Well as I switched i noticed that many units lost a special ability, or I just havnt found them in EB yet but did they take many special abilities away?

Like the General I remember him having the ability to stop retreating units with a horn call....and many spearmen had the phalanx formation

Huh? I don't think they've done away with special abilities. I can phalanx perfectly fine, though my general's rally doesn't seem to work very much. Just press "F" to have them do it, if they can. Have to be phalangites or phalanx

Are you referring to the fact the default settings hide the command interface in battle mode?

Well, just hover the cursor at the top of the screen and you will find all the comands and special abilities again. Alternatively learn the short cut keys.

A - fire at will
C - more spaced out formation for dealing with missiles
D - guard mode
R - Run
F - special, includes general's horn, phalanx, cantabrian circle, testudo? (I never used it hence the ?)
W - withdraw
S - Skirmish mode
Ctr+T - increase speed
P - cheat mode on
+/- - zoom

I think that's everything important?

Well im assuming that the EB team found that many of those special abilties to be VERY ahistorical. Also they were probably a pain in the ass to recode from RTW to EB.

Well jeez, what other special abilities are there? Phalanxes, are obviously historic and what generals don't rally their troops?

Rally troops is still in, he just needs to switch minimal UI off.

Phalanx was taken away because it's hardcoded that phalanx formation makes units use their spears underhand, and hoplites used spears overhand. Only phalangites used it underhand.

Start>All Programs>Europa Barbarorum>Preferences - Take the check out of minimal UI.

Hoplites already use overhand spears. Greek hoplites used their spears overhand in a shieldwall formation, just like they do in the game. Phalanxes, like the Makedonian Phalangitai, Pezhetairoi, Agyraspidai, used the phalanx formation, underhand long spears and smaller shields than hoplites, just like in the game.

I told you in another thread to read unit descriptions. Every unit gives you a brief description of the unit plus how the unit was used historically. These descriptions tell you how to use your units. You can play EB any way you like... you don't even have to activate the script each time you start a game if you don't want to, it's up to you. You can use armies of nothing but Samnite heavy infantry and extraordinarii cavalry as the Romani if you like. Nobody is making you play it a certain way.

But my advice would be to read everything and play EB as it was meant to be played.

Your general is not getting 'Rally troops' ability when they have another special ability for example phalanx or fire arrows or cantabrian circle(I think it's still there in EB).

Move the cursor to the top of the screen.
The buttons will appear from that, and disappear if you move away the cursor.

You can also press F1, tells you all the keyboard shortcuts.

I find the new screen layout VERY annoying though, the top 20% of my screen is unclickable, meaning you cannot send units out in a sweeping maneuver to the horizon. THAT annoys me so much I am considering stopping EB till it gets fixed.

So yall are saying the units still have the special abilities you just have to use the shortcut keys to activate them?
Wat is minimal UI do

Minimal UI takes away the bottom quarter of your screen, with all the unit portraits and special options. They're pretty useless for an experienced player

No.

And then you will be able to use the UI.
