View Full Version : Sex-Changing Daughters to sons

Is it possible to do the above? You see, I had an idea to do an AAR around the rise of one of my plebians to the ranks of nobilites and then to the imperial throne. Unfortunately, the man which was going to start it all had a glorious career, topped with conquering Carthage and taking the title Africanus, and then settled down to have four daughters. Which has pretty much ruined the entire scheme. Is it possible to fix one of those daughters into a man? None of them are of age yet. =/

Erm, I'm sorry to tell you this (which you you most probably will already be fearing) but no. Unless you are some kind of God or something:tongue:
No sons? Hah! What kind of a man bears 4 daughters and no sons? J/K, but imagine how a person o that era would feel if something like that did happen:dizzy2:

Ummm....I think not...but he could always adopt someone, in-game or RP. Was rather common in Rome, and the adopted son was completely regarded as a biological son.
Edit: Beaten with mere seconds.

Wow, that is an epic failure. Seriously, mocking a completely new member who has yet had time to learn about the finer points of the RTW engine, not only acting like a total jerk but also giving the entire EB community, and thereby the EB team itself, a bad reputation...it just doesn't seem nice to me.

I wonder if he wasn't referring to the in-game guy who so rudely threw a wrench in the gears of a fine plan...?

Hmmm, I believe he referred to the Roman Family Mamber, Appo. Let us not condemn someone right away before we are sure of his true intentions.

I also think he ment the FM in game.:dizzy2: After all he was the one who failed to have sons...

You could do a Jewish RP thing, where the line is passed matriarchally.
a completely inoffensive name

Is this how the EB forums is gonna start cleaning itself up from trolls and spammers....

To clarify:
Epic failure at on the part of your character. I have NEVER seen that happen. You should post a screen. Of all the CTDs and all the other weird crap I've had to put up with to enjoy EB, I have never EVER EVER had that happen to me. You sir are one of the truely blessed people...
Seriously, best thing I've heard all day. You really should just have him adopt another guy. I mean the chance of that is 1 in 16 or 6.25%.
I have NEVER seen that happen. .
I get it in every campaign I do. It's not rare, and I always end up with more daughters overall.

I play campaigns that focus on slow expansion so I'm usually always somewhat short on FMs. I could see this happening if you just did a lots of expanding and then stopped or had few children around at the start of a campaign. RTW will sometimes throw adoptions and MOTHs at you until you're fully loaded on FMs. Theoretically, then it'll start giving you only girls probably.
MIITW is way worse at it though and I've been bankrupted by having to pay upkeep for 5+FMs and only have 3 cities.
Oh yeah... forgot :balloon:

In my AAR campaign, my royal family has only one son in the current generation. There are tons of daughters, but I have to go back three or four generations to get a son. This may cause some nice succession problem role-playing. And this will be the second time that has happened in my AAR campaign.

Lol, we seriously need a cross dresser trait for generals.
I know the feeling of having ''just daughter's'' in the family, sucks, had a bloodline descending from Cocolitanos destroyed because my guys just dont produced male babies, had to adopt some FM's as replacements, which they ended too with just daughters, result: i stopped playing EB for 5 months or so
That's the lovely thing about playing as Rome. Julius Caesar Pontifex Maximus had only a legitimate daughter, and he married her to Pompey. He adopted a nephew after death. Roleplay that here.
Grr... I hate it... I lost the Avrelia Cotta family thanks to that... <.<. So flustrating :shifty:

Well, it seems you're going to have to settle with a son-in-law, boy. I know it sounds shameful, in fact, it is downright degrading having four useless daughters with their unrelated, peasant husbands.
Let's approach the situation as Methuselah would, and look on the bright side of things: as soon as your great leader dies, there will be four young contending son-in-laws vying for the throne, unless you happen to spring a nephew into the scene...
Remember, blood and iron is the key to everything.

Well, okay, I guess. I had hoped for some coding cheat with the save game, but I guess not. :( Thanks for your solace, at least. It is a shame that the wonderful EB mod is let down by the awfulness of the hardcoded RTW game engine, though. =/ I can't even marry his daughters to another one of my generals.

Hey, don't knock RTW too hard. They did a pretty good job. This game was made years ago, yet EB is a mod that makes it all fresh and wonderful.
Sucks dude. Anyone know if it is a straight 50 50 chance to produce either sex?
I thought I'd have a look into this, and here (http://secretundergroundbase.com/?page_id=145) is what I came up with.
Although I've only tested in on characters which have yet to come of age, everything seemed fine in the test, no CTD in sight!

So you actually managed to do a sex-change?:jawdrop:
Indeed. Without crashes, which makes a change. As I said I've only tested on characters < 16 years, didn't get round to trying it last night on other characters, but then it presents problems as I would have to manually create a bodyguard unit, which I don't know how to do properly yet.

You have to teach me how to do that or make it into a mini-mod:beam:. One of the most annoying things for me is that direct father-son dynasties last only for 3-4 generations.
PS: Did you name the new son or did the game choose the name automaticly?
Well the game stores names as numbers, which index into a list of names for the type of character and the faction. I just left the numbers as they were and the name changed appropriately when the gender changed, but to choose the name you would have to cross reference the numbers and the list (I assume it is one of the descr_ files. descr_names?) and put the right one in.
You changed the sex of your daughters? That's gross man.
That's awesome Chris, you need to make it into a mini-mod. :2thumbsup:

By Ahura Mazda! If we could manipulate this, we could have distant cousins marrying each other, just like they did in Antiquity; even brothers and sister (Incest thread springs to mind).
I propose that more research be put into this, in the name of science history.

Okay, so why am I starting to get reminded of The Fuzz's epic "This excites me." thread in the EBII forum now...? :inquisitive:
Chris... .... ... Why do you have to be so awesome?
Cheers for you, since you always manage to surprise me, and leave me with an open mouth for the rest of the day. :medievalcheers:

I definitely will do, once I can automate it. At the minute it requires some manual adjusting by me to get it to the right place and find it. I'm getting closer though, just takes time.

Sort of related to cousing marrying, I will soon test if characters from different factions can marry, and what effect that would have on the game. Also, since the marriage seems to be a one way link, from the man to the wife/character it might be possible to have someone as a wife of more than one man. I'll try that soon too.
