I agree with the Paint.net.
I use the Adobe line from Photoshop to Premiere, and I still keep paint.net on my desktop for occasional kicks. Its versatile and user friendly. For freeware its great.
But then again, I also like to play around with MS paint sometimes too, mainly because it makes it easy to break down images into a 16 color scale (and then even less), which is helpful when designing lithographic or screen prints.

I recommend Gimp. It's advanced, and easy to use. Served me well for years. :yes:
