Playing as Macedonia I've recently conquered three S. Thracian provinces - Serdice, Tylos and Byzantium. In the first 2 provinces I've established type I government. I've checked the recruitment viewer and saw that by building my native MICs I eventually can get access to Elite Thracian Infantry and Agriarian Assault Infantry. I'm building on those troops as good flankers and phalanx killers when I'll fight with Ptolies or AS. But when I've built 2nd level MIC in Serdice and checked the 3-rd lvl MIC I saw that no new units would be available for me. Am I doing something wrong and establishing type I government was a mistake? How can I get those good Thracian units. I see they are available in recruitment viewer from my native MICs, but it looks I can't get them in game.

A quick glance at the rv says that you get no new troops at factional MIC lvl 3. Agrianian is a factional MIC lvl 4 unit, while Elite Thracian need a lvl 4 regional MIC.

I've checked once more. In Dardanoia according to RV I should get Thracian Light Cavalry on lvl 3 MIC and both Agriarians and Thracian Elite Inf. on lvl 4. All this with "Native" option selected. If I change it to "Regional", I get only Thracian Light Spearmen and Triballi Inf. on lvl 4.

Earlier today when I played my Makedonian campaign I checked manually what units I got for each government type in-game, as I always do when I've conquered a new settlement I intend to keep. In type 1 I got Agarians but not Thraikian elites, in type 4 the reverse. I don't remember 100% but I believe that its the same with type 2 and 3. What I do know 100% is that you can get them, though.

My suggestion would be to give the type 2 to Dardanoia, and 3 or 4 to Tylis, because Tylis just has a greater variety of good regional units available.

Well, type I in Dardanoia is finished, so I'll probably keep it, but I'll give type 4 to Tylis because of its Celtic troops. Strange that RV is not giving the accurate info here.

I'm guessing we don't have the same version RV then. Mine has 4 units in Dardanoia under Native MIC: Skirmishers(lvl 1), Levy Phal, Slingers (both lvl 2) and Agrianian (lvl 4). Then there are 8 more in Regional MIC including both Thracian Light Cav and Thracian Elite.

I've thought about it and dl'ed the one that was on EB site again. Turned out it was the same as I already had.

I'm just guessing here, but maybe since it was included in the EB install they haven't updated the one that is downloaded separately.

You can build Agrianians in Makedonia proper as well. So as you are going to upgrade your Factional MIC in Pella (you want Hetairoi, right?), you get your Agrianians "for free". So you could establish a lvl 3 government in Dardanoia and lvl 4 in Tylis. Besides the recruitment it is a good idea to buil lvl 1 government everywhere you can. And you can always tear your government down and build a new one.

In my own campaign, I have built a lvl 1 government in Serdike just from the initial conquest on, whereas in Tylis a made a client kingdom first and built up the regional MIC up to lvl 5, so that I can recruit everything there. Later I established a lvl 3 government, and at the moment I am building a satrapy. It didn't feel right to go from lvl 3 to lvl 1 in one step.

If I can get Agriarians from lvl 4 in Pella, that's good as I'm planning to build it there in any case. As for building MICs and then changing government types, it feels like it's a bug. Shouldn't recruitment be determined by government type you have? So, if you have type IV, build highest level regional MIC and then move to type I, shouldn't your roster be changed accordingly, or you can continue recruiting best regional troops under type I government?

I misread the word 'Agriarians' somehow and thought why would you ever want some 'Agrarian' Assault Troops. I mean - Peasants with pitchforks wearing chain mail?? :inquisitive:

Yes, the one included is more recent (EB 1.1) than the one on the site (EB 1.0). The latter does include the unit cards, but these are even more outdated (EB 0.8).

It used to be like that in EB 0.7, but the upgrade to R:TW 1.5 made this system cause crashes. Now the MIC buildings determine what you can recruit, and the governments determine what MICs you can build. First building the highest level of one MIC and then replacing the government to build the highest level of the other is considered an exploit though, as the EB team would make it impossible if they could.
