Great Romans, for centuries the Campus Martius has been used to assemble Rome's armies and militia. Let us honour that tradition.

https://i190.photobucket.com/albums/z132/mstgnymike/BtSH-3/Campus_Martius.jpg

Here is where young unappointed Tribunes and Legatus' post their desire to join a certain legion. All avaliable Legions will post their name, strength and officer count. Each standard legion will take 1 Legatus or Dux as commander and a maximum of 2 Tribunes as junior officers. Legates without a legion may also your for a certain time with any legion; however they are not included in the Legion's lists of officers. Candidates will be selected for their personal accomplishments or potential. However, Rome is fickle, and it is not unknown for bribary and favours to open up the doors to the legions. If they play their cards right, unappointed Tribunes may find themselves replacing old Tribunes if their guile overrides the commander's honour. Rome is a dangerous place of politics and greed, and what better place to represent this than the Legions; the gateway to promotion and higher standing in the greatest city on earth.

The Campus Martius will also have posted the current position of each legion as updated as possible. This will help newly appointed staff to quickly find their destined legions.

(OOC: Basically, this is where players with the ranks of Tribune or Legate, that do not currently have a legion to serve under, post to join. Only post to request to join; leave all other comments out please. Candidates may be expected in their post their choson legion, why they think they should be able to join, and how long they wish to serve.) If all legions are full, Tribunes or Legatus' still unassigned may work against those in the legions, maybe attempting to take their place through guile and backstreet diplomacy. However, if found out, severe punishment is expected. Would you dare?

Since there is no Tribunus, I wish to join Legio II Latium , if I may.

Some of the reasons I already brought forth in the senate. If the Legatus wishes to hear my reasons in detail, i will accommodate his request with pleasure.

Legatus Cotta, I also wish to apply to your Legion. I have had disputes with you in the Curia but if you do choose me I wish to bring those differences no further. I am in Arretium and will be able to join up at any advance towards Bononia or Segesta. Although all these other Tribunes made the long walk down to the Campus Martius I did ask for a place in the Curia for a while. I just hope you consider this application. If you wish to hear any more of my reasons I'm sure my horse can bear me to your Villa.

Asina walks out of his office in the Campvs Martivs after disappearing for a few hours.
apparently, he was settling some logistical issues regarding supplies for Legio I Apulia and was bogged down by some red tape so he was delayed and could not join Legio I Apulia the season.
After flicking through the files of Legio I Apulia's officers, he decided to take a temporary break from his bureaucratic tasks.

"I noticed that some of you Tribuni have yet to join Legio II Latium and one of you would not get the chance to do so; do not worry as there shall soon be another opening in Legio I Apulia. However, I would expect that Tribuni who join legions would take their training seriously and excel in it; as it is supposed to be a testing ground for aspiring leaders."

OOC: yes, I know I said I was going to sleep in my consul's report, but I can't sleep dammit :furious3:

No really, I do have an update.

All the interviews have been conducted, and been responded to. I have my two personal choices, but I am waiting on conformation or differences in opinion from the Dictator and the Consul of the Legions, seeing as these are my immediate superiors and will ultimately be in charge of myself and the tribunes chosen.

Legio II Latium Tribunes announced!

Congratulations to Titvs Valerivs Maximvs and Appivs Clavdivs Nero on their appointment to the Legio II Latium! Appivs Clavdivs Nero will serve as my second in command, due to his past experience in the battle line, and Titvs Valerivs Maximvs will be my third.

As for Avlvs Aemilivs Mamercvs and Caivs Aemilivs Mamercvs, I am truely sorry that you did not make it into your first legion by choice. There were a number of reasons and these have been discussed between myself and the dictator, and believe me when I say that it certainly was a very hard choice, with my decisions changing constantly. If you would like confirmation as to the final decision, then you can send me a message which I will gladly respond to.
However, I have made it clear that as soon as Legio III is approved to be trained, that I will fight for your right to be appointed second and third tribunes in that legion together. Or, due to whatever circumstances, if placement arises in the Legio II, then you will have a guarenteed place. I hope this soothes over any sore spots and that our mutual support and friendship can continue.

To Titvs Valerivs Maximvs and Appivs Clavdivs Nero, I expect you both to travel to the Legio II Latium immediately to take up your posts.

Legatus Caivs Avrelivs Cotta, Legio II Latium

"Attention:

A tired, visibly testy, and dust-covered, well-dressed man enters the center of commotion at the Campus Maritus. He looks about hastily and not immediately seeing what he wants he grabs a young soot-covered errand-boy, possibly an armorer's apprentice, by the arm as he trots by. The youth looks up in indignant anger; but knows better than to say anything. After a brief exhange of words and a quick arm thrust out to point the direction, the man releases the boy who nurses his sore arm while he runs off in the direction of his errand, looking back all the while at his assailant. When the newly arrived man has his back turned, the boy sticks out his tongue and disappears into the commotion that is the Campus Martius.

The well-dressed man of approximately 30 years walks over to a message board, covered in various writs and messages on both velum and papyrus. He scans the parchments, and slightly dissatisfied removes his seal and signature kit, resigning himself to a tour of hardship in the military. He focuses his attention on one writ in particular mentioning the proposed creation of a Legio III from an area yet to be determined. Reading further he sees that the proposed legion will be created after the current campaign in the north to bring Bononia and Segesta into the Roman sphere of influence is completed and funds are available.

The young man dabs his stylus into the small bottle of ink he keeps in his seal and signature kit and affixes his name to the parchment,

"I, Tribunus Tiberius Claudius Marcellus, being of sound mind and body do hereby request to be appointed a position within the soon-to-be-created Legio III of a region yet-to-be-determined for a tour of service of unspecified length. I have studied with Greek officers in Taras during the reign of the Molossian and am accompanied by one at present. Hereby affixed is the seal of the gens Claudia, attesting to my honor.
T. Claudius Marcellus"

The young man dipped his signet ring into the vile of ink, sighed heavily, and blotted his family seal under his signature. His shoulders sagged under a sudden invisible burden, he turned away from the parchment and walked away, appearing to be looking for someone.

I, Avlvs Aemilivs Mamercvs, hereby also request to be appointed the position of Tribunus in the new Legion that has to be recruited, and thank Legatus Cotta for his intercession for me and my cousin. Never will I forget this favour.

Should I be appointed, I will also bring my rentinue with me, which includes a Chirurgeon and an Armourer and which will be in the full service of the Legion.

well the good thing is that because Imperial Legions march with royalty and the best, up to 3 tribunes can come along with them.

An older man of about 50 years walks up to the message board in the center of the commotion that is the Campus Martius. He bears white scars from ages past on his arms and legs, his salt and pepper hair beginning to lose the battle against a tanned pate. His tunic boasts a pattern along the hem of Greek design, and he maintains the bearing of an officer, though not in uniform.

A quick yet thorough peruse of the board reveals nothing of interest. Marcus Claudius Marcellus Kalamatopouli strides off in the direction he came to bring the lastest news to his master.

An officer appears out of nowhere...

Due to recent mix ups and temporary misplacements of certain documents, it may take a little while to decipher the different commanders and tribunes of the legions. Hopefully this will be done soon.

OOC: Basically because Asina died and there are so many previous tribunes now turned legates we havent sorted out whos who and wheres what. May have a wait a while for it to be sorted out. Bear with it.

"You withdraw your application? May I ask what for? Legio I needs Tribunes, and regardless of your abilities, it seems we have to settle with what we can get." He sighs. "With that I do not mean to imply that your skills are anything but the very best, of course; only that since there seems to be a drought of tribunes, especially ones confident enough to sign up for the first legion, it wouldn't really matter if they weren't.
