A rather long but very interesting article from New Scientist...

Our world might be a giant hologram...

That's scary.

I like where he compares the 5th dimension to a Pringle chip on the first page. Anyways, all in all I thought it was a wierd article. I cant imagine all that we see, do, and feel is all a 2D projection/illusion. It seems 3D to me. :dizzy2:

Agreed, the Pringle metaphor may be just about the best concise description of what 5D anti-de Sitter space looks like that I have seen. Much better than describing it as "saddle-shaped".

Very interesting indeed.

What is 5d anyways? I never understood that (or 4-d).

4-d length-width-height-time.

5-d same as above but with mustard.

So I'm not very intellectual, but are they saying that what we're seeing is actually light bouncing back from some far end of the universe?

I don't like the idea we're holgrams ~:mecry:

Any universe that doesn't implode in on itself during my lifetime is an awesome universe in my book.

That would be physically impossible, since the "far end" of the universe (in any sense that relates to us) is defined by ... wait for it ... the speed of light. Think about it.

You can, of course, send a spaceship hurtling far away and slowly unveil those curtains of darkness.

And I completely agree with ACIN. But I hate the idea that we might be holograms. Not cool...

Well, that's just the new idea when they start solving the pelicularities of Schrodingger equation...

My Modern Physic's lecturer once said that the quantum mechanics gives a full projection of 3D atomic orbitals, with just knowing electron density function in the outer layer of the atoms... And I only got 75 out of 100

Let me look about their equation...

...God is a pringle?

actually, based on the article, god isn't a pringle, but rather a ruffles.:clown:
but as I firmly believe that God is not a food item, I will say he really is not a potato chip, and that he really looks like nothing we can imagine, just like a good muslim ought to.

why do I get a feeling that this theory up there makes no sense? now I'm truly confused to the point of exploded head.

Actually, Universe is expanding faster than the speed of light. This is possible because space is not matter, and thus can move much faster than the speed of light.
