you is the fact that I did not want to insult anyone and look like I am ungrateful for all the brilliant work that has gone into this mod. I just cannot like these new sounds and music, and they make me turn the game off minutes after hearing them, while before this I couldn't stay away from EB.
If anyone has a sound mod removing them, or even knows how to just put the vanilla music back in, I would be eternally greatful. And I apologise if this offends anyone.

Can't you just disable the music in-game and run the other music behind the game in winamp or something? I know it's not a perfect system but it ought to work.

I have also been curious about this for a while now.

This would work, but isn't (for me at least) the ideal solution. I think the question can be simplified to this: How do you change/remove the ingame music files?
Offhand it seems like you could rename the track you did like to match the name of the one you didn't like and then move the new one to the music folder. But again, this would not be the preferred solution.

Maybe fans might help, but the team is ecstatic to have that music in-game and believe it is the closest thing to real period Celtic music that anyone today has managed to come up with so far, so you probably won't find us taking time to explain how to dump it. Glad you are enjoying the rest of it though.

Try to scroll the music volume to OFF, when you play the Barbarian factions.... it should solve your problems nicely...:2thumbsup:

Hmm... the music for Barbarian factions especially the Getai and Sweboz are really beautifull at least for me. Moreover, I think I love all the rest of music for every factions.
Cheer for the EB team. :medievalcheers:

Most music is fine... I only have a problem with Romani music. I mean, they lack an epic feel and the "camp" music makes them look hedonistic. Not a good thing when Legio Primigenia and Germanica are about to launch a massive assault and are marching on enemy territory.
I think the Romani battlefield music could also get the Eastern theme as an addition. Isn't really very "alien" to them.

i like the romani music, you hear those battle horns sounding and it gives you a real feel to the battle.
i also love the celtic music. I can't believe you wanna waste it.
You should be able to simply replace the mp3s under the EB installation with some others of your choosing. No other files should have to be changed as long as you keep the same file names.

@bovi
Wow, i didn't notice that before... in sounds directory.... BTW, I just love to copy all these music to my own iPod, so I can hear them when I away from my computer... only for myself I swear... thanks
Anyway, I had changed the sleep-inducing Eastern Music into Rock and Heavy Metals.... it feels weird though.... :laugh4:
The R:TW\EB\Data folder contains a file called desc_sounds_music.txt. This determines which of the mp3 in the music folder are played under what conditions. Just remove the entries to the offending tracks (make sure that every scenario has at least one entry, though, and allways make a back-up).

Wait... The Eastern music is sleep-inducing?
Now I'm not this professional musician, and as far as formal knowledge on musical theory, I know absolutely dick. But I know this much, when I composed those pieces, in particular the battle-pieces, I took it into particular care to make them sound as disheartening as possible. Kârnây bronze horns, big bad drums of all possible varieties, a multitude of other horns, angry chants en masse and finally the Zûrnây flute which I sometimes intentionally use to torture people at work... We're not even talking ten seconds here. We're talking less than half of that before people start cursing me. If anything it shouldn't bore you, it should actually drive you mad. Unless of course you enlisted for some of CIA's audio-visual torture programmes for the pure shits and the giggles.

Yes.... it was, and it was a great and beautiful sheep-counting substitute recipe for me...:laugh4:
I'll feeling sleepy when I play the campaign map with easterners.... the flute and trumpet-whatever, did you play... is... awesome... for... hoahmm..... Zzzzzz Zzzzzzzz Zzzzzzzzzzzz........
Or maybe it was a cultural shock, as I found that your "Eastern" music sounds like "Tajidor, Dangdut, and Gamelan" for me...:2thumbsup:
*) nb: they are genres of traditional Indonesian music. I was used to hear them all the times since I was a child... Maybe equal with your CIA torturing perhaps...:laugh4::laugh4::laugh4::laugh4::laugh4:
Wait... Indonesian music does had a similar some elements with Indian - Middle - Eastern music... so don't be too surprised...

This thread is in danger of being derailed...:laugh4:
Anyway, I like the music and renaming some of the mp3's you don't like shouldn't be that much of a problem, I think.

I love all of EB´s music. Sometimes I still wanna play something different and turn off the in-game music and start up WinPlay. I´ve got the controls for it on my keyboard so I don´t have to alt-tab everytime I wanna change track or aynthing. Bloody brilliant.

You know, this thread has served its purpose. I'm just going to close this before it devolved into people just saying whether they like the music or not.
