View Full Version : Favorite Liquor
Mine would have to be Goldschläger. I tried this stuff over break with my friends and I honestly can say it was the most delicious liquor I have ever tasted in my life. I don't usually like the taste of straight hard liquor, but i was pounding shots of this stuff (its around 44%) with no chaser or problem.

My sister bought this once. I tried some, nearly lost my supper. Vile, vile stuff. Unfit for human consumption. Vodka on the other hand is very nice. Mixed properly ofcourse.

One kick:daisy: bourbon, but suprisingly smooth, especially considering its high proof and the fact that it is brewed and aged at what I am led to believe is an unusually low proof (108) for commercial bourbon, thereby rendering a much stronger-tasting bourbon. It's really better if you add a little water first, though, because what you get is still VERY strong, both in flavor and proof, and it will kick your :daisy: all over the place if you're not careful with it. A wonderful-tasting bourbon, regardless.

Scotch - particularly Islay.
Two favourites: Ardbeg Uigeadail and Lagavulin 16y

Try one of the Islays (starting with regular ones then perhaps cask strength) - most people I know were surprised how different they are from the regular blended Scotch brands or the "popular" single malts (e.g. Glenfiddich) and started to love the very strong and peaty taste.
Even Mrs Clegane likes the taste of it and takes a sip from time to time (she would not have more than a sip as she actually does not drink liquor at all)
A while ago, I discovered this gem called Mandarine Napoléon (http://www.mandarine-napoleon.com/index_en.html).
It's a very sweet liqueur and both my wife and I absolutely love it :2thumbsup:

Hey, I'm not the one drinking antifreeze in a whisky bottle. :jester:
Peppermint Schnapps. Tastes almost as good coming up as it does going down! Leaves your breath minty fresh! :2thumbsup:
Vodka is pretty much the only hard liquor I'll drink these days. Never could get used to Scotch/Bourbon/Whiskey, too many bad experiences with Rum in college. Tequila is OK, in small doses, Gin is hideous. The schnapps and various other types of liquors like Baileys, Goldschlager, Jager, et al. are drinkable, but can't be considered utilitarian enough for regular consumption.
jack daniels, where saving penny's came out good. Instead of having a whole new barrel made to age the whiskey/bourbon, they burn the insides of the barrels to sanatize them, this in turn gives it its unique flavor and appearance

I have a rule about brown liquors. They are best used for a disinfectant. As that is what they taste like. :smash:

Moonshine in the more tradition reference of the word was made of Methanol (as opposed to Ethanol) and is toxic; possibly making you blind and/or killing you. Now thats when you know you are a true heavyweight.

Actually, it's vodka that tastes like disinfectant... specifically, rubbing alcohol.
Yes, I am very self-righteous about my liquor. But it's okay. All you scotch and vodka-drinking savages and heathens can have all the awful liquor you want... just don't touch my bourbon.

Whiskey of any sort as long as it is high quality stuff.
Well actually to be honest I haven't had any lower quality whiskey in anything but a mixed drink so I can't pass judgement on those.

Well i was mostly refering to its homemade nature
Its doubly distilled so its probably ethanol ....maybe...in theory...

:juggle2: Hmm...vodka or bourbon? I can't decide.
My all-time favorite drink is Scotch, specifically Macallan 12 year old. That stuff is heaven in a bottle. Although it has gotten freakishly expensive lately ...

Touche, but I stand by my words. I don't know, I probably have weird taste buds as I detest vodka, rum, or any of the hard liquors that I've had straight. Then again, I should probably try drinking better stuff than Captain Morgan.

I cannot stand Captain Morgan. Too sweet.
SFTS, I've had Whiskey but I just don't like it much. I really like my alcohol to be only burn. That's why I like vodka and that's why I like Bacardi rum. I don't really get a taste for either of them.
Granted, this is for drinking straight.
Mixed drinks to have slowly etc. is a totally different story, but I have little to no experience with that, so I wouldn't know.
Wodka is only good for mixing, use it to make bloody mary's. Half-wodka, half-tomatoejuice, tabasco en lemon.
Yummie.
Oooh burn :laugh4:

Not in my experience, women prefer coolers. Of Vodka or Rum. I actually like vodka Martini's quite well. At the parties I've gone too the women brought coolers, or beer. The men brought a bottle of booze for mixing. And in one unfortunate case Saki. I have no idea how the Japanese drink that stuff.

Drinking any liquor straight means you want to get drunk. Mixed drinks are actual sensory experiences. I've never enjoyed drinking anything straight. I even water down wine with lemon lime pop.

Not true at all. Drinking one whiskey straight does not mean you're trying to get drunk. That's just a logical fallacy.
Drinking anything in large quantities means you're probably trying to get drunk, not what you are drinking itself.
EDIT: Unless you count nasty cheap booze, or straight Everclear and the like.

In my experience people who just want to get drunk always go for mixed drinks. Add enough sugar and the taste of the alcohol is barely noticeable.
I have seen people take shots to get drunk (although even then half the time they're mixed with some disgustingly sweet liqueur ), but then they're just avoiding the taste of the alcohol again, this time by drinking it quickly.
A good martini or glass of scotch, on the other hand, is meant for sipping. Someone can get drunk drinking them, but it's not the easiest way to go about doing so.
That, sir, is cruelty against wine
I believe my father would refer to that as alcohol abuse. :clown:

If you want to try a good rum go for Havana Club 7 year old. Ludicrously drinkable straight or mixed. It is twice the price of Captain Morgan's, but as they say you get what you pay for.

I tried some Rittenhouse Rye whisky recently, and I now have to add it to my favorites list. The flavor is much mellower than bourbon, with no noticeable burn, although the flavor was also much milder and less full than Bourbon. It's a better mixer whisky than a straight drink, I think; I found out almost immediately that it mixes very well with an equal amount of Canada Dry ginger ale.
Highballs, anyone?

Goldschläger is pretty good, but only for the novelty...imo.
I tried something called Captain McGillicutty or something - it tasted like Listerine and has a very small amount of alcohol. I sorta liked it.
Can't go wrong with rum. I like rum. Rum is good.

Don't know if it's considered liquor, but I like Campari, discovered thanks to an italian ex.
And Pastis, of course ! :eyebrows:
Good Raki [Turkish]/ Ouzo [Greek] go well after a decent meal.
Good Whisky [I am not an expert, but my friends know their way around] is an awesome drink for a decent conversation, e.g. about history.
Mixed drinks: Cuba libre with Havanna Club Rum & Campari with Organge juice.
Bavarian style is "Blutwurz". It comes in shots and hits you like a warm breeze in the head...after one or two of them...afterwards well.....

Vodka. Not too smooth (:p for you Goose fans), it needs a little edge. Smirnoff blue label is about perfect. Doesn't much need to be cold either.
I don't drink anymore. I like the stuff a little too much.

Not a particular fan of any strong spirit when not mixed. Straight vodka can be all right if your in the mood when served chilled and over ice. I don't mind Glendronach either but I find it makes me incredibly tired so if I'm out socialising I'll try and avoid it.
For mixed drinks it would have to be a White Russian. Substituting the cream for some milk of course. Another choice and favourite would be a mojito.
I'd obviously prefer cider or lager over cocktails or straight spirit drinks any day but if were choosing fancy drinks and spirits here ill go with that when im in the mood.
