... How does one rate a thread? So few people rate threads. Is it for mods only or something?

I believe only staff members can rate threads, yes. (Possibly senior members as well? I don't think so, but I honestly can't remember.)

Staff and CA members when they post in a thread, I believe its automated to give it a 1 star rating, which is the CA shield symbol.

It's not automated, at least not for me. If someone from CA posts in a thread, I have to manually rate it with the CA shield.

I always wondered why a couple of threads had a few stars but no others did. And now I know :beam:

Good question, Methuselah.

I also wondered who was responsible for the little CA shield, it's a badge that shows a thread is truly going places (sometimes anyway).

Meh. The 3 word story thread has, quite fittingly, 3 stars. Interesting. Thanks for the info, guys! Sorry, but I won't give you any balloons. Instead, you can have the hunger for a balloon, a hunger which will haunt you in the night and drive you insane during the day. Enjoy! :laugh4:

Ah Martok, the woes of power. I guess we should get back into the stables...my back is killing me though.

Perhaps we need some fresh recruits...

couldnt you make all members able to rate threads? I'd rate them, and it gives the threads starter something build on by getting various opinions

You'd have to ask Tosa about that. My guess, however, is that only staff are allowed to rate threads because otherwise it could very easily degenerate into a popularity contest and/or cause bad feelings among members.

Also, rating threads is (at least IMHO) more of a tool than anything else. I won't speak for the rest of the staff, but when I rate a thread, it's because I think it's particularly interesting, useful, entertaining, etc. I don't necessarily rate a thread because I "like" it per se, but because I feel it's worthy of particular attention for one reason or another. ~:)

Hey Martok, I'm pretty senior-ly, aren't I? :clown:
