assistants are not "greenified" and IIRC can only move, merge and soft delete posts/threads, things of that nature.

Moderators can issue warning posts and hard delete.

(Soft delete gets rid of the post/thread but leaves a copy)

pever summed things up quite nicely.

Basically Assistant Moderators command the authority of a Moderator just without a couple of the more "hardcore" powers. They are normally appointed when a green moderator needs assistance moderating a forum, hence the title :yes:
