View Full Version : Caesar in 220 BC?

Caesar Salad

Hi. I have a Macedonian campaign going on and it's 220 BC. For some reason, unbeknown to me, the Romans have Post Marian units already. Is this a bug in the script, or is this intentional? The Roman settlement say Polybian reform, but I've notice Legionary Cohorts and Town watch units already.

:inquisitive:

P.S. Yes, before someone asks, I activated the script every turn.

Could you post a screenshot?
But, this is strange indeed.

Could a town rebelling to them spawn these units?

I'm pretty sure it's a scripting error. I noticed the Romans have more than 6 latifundia on the peninsula. The Romans, for the most part, have been unmolested the whole game and have built up pretty fast.

The AI Marian reform appears to be working as designed.

Caesar Salad

Oh, really? Cool! I was getting worried. I have no idea how the Roman AI works. Maybe you could fill me in or something? How do the Roman Polybian, Marian and Augustan reforms work?

This doesn't apply to the AI?

-At least the year 172BC
-Have more than 6 Latifundia built in Italy
-Hold at least 45 settlements
-Fight more than 250 battles
-Have a character that is:
Sharp/Charismatic/Vigorous
Popularis
Consul or Ex-Consul
Has Influence > 2
Has Command > 2
OR
-Conquer 90 settlements.

-Praetor-
12-08-2008, 02:22
This script paragraph also applies to the AI:

;Unconditional AI Reforms
monitor_event FactionTurnEnd FactionType seleucid
and not FactionIsLocal
and I_CompareCounter Romanii_Reform = 1
and I_NumberOfSettlements seleucid > 20

if RandomPercent < 6
set_counter Romanii_Reform 2
terminate_monitor

Judging from your screenshot and your minimap, it looks like this trigger set the AI marian reforms :)

Nice!

Bare with my complete lack of scripting knowledge, but does that mean if the AI Romans get 20 provinces they can trigger the Marian reforms? Thats a scary thought...

MarcusAureliusAntoninus
12-10-2008, 00:32
They can but don't necessarily.

bovi
12-10-2008, 10:49
They have 5% chance every turn to reform once they have 20 settlements, which makes it likely that they reform within 20 turns or 5 years. If they are reduced below 20 settlements again they will stop rolling this random chance, however they will still be reformed if the chance hit before this time.

Centurio Nixalsverdrus

And if they recover and get more than 20 provinces again, will the chance to reform reappear?

When was the AI Marian reform brought into EB. This is the first time I have ever heard of it. I think it is great that that can actually happen.

No.

If you don't know, then don't bother posting. Hey Caesar Salad, there is no unconditional Augustan reform for the AI...

Oh, but you misunderstood me Methuselah. Perhaps my wording and quoting was a bit confusing. What I meant to say by the "No" was that there were no unconditional Augustan Reforms.

No, I don't like McDonald's. I prefer Burger Baron.

Whatever the case may be, it is I who has answered the question. I deserve respect for that. Respect and obediance. As well as a balloon...

There we go again...

*Some Alien BBC-type Nature Show*

"...and now, watch carefully as the thread is slowly derailed and driven off topic by the community of the unintelligent, disorganized Orghas. However, something rustles in the nearby grove. A twig snaps. Very soon we notice a predator arriving on the scene. He stalks the blissfully unaware Orghas who continue blabbering. He crawls under a bush, he slithers near that patch of tall grass, and then STRIKES!!! The mouse starts repeatedly clicking and the keyboard furiously rattles out text as the moderator predator strikes deep and without mercy. He scatters the now-shrieking Orghas and re-institutes his supremacy. To make sure his territory is not encroached on again, he locks it, so no more Orghas can visit the place anymore to resume their mindlesss activities. This concludes this episode of of Nature: Terra, only on Alpha Centaura channel"

Seriously, :focus: or simply not post.

Why do you always want to dispute every small thing, Pontius? We are all one... (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dVR9pD5WdfM&feature=channel_page)

Anyways, back to topic (unlike Pontius), does the AI stand any chance of getting the Augustan Reforms at all?

...Like what? Like Orcs? "...well..." is not especially descriptive. But, that, my friend, is actually the official name of our kind. Whether you like it or not...

Seriously, this name has been used many times before. Alternative is Orghers, although it is much more rare.

Orgher - Some of the few forum-related results in google are a german forum, a Japanese forum, and this forum.

Orghas - usually a mispelling of organs, an epithet for .orgs , or an acronym; this forum was in the results of course.

You made that word up, didn't you?

There are as many results for Sh*ternet Explorer as there are for "orghas forum".

Seriously guys, please stop. It's called visitor messages.

Back on topic: I think the EB team should create a trigger that would allow the AI Romani to get unconditional Augustan Reforms at 27 BC, right when Octavian stepped in as the first Roman Emperor. Assuming that the Augustan reforms will still be around in EB II, which I do not think they should.
