May I take this opportunity to express my gratitude to all patrons of the Backroom for your contributions this year. Our debates may occasionally stoop into embarrassment, but much more often soar to challenging, fascinating and learned heights, of an overall standard that is both inspirational and humbling. This is a community like no other, and I count it an enormous privilege and great honour to be noted among its members.

I wish you all the very best of times, whatever the cause of your celebration. For me, it is Christmas, and the sentiments of that season - peace, community, reflection, wisdom and new, limitless beginnings - are those I wish for you all. I shall raise a glass to each of my friends here (any excuse for another whiskey :wink:) and may happiness visit with you all of your days.
