Just thought I'd post a thread asking everyone what their favourite game soundtracks are.

I personally loved both Fallout 3 and Bioshocks soundtracks, they really captured the sort of pre 1960's feeling really well.

I liked Mass Effect and perhaps the first or second Tombraider and MAFIA.

I second the Mass Effect soundtrack. Also thought the Company of Heroes 'track was really good. Always liked orchestra music and listen to some tracks from EUIII, Victoria and Cossacks II.:grin3:

I regularly listen to both the Deus Ex and Fallout 1/2 soundtracks, those were well worth the money. The Brotherhood of Steel background music is my favorite of the FO series (love those air raid sirens), and go ahead and make fun of me but The Synapse (Hong Kong ambient) is my favorite from Deus Ex. I also have the Diablo 2 ambient music which I very much liked. The Mechwarrior 2 game also had wonderful music that I feel was frequently overlooked for it's time. Mass Effect also had great music. I'm finding that I very much like the Final Fantasy 7: Crisis Core music as well.

Those were the ones that came to mind immediately.

Total Annihilation and Warlords III had fantastic soundtracks.

I think Command and Conquer must've been one of the first with a proper movie-like soundtrack? It had that Mechanical Man song! :laugh4:

And I'll put in a word for Evil Genius, just for its OOT bombastic main menu music.

Command and conquer red alerts soundtrack was great. The whole hell march opening sequence, I think that's what the song was anyway.

Halo series: CE, 2 (withouth the pop stuff), 3.
Medal of Honor series: Medal of Honor, Underground and Allied Assault.
Command & Conquer series: I love what Frank Klepacki did there. Excluding the Tiberium Wars which has horrible sondtrack. Generals has awesome soundtrack clearly influenced by the Black Hawk Down film.
NHL series: 96-99 PC versions.
Total War series: All of them, except Shogun which is too lazy.
Rainbow Six series: From Raven Shield to Vegas 2 pretty much.
Silent Hunter series: III and 4.
MGS series: Metal Gear Solid, Sons of Liberty, Snake Eater and Guns of the Patriots.
Hitman series: All of them, Kyd is one of my favorite gaming composers.

Emperor: Battle for Dune
Mass Effect
Freedom Fighters
Call of Duty 4
Dead Rising
Universe at War
World of Warcraft
Perfect Dark Zero
Operation Flashpoint
Company of Heroes
Army of Two

Ghost Recon series
Gears of War by Kevin Riepl
Gears of War 2 by Steve Jablonsky
Armed Assault
Fallout 1 & 2

And many, many more!

Original score of the year for 2008 was either Gears of War 2 or MGS Guns of the Patriots.

Music in games, game scores and soundtracks are still ignored heavily for example in reviews for some reason.

Final Fantasy VII and IX had awesome soundtracks.
Eternal Darkness soundtracks are in my Ipod just for the freak factor.

Baldur's Gate. The main theme is quite possibly the greatest musical score for any game. The Morrowind main theme follows shortly behind.

Alright mate long time no see or speak. Everything is good thanks. How's things at your end? Hope everything is going OK with the lady and life's treating you well. Hopefully it's all sound.

I would have to concur with your choice of the halo soundtrack . Shame the game never quite lived up to it. ~;)

Anyway go right ahead with the add it will be nice to catch up with you after all this time.Take care mate.

Soul Reaver. Ozar Midrashim (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=126HmI5xPzs&feature=channel_page), the intro music, was fantastic.

And I've never been able to shake the Dungeon Keeper Intro (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8N5ODEGR1KQ).

There's been mention of Baldur's Gate (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZP7vWiaxw7Y), Morrowind (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnmcDJhKvFw), The Witcher (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HoBW1VLJzds&feature=related), and Deus Ex (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZU6XyFxCA0&feature=related). PLAY! A Video Game Symphony (http://www.play-symphony.com/)

I went to this about a year and a half ago and it was excellent. I very much encourage people to go, as it's a lot of fun. The upcoming venues are in Copenhagen, Stockholm, Oslo, Dayton (Ohio), and Winnipeg.

Yes, the original Baldur's Gate Main Theme is quite good, pity it's a shameless ripoff of Basil Poledouris' "Anvil of Crom" from Conan the Barbarian...

Baldur's Gate Theme...

Anvil of Crom. This version is especially fun, it sports Mako's voiceover that opened the film...

For originality's sake I prefer the main theme to Baldur's Gate 2...

Age of Conan and GTA Vice city easily takes the price for me.
Age of Conan for that the music fits the game perfectly(mean really, it's spot on) and Vice City is well it's just so damn cool.

For modern feel: Hitman series

For nerdgasm musical experience: World of Warcraft

Though I have few tracks I like in other games such as MTW for one, I can't think tracks I don't like in Hitman series and WoW.

Fable II

Such a moving track, it conjures up images of thick fog, slowly lifting to reveal a magical and vibrant world before you, ahhh....

MTW offered a far greater sense of musical pleasure than did M2TW, whereas the original had a hard and barbaric feel to it and an intense tempo, the latter offered a light hearted medley of "Dracula" organs and "aaahahahaaaa, aaaahaaaaahah" desert music, so meh...

Alright, time for some Youtube links as well.

Heroes of Might and Magic 5 Main Theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmUfc7PpOco) :
Awesomely epic.

Eternal Darkness - The Gift of Forever : (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JC13_TlBaRw)
Not too bad. Probably my favorite ED soundtrack.

Final Fantasy 7 - One Winged Angel Orchestral Version: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEx0z6jpe-s)
The most awesome video game soundtrack ever. Period.

Magic and Mayhem - Celtic 2 (by Afro Celt Sound System): (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4RxmW7VIgFg&feature=PlayList&p=2ACCE6F35DA1B5EA&playnext=1&index=17)
6:35 of pure melody  - The complete ears kicking starts at 2:50.
Oh god how much I played this game...I even tried it somewhat successfully to create a W3 mod based on it. I'll probably try again with W4 :D

Final Fantasy IX - The Place I'll Return to Someday: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCgiriMwUJU)
FFIX main theme and best soundtrack with Loss of Me (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMa-Z4-RqIU) and Kuja's theme (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qcWqhzgseI4). One of Nobuo Uematsu's masterpiece.

Command and Conquer - Red Alert - Hell March: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb-gI_pFog0)
The first version was completely made of win. Call me old fashioned, but Red Alert 3 version is not nearly as cool.

Empire Earth main theme: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=plEN8IFZxZY&feature=related)
A bit old, but nice nonetheless.

Warcraft 3 - A Call to Arms: (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CNVomngq-Qc)
Usually, Blizzard is quite bad at making soundtracks, but this one is actually quite nice.

Dawn of War - Adeptast Sororitas Theme 1 : (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=19fUwwz2OKE)
Actually, this is not an official DoW soundtrack, but was released with the mod Adeptas Sororitas. It perfectly fits with W40K and the general Sisters of Battle idea IMO.

That's all I can think of right now. I would put more songs from HoMM (mostly, Haven and Necropolis Theme, because the first one is awesome and the second is a parody of it, and Campaign - Stronghold because it feels epic), but I can't find them on Youtube.

Love the Radio on GTA games, although not sure if that counts as Soundtrack,

MTW, especially at the start of battles as the drums get louder

I have to say the music from the Company of Heroes games, especially Opposing Forces, is pretty damn good. The main theme used in both games really stirs the blood and is quite catchy but the Armored Assault piece in OF stands out as an especially fine track. Inon Zur & Ian Livingstone are credited with the soundtrack for Opposing Forces but I believe the talented & ubiquitous Jeremy Soule did the main theme track for CoH & CoH:OF (and perhaps a few others in the series).

I also loved the soundtrack to the Dawn of War series, so much so that I used apps that let you rip the audio tracks from the data files, converted the files to mp3s and then loaded them onto my mp3 player where they've resided for well over a year. Once again, Inon Zur is the composer.

Assassin's Creed - Spirit of Damascus (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDzF28LcIGA)
It sounds better when you're on horseback on the mountaintop, gazing over the wondrous city as Altair.

MGS4 - Father and Son (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMgGkmVjeso)
Simply epic, fits the ending and leaves you begging Hideo Kojima for another game like this one.

MGS OST (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyE0UabtLn0)
Same as above, I would kill for that rumored movie to come out.

These are the only ones I could think of right now, they're definitely unforgettable when played with the games.

Dawn of War in my oppinion had the best music and the Inquisition: Daemon Hunt mod.

My favourites, all old school games (listening with headphones really enhances these tracks):

Icewind Dale's Main Theme (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=i381VcMpoMQ&feature=related), Easthaven Theme (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=w6WhjqYst4s) and Kuldahar Theme (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=9y96Y2JE5F8&feature=related) (excellent!). It's one of the few games where I don't skip the intro (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=YNFFimIbEvk&feature=PlayList&p=E9FD2D1F173ACEF2&index=2). Despite the game not being as good as Baldur's Gate, I much preferred the music!

Diablo (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=wU9TN4CTAJ0), the theme inside Tristram is so hauntingly beautiful.

Gothic (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=pZLvYRNsJGU&feature=channel_page) and Gothic (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=rYrrLnWtX9g&feature=channel) II (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=wuGXw4hIA5M&feature=PlayList&p=966C10E031DEC0D4&index=7).

The Brotherhood of Steel background music is my favorite of the FO series (love those air raid sirens)
Agreed (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=F0yTxs8GfoQ&feature=related), that song captures the essence perfectly, Fallout 1 had some wonderful music. No other game can evoke such depression (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtBgcnV8Ztw&feature=related), emptyness (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=UpgphEhyYNs&feature=related), tension (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=T6suxMoU7_M), loneliness (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtB8bL6NAL4&feature=related), desolation (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=YAEHVtqM8go&feature=related), heartlessness (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=YJL2AXYVqEA&feature=related), despair (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=4JAOM9d8ghc&feature=PlayList&p=0095E406D6D3C700&index=10), hopelessness (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=Y5RsgMo_i3A&feature=PlayList&p=0095E406D6D3C700&index=14) and fear (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=kwjxvBqs1EA&feature=PlayList&p=0095E406D6D3C700&index=0). Sigh...

From Fallout II I love the riff in My Chrysalis Highwayman (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=8CsLYRViuEc&feature=PlayList&p=16DB6D732857DF2D&index=17).

But, taking all of that into account, this (http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=9QyQ9PsOj6A&feature=PlayList&p=C8BCCCBD0D715BBE&index=3) is what sums up my childhood.

Off-topic, but they better not mess one inch with the plot of this game for the movie, otherwise I'll financially support any attempt to kill the producers. >_>
