I have just been looking and was wandering, they mention Europe, America and the Indies but nothing about Africa because if you have the indies wont you have to go round Africa and didn’t they start trading (er slaves?) and colonising in this time and as for Australia im not quite sure is it part of the Indies? Wikipedia says not.

Australia isn't considered part of the indies and unfortunately won't be in the game.

As for Africa. North Africa is in the game, just like in previous games. The game will deal with sailing around Africa by having 'transition zones'. The idea is that you sail a ship to a certain area and after a while it appears in a different part of the map.

First you send a ship to the Canary Islands, then to the Ivory Coast, then to Madagascar, and then on to India.

Aside from that I don't think any more of Africa will appear in game. Maybe an expansion will feature it more?

There seems to be a box (for lack of another term) for the Spice Islands. I wonder if there are others for China the Philippines and others?

I doubt China will be featured at all.

Personally I am hoping that one of the first mods to come out for Empire will be one adding South America, Africa and Australia to the campaign map (and maybe South East Asia too, although China and Japan may be a bridge too far). Hopefully simply adding large swathes of land to the campaign map will be easier this time around, especially since CA have announced there will no longer be an upper limit to the number of provinces.

Oh, for a nice spiffy WYSIWYG campaign map editor to be included with the game!

A campaign map editor will make it so much easier for people making new campaign maps, and no hardcoded province limit sounds great as well.

What I was talking about were the Trade Theaters! If it is only a transitional zone, then why not have the trade areas.

Japan was withdrawn and not really trading but China was. Spain held the Philippines. I was just wondering if there were others already there. We didn’t hear about the Spice Islands until just a bit ago. We just don’t know what is there yet and what we can or cannot add.

I hope you are right about more areas appearing as trade theatres. We can only hope (or hope that trade areas are addable via mod).

I do hope it is possible to mod in the rest of the world. This was the time-period when world wars began to take shape. It would be a shame to deny that in a Total War game.

Depending on how easy it will be to add new landmasses this might be possible. :beam:

Don't forget though, new land means new factions, new units, new architectural styles etc. A mod that added in Africa, Asia and South America would be a heck of a lot of work. It would take a vert talented modder or team to do it well.

It would be the best mod ever though. :laugh4:

I hope they come out with a Kingdoms-like addon that centers on Asia and the Great Game between Russia and the British.
The 19th century would've been boring without it ;)

Actually the biggest effort in colonization of the african continent starts in mid/late 19th Century(Specially after the Berlin Conference in 1884-85), but there are cities founded as early as the 16th Century...not counting with already exhisting cities being conquered and controled by europeans.
