View Full Version : The console ?
First, I would like to say that Europa Barbarorum is a GREAT mod.
In fact, I've got a technical problem that is not only on EB, but on RTW too.
Since several weeks, I am on Vista and when I play EB or RTW, I cannot open the console (with ²) during the game.
That's a problem, because I make some modding on the map (for example, I modified the regions and settlements names), and the command "toggle_fow" is very useful for this.
How can I have this console back ?
Thanks for your answer.
PS : I am french, so excuse me if my english is approximative :sweatdrop:

Strange, you're French so you have an azerty keyboard too. You should be albe to open the console with "²".
Unless, maybe, you have changed the function of that key in the option menu...
BTW I must remind you that when you change the settlement names you must change all the other files that make use of them too (trait files etc.. and especially the EB script because else: no reforms or anything). You probably know this but it doesn't do any harm reminding you...
And out of pure curiosity, may I ask why changing the regions and settlement names?
Oh it's nothing, in fact I play with the romani, and I changed some city names in order to make them sound more like "roman". For example Kart-Hadast --> Carthago or Taras --> Tarentum.
My problem is strange, 'cause I didn't have it when I was on XP.
You say it's possible to change the button for the console in the "options" menu, how dou you do that ?

You can't change the button for the console but you can set "²" for another command and then the console doesn't work anymore of course.
But I think the problem might have to do with Vista. I'm in need for a new PC, but I stick stubbornly with my old XP, Vista is the reason for everything bad :p
Perhaps this (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=104206&highlight=console) will help.

And this could especially helpful:
It's from the thread quoted in the thread that bovi quoted.
That's probably because Microsoft Infrared Receiver (integrated in Vista) interferes with RomeShell. Go to Device Manager and didable it while plaing RTW. Than install it again (search for hardware changes and it will install autom.). I have found this on other forum and works for me.
It may be also other infrared receiver that causes problems (keybord,...).
