I've been playing RTW since it came out, but I still have surprises with this game.

Today I discovered a new issue that allow some kind of cheating.

Antiochia was besieged, I sallied, inflicted some losses and got back in the city, then ended turn. CTD.

I reloaded the autosave, changed a few moves and realised I could sally again, on the same turn, sallied, inflicted losses, hit "end turn", CTD.

So I reloaded again and was able to sally again, crippling the besieging army enough for it to retreat.

It looks like the memory of the sally is lost everytime the game is reloaded. Is it RTW engine or the EBBS, I don't know.

I won't do it again....

(well maybe except in very exceptionnal circumstances:embarassed:)

RTW engine. EBBS has no memory (that's why the game runs so slow, the script has to check everything again every turn).

Funny find, but I'd rather have no CTD's at all :p

I ran into this in Vanilla. . . Sally by my teeny little HA army, ran out of arrows, went back inside the city and let the timer expire. It let me do that 4 times! The last time, the enemy were beaten and retreated. No CTD required.

I think that exploit (cheat?) was fixed in later editions. . . only tried it the one time 'cuz it was so funny.

The sally rest upon loading (or in your case CTD) is a vanilla issue. Frankly I never worried about it since the AI ALWAYS can sally more than once if the issue arises, and I would rarely find myself wanting to do so (fighting the mongols in BI being the exception).

Mongols? BI? Huns I hope?

Mongols in MTW II is a PAIN, all with 3 silver chevrons, silver armour and Bronze? weapons :-) Same with the second wave of Eastern invaders who also fields some rocket launcegrs making your Ribaults look like child's toys. I am happy if my English Yeomen has just 1 or 2 silver chevrons (they are hard gotten in MTW II) at that point:-s

The Hordes are annoying as well. They settle a few provinces, you bring their armies down and depleted them and their population so both are low, then take the final city, BANG!! They have three- five full stacks looking for a new home :-(

But... challenge is fun in any case. WRE is funniest.

Mercenary Rocket Artillery and Bridge Battles are the cheap way to get rid of them.

It made me remind my first days that I played RTW, I remember to sally with julii at least 5 times maybe even more when britons besieged Alesia.
I am feeling to getting older ~:santa:
yeah they fixed it with later updates...

I think I found an exploit (unknown if it is unknown :-P):

If I besiege a town (playing as Romani) with either palisade or wooden walls w/ a full stack army (troop composition does not matter) and continuously max-out the number of rams that can be built each season, then no matter how many troops are in the city, the garrison will not sally and the town will simply surrender after it has ran out of food.

It's a rather cheap way to take a town, considering you end up having 40 + rams each time (possibly making the AI believe the army attacking the town is ridiculously larger than it is, so there's no chance of victory from a sally?).

Can anyone verify this or comment on whether you need a full stack army to do this, if it only works on towns w/ wooden walls and not stone, etc?
