View Full Version : Did you replace this guy?
I just noticed an unit which I have jet to see in the campaign on the EB homepage, you know this "night raider". he even pops up rather frequently on the "Welcome" page. Have you replaced him with this guy with the wulfcap(germanic mercenary shock infantry), did he look like that in previous versions?
It's not like I miss the black paint, I'm just confused.
oh, and he's also on one of the concepts artworks with a very telling subtitle^^
thanks in advance

the black paint guy is actually still in EB 1.2, at least as far as I can tell. they're called Skaduganganz:

the picture you saw was an older version of that unit-It was ages ago.
as for wolfheaded, that's an older EB unit (again, iirc, its now gone.). back in the days of 0.81, the germanic units were very different to today's roster; different names, different stats, etc. 1.0 was when the present system came into being, replacing or altering much of the older units. that explains the different units you saw.
interesting that this (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/p/art/EB-art-germanic_warrior.jpg) guy changed that much and now is a skirmisher^^.
thaks.
and the guy with the wulf cap is still in, at least i could recruit him as mercenary.

the old art was done by ex-member Pscyho... although a lot of us liked it, we had to make improvements and it had to borrow the model of another unit to make it in the build... we're happy with the 1.2 tho
no, 'shadow-goers' was a make-do based on a metaphor for Grendel with some legitimacy to the unit, but since having found some great IE related cognate-ness the name was finalized in 1.2 (a cool guy named Swabian originally suggested the 'Wild Hunt' in the name but didn't have the IE cognate to convince me, which i found later)
{germanic_infantry_wodanawulfaz} Woithiz Wāthā (Germanic Naked Fanatic Spearmen)
{germanic_infantry_wodanawulfaz_descr}
Impetuous\nElite\nHardy\nExpert at Hiding in Woods\n\nWoiþiz Wāþā\n(WOI-thiz WĀ-thā, "Possessed Hunting-party")\n\nWoithiz Wāthā, a unit whose name can also mean "Wild Hunt" is a band of unconventional warriors from the eastern fringes of Germania who specialize in ambush. They enhance their zeal and "fury" by blackening their bodies with the help of pitch and natural dyes, then wait until the darkest of night to strike, skillfully choosing the time and place of the battle. They provoke fear deep into the heart of their enemy with the terrifying, shadow-like appearance of an army of the dead, as they charge with wide-eyes, "mad" and foaming at the mouth, naked, screaming at their foes. Any who survive assaults by these maniacal warriors are convinced they are spirits sent from the Otherworld.\n\nThese men are cultists who dedicate themselves to Wāthonoz, war-god of frenzy and slaughter, Lord of Ecstatic Trance. They ritually go into a frenzied state, believing then that they enter the Otherworld and commune with their god while their bodies, possessed by divine spirit, become invincible and impervious to normal weapons, and so do not have need of armor. They devoutly maintain that by dying with honor on the battlefield they might join the ranks of the Heavenly Host, to be able to fight again in the service of Wāthonoz, sitting, drinking and training beside their ancestors in the Hall of the Slain until the Doom of the Gods.\n\nHistorically, Tacitus refers to this unique practic as being used by a particular group known as the Harii, whose name is thought to mean 'Warriors' in their own Germanic language. An interesting coincidence exists between common legend of 'The Wild Hunt,' the Germanic term for 'hunt'(*woi-) and a similarly derived Slavic term 'warriors'(*voj-) from the same Indo-European root (*uei-) 'to pursue.'
Ca Putt, interesting- i haven't seen that art before but I like it ~:) I don't think it was ever an actual unit, aside from the Cherusci swordsmen maybe or the standard sword-possessors... what do you mean skirmisher??
ah that's good to know, anyway you've got that fella quite often on the EB Page: e.g. on the banner (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/i/top_pic.jpg) and on the "welcome" site (https://www.europabarbarorum.com/i/warrior_01.jpg) which is confusing.

I was wondering about him as well. I figured he looked germanic but I never saw him as I was demolishing the Sweboz so I figured he must be a mercenary or something.
