View Full Version : Who you want to see in the Demo ( a poll for demo fanatics)

Yes, we have left the amusing realm of threads and moved to the pointless realm of polls...welcome :laugh4:

So which factions would you like to see in a demo?

There is no option such as I don't want a demo, because this is for DEMO FANATICS :)

This brings up a good point, I wonder which faction is going to be the 'standard' one. like England in M2TW and Julii on RTW. Anyway, I would very much like to see the 13 Colonies or India, they're entirely new and it would be a great opportunity to introduce new units and building structures, as well as resources.

The standard faction is almost certainly Britain.

I voted for a random faction. Purely because I'm far too cool to play as the popular factions. :laugh4:

I voted Prussia. This is their first appearance in a TW game and their infantry achieved legendary status in this era. What better way to preview Linear battle? Deutchland Uber Alles!

I like Prussia for their white and black colour scheme. It's just so ... efficient looking. Very German :laugh4:.

Probably. Past standard factions are featured on the front cover of the game e.g. Julii for Rome, English king for Medieval II. Empire: TW seems to have a multi front cover thingy going on depending on which country the game is sold in.

Spain, Sweden or Prussia in descending order of desire. Three factions which I'm (quite randomly, really) itching to play in ETW...

You left out France and a few other covers….but what I want to know is if they are paying Ioan Gruffudd for his picture being on the cover?

It looks a little strange seeing Hornblower dressed in an army uniform…

The German cover looks very original.

If you look at the men in the background closely, you'll see that in fact, the cover depicts what seems to be a Prussian soldier running from some redcoats with captured flags...

I'm just glad that from what I've seen the Polish uniforms will be dark red, and we'll probably be getting the Polish version here in Lithuania (it was Poland-Lithuania, although you couldn't really tell from the faction preview...), so it won't be that noticeable if that someone gets sloppy again and forgets to recolor. :laugh4:

I put my vote on Sweden. I do look forward playing as the Swedes, since this is the first time "my" country appears in a TW game, also it will be interesting playing a TW game with at least some focus on northern Europe.

This is a huge error on my part.

Just after voting I realised that I didnt want to spoil the game. In demos I simply want to test the basic without even touching the real deal. This means that the demo hopefully contains some insignificant and uninteresting country... like Great Brittain. Yes, that should do it.

Okay, on another note....

I voted Prussia but I'd like to play Austria. I'd like to see cannons or some interesting calvary, then again I'd take anything long as I get.

Awesome sig, I have one word, DEMO

I think it's almost certain we will get a 13 Colonies v British battle, as that seems to have been in nearly every trailer, and alot of screenshots and wall papers.

I'd like to see something with a little more culture difference to though, like maybe Ottomans vs a Euro faction or Euro's vs India Faction type thing.

All of this, and more...will be brought to you by

Great Britain vs France.

You won't want to give away too much in the demo, but a nice open plains battle between the old foes will whet our appetite, shut us up and allow us to see how the new 'ranged' fighting works.

The game will then still have shiney new naval combat, new agents, new provinces, urban fighting, and politics for the final few weeks of arguing.

Plus if something glaring is wrong CA can still make minor adjustments.

Im surprised it said on their calender that they were going to release a new unit today but its getting late and still nothing besides confirming the release date and updating the specs.

Polemists
01-28-2009, 05:44
It is late and it isn't.

It is late if we assume that they are a month late with releasing the game and all we have for it is a silly unit.

They are not late though when we view the whole 28 day period, known to some, as Feb.

In CA's defense when they did Rome demo, they did include Carthage vs Rome and Elephants, which was very different from Shoguns samurai demo, and when they did mtw2 demo, the animations were the main newness, and they did include two battles and five different factions, so it was different. Even gunpowder units and cannons were included.

I'd be happy with just land battles but I know alot of people want to see the new feature this time around to, which would be naval battles.

I think the naval battle is a good option because not only do we finally get to see in Naval battles are as hard or easy as several people think, but we get to also see the land battle animations during a boarding.

Of course, a land demo would also be interesting because I am curious to see how cannons work this time around and calavary.

Long as we get

I'm really looking forward to naval battles, so thats still my number one demo want. There hasn't been a decent ship to ship combat game in a very long time.

I still have fond memories of games like Sea Dogs and even the flawed sequel Pirates of the Caribbean. I liked the second one even though it was horribly buggy and unfinished, just becausre it had good boats.

Ah yes, PotC. Naval combat was the only thing that kept me comming back to it, and needless to say it got dumped right after I got my hands on Corsairs: The Return of the Legend. Although I don't think that came out anywhere beyond eastern Europe.

I'm thinking that for the demo we'll get a small naval battle, maybe a one-on-one of Thirteen Colonies vs. Brittish. Or maybe a RTW tutorial-esque battle where the player is given only a small fleet, say, one or two ships, and the AI controls two larger navies. Although I sincerely hope that's not the case, because all that interrupting by lame advisors annoyed me in those. It would be a good chance to see what good are the advisors this time around, though.

Polemists
01-28-2009, 13:47
I'm not sure what kind of advisors we have this time around, but i'm pretty sure if I did a poll people would want more attractive female advisors, and less stale voice sounding military advisors :laugh4:

Just a thought.

That said that would be rather upsetting, because in the Rome one all you really did was hold off one infantry charge, kill some archers, and then charge with main force. The whole thing was fairly short.

If it was a ship tutorial, it would probably be. A ship attacks with X so you have to use X kind of shot. Then a ship with a small crew attacks so you must fight them off in a anti boarding action. Then you must board ship whatever and destroy it.

Similiar to a POTBS mission.

And also a naval battle to test out how it works etc, etc.
