So, I was playing Rome last night (since I have that extra month to wait now and quite easily I won a heroic victory. Now each game was slightly different (MTW, RTW, STW) but in the end basically if AI thought you should lose significantly and you won. Yet the AI was fairly poor at this. For instance last night, I had 300 to 400 men, mostly barbarian infantry and light Javelin throwers, and a gold valor calvary unit, against around 500 naked fanatics. I suppose if I hadn't thrown the javelins or charged I would have lost, but it hardly seemed a insurmountable challenge.

So how hard should it be for a Heroic Victory to be achieved in ETW?

Plus what should the benefits be? I mean I thought it kind of sucked at the few times you did hold the gates of whatever city with peasants and all you got was a little map marker.

I'd like to see

Statues of General in question
Celebration Parade
A memorial of some meaning

Of course I have no idea how AI works this time around, but i'm bored and this seemed a semi new topic :)

:2cents:

It is the difficulty that makes the game fun.

The challenge you have to work at to win, is what gives it value.

If it takes you three weeks to gain your first victory, what a great day that will be.

AI difficulty should progress in levels of advanced individual training, raising you eventually to tactical mastery.

Then you will be ready to play against the most dangerous enemy, the accomplished multiplayer.

Good Luck and Have Fun Everyone :charge:

It'll probably more difficult to win a heroic victory except through clever use of terrain, cavalry, and/or artillery. Since most units are capable of ranged-attack, you'll no doubt incure quite a bit of losses in any situation.

However, I don't have much knowledge on this type of warefare, despite the love of the Gods. Sometimes the hatred of men is stronger...

I think if you get a single general respected with many wins, a monument may be erected.

For a single heroic victory, I think a successful defence wwhile outnumbered heavily.

What does the monument even do? Is it basically there to stroke the player's ego?

Probably, I think it would be the same as the Cathedral movie in M2TW.

Akin to "YOU DID SOMETHING COOL, HERES A MOVIE"

Monuments could give you Prestige points and raise the public order of the province they appear in.

After all a big shiny statue is bound to make people think "Oooooh, guess we shouldn't mess with that guy, he's awesome".

Then when we are invading enemy territory we can go straight into destroying the monuments, just to irritate the enemy general/king/leader.

Also maybe they could raise tourism income? :laugh4:
