bets on "when it's ready"

The EB Team gets pissed whenever ppl ask these questions. If you'll do a quick search, ou'll find the most popular answer is, "it will be released when it's ready." Now, I hear footsteps. I think it's Foot.

date for v1.0 is 3/5/2010
LDC, we do not like it when you say stuff like that.
The EB Release Date is on 31th of February 2008.

It will be done when it's done. It will not be done very soon.

Could wait even after 2010. :P
Now just take control Baktria in 1.2 :charge:

If we had an answer to give we would probably give it. Nobody, anywhere, knows when EBII will be out, not even the team.

Duke Nukem Forever 1.2 was released last month? How come nobody told me?!?!

Um, no. We prefer to have the slack for problems arising in the release process. Even when 1.2 was a day or two away (I was working on the installer at the time), we didn't say anything but "sooner rather than later" to queries.

Indeed, even when everything was almost completed nobody knew what the release date was for sure. We don't have a definate answer to this question until a couple of hours before the release.

So from all the replies from the team I would surmise that it is at least 6 months from now and probably more like a year? So stop asking the question, they will never tell you, just be patient, it will be well worth the wait.

Yeah, pretty much. We understand people are anxious about it. Many of the fans may be more desirous than the team to see the final product, but until we start getting paid and can quit our jobs or school, things can only go so fast.
So there you have it, fans. The EB Team needs money and women and food. Order doesn't matter just as long as we get all three.

If we pool our resources together we can give you guys 1 and 3. 2 would be illegal, but then again, I am sure the EB team gets plenty of women, they are just too busy with making the game.

Why do people ask questions like these? They are irrelevant. EB II can be released in three months, but it will be a helluva incomplete mod. It can also be released in three years and it will be better than all of the TW games put together. It is not a question of completion. EB II will probably not be fully complete even in six years from now. The first public version of EB II is probably going to be missing huge amount of stuff. More so than in EB I v 0.81. In EB I, the EB team already had half of the work done by CA, whereas in M2TW, almost all of it will start from scratch.
The more time is spent on EB II, the less patches and versions of it are going to be subsequently released. The EB team could have waited much more time to release EB I, releasing it as v 1.0 and not 0.81. I would not ask for any kind of dates, as they only have a detrimental effect.
To pressure EB II team to release a highly incomplete EB II would simply tarnish the Europa Barbarorum’s reputation as being the most complete RTW mod (and the best!). Not to mention, the less time EB team members spend answering silly questions and moderating forums, the more time they will have on EB II

Why do people whine about questions like these? It's as if they want the EB2 forum to be completely inactive until it is released, because any speculation is just completely stupid and a waste of the 2 years of free time we have until it comes out.

Speculation and giving ideas is different from nagging the EB team to go faster, which is what this thread doing in reality.

All this sounds like an excerpt from the movie "The Agony and the Ecstacy" from 1965. :book:
Pope Leo keeps on badgering Michelangelo over the Sixtine Chapel: "When will you make an end of it?!" :whip:

Why do people ask questions like these?
Maybe because they are new to the forum and like 95% of all newcomers to any forum anywhere on the internet have not bothered reading the FAQ. That´s my guess anyway.

EB II.
:jawdrop: NO WAY!!!!!!
but seriously, I dont see whats wrong telling us how far you guys are
but seriously, I dont see whats wrong telling us how far you guys are
Two reasons:
1) In the past even a hint of how look it would take until realize was often interpreted as a promise by overenthusiastic fans, and this led to complaints when the "promised" date was not met.
2) The team doesn't know how long it will take or how far they are. They are probably still busy concepting units, factions and features. You can't calculate how far you are if you don't know what the endpoint is. Also, EB is a big, complex project, which means that things go wrong and thus delay release. Finally, it is a volunteer project, so it's hard to say how much hours will be put in next week, let alone next month.
let alone next... 4 years... (what it took EB1 to be what it is)

Well, I doubt anyone is going to be waiting until it is fully patched to EB1 standard. I think it will take 2 years like EB1 to officially come out with the first version. I am personally predicting December 2010 as the release date.
EDIT: And December 21, 2012 as the release date for the last patch... :laugh4:

Dude, there are so many different EB members all specified within different fields, they can't just decide that "okay, this week we're gonna work on scripting", because then 90% of their guys would have nothing to do.
They work when they can and with what they can, that's what voluntary work is all about.

Kingdoms will allow us to do a number of things in EB2 that we would have liked to have done EB1, but couldn't. These include some rather basic game mechanics concepts, which means a lot of things need to be redesigned from the bottom up.

There's a saying in Sweden that goes "Den som väntar på något gott, väntar aldrig för länge" which can be translated into "The wait for something good can never be too long". I will wait for the release or cancellation of EBII, and until then I will play EB1

I'll be patiently waiting as long as it needs. I know that one day I'll log in to find the announcement that EBII has been released. Ant then I'll maybe get a spontaneuos erection and surely start downloading right away. If it's in 2010 or even 2011, no problem. EB 1.2 with all those sub-mods is VERY challenging for me, and still an endless source of fun!!!
Thank you EB guys for all the work and time you're pouring into this titanic project!

All I'm going to add is that if the world ends in apocalyptic Mayan shenanigans before EBII is released, I'm gonna be pissed.
Besides that... *shrugs* I know how mods are developed so keep up the good work and looking forward to the end product. :)

Hey! It's not just shenanigans! Nostradamus predicted it too! However, for the Mayans it doesn't represent the end of the world, but the end of an era, I think it has already happened something like 4 times or whatever.
Anyways, I agree with that Swedish proverb, seeing as how I recently discovered EB (The wealth of historical information is incredible, right up my alley), I feel it'll keep me busy in the years to come whilst I try to scrounge up the money for upgrading to M2/(In the future) EB II.
So yeah, take your time EB team (Although the most likely occurance is that these guys are going to do their own thing regardless of what we say here), better to wait 3 years, and have the anticipation met with enjoyment, than to wait 2 months, be disappointed, and then wait 3 years anyways while the programmers patch and improve.:juggle2:

I thought concepts really didnt have to be worked on since u guys had a whole game of 'em in EB1... :P There are also faction changes that would have to be redone considering the sources were contrived. But things do seem to be on track with Power2the1 redoing the Gaesatae and most likely other 'Celtic' units to make them historical.

men, believe me to mod a game sometimes is much harder than to make a game.
I spent more than 2 hours so as just to import a unit to another faction that do not have that unit.
I did manage to recruit that unit but after I changed EDU and EDB I got tired of persistant CDTs.
So I leave EDU and EDB alone.
Believe me, data files do not like one who touches them :laugh4:
I am sure that the team can release EB2 even this week but are trying not to make a disappoinment.
So I am sure that you can wait more for a complete one later rather than a buggy an CTDied one earlier.
Surely with near 3 months under our belts another Stele is in the works? :whip:

What would you prefer, MAA spending 5 hours setting up an Stele or spending 5 hours creating EBII?
Both, and not sleeping for 24 hours.
What a silly question! Of course I would rather have him work on a stele!
A stele would give us something to discuss for days or even weeks, and if the cost is getting EB II 5 hours late(:drama1:), then so be it.

Anyways, to sum up this thread, EB2 is a game being made by volounteers who work on it during their own free time with no pay, and who follow no contract or have no set goals in terms of time as to when it should be finished. Stop harrassing the EB Team about how much longer this game'll take. It could take a couple years, or a couple decades.
Let's leave it at that. :dancinglock:
