View Full Version : Empire forum name (2nd runoff poll)
Since Parliament only beat out Redoubt by 2 votes, nor did it manage to secure a flat-out majority, we're doing another runoff poll. Like last time, it will be open for 10 days.
This time it's just a straight up-or-down vote between Parliament and Redoubt. May the best one win! :knight:

Oh man!
Not again!
I am going to be having dreams about lousy forum names before long!
Okay, I’ll vote this time just to get it over with and done!
Which version of Parliament is it? --> there were a few variations in phrasing on the previous poll
Redoubt is a better name anyway....
I think Parliament suites this forum more, compared to the other forum names.

Yes, parliment sounds best.
and if you could call this forum

Polemists: Newly appointed minister of Demo?
Or is it the Minister of SPAM?...:inquisitive:
:focus:
Anyway, (trying to get into character for Empire) Hang all of this Republican Democracy, just give us a name (hopefully dealing with in the era).
I don’t care if it is The Camel Stables! Just Get On With It, my good man!:laugh4:

Clearly fisherking you do not comprehend the endless buracreacy of the time period that lead to ministers, and cabinets who actually get nothing done.
There are revolts, powerful passionate groups of people who get together.
For a single minded purpose.
In my case, a demo
Oh and spam implies that you just post something with no meaning or point repeatedly and off topic. I have talked about the topic in every single one of posts, and I mention demo for a purpose.
Cause I really want a demo.
I still think Parliment sounds good

He's right about this. He isn't spamming because he is replying to the points being made in the thread. There is a fine line however, so you had better do your best not to fall off it Polemists. :laugh4:
Also if he manages to get us a demo he can be forgiven a little spam. :clown:
In the strictest sense, spam is a term that has more than one meaning. One meaning is the repeating of the same thing over and over again. Such as.
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
stop playing spy we have too many
This sentence could very well be relevant to the situation, but that fact is irrelevant in how I chose to approach the matter.
There's also a difference between asking for a demo and demanding one.

well as this is about the forum name, i'll say I still think Parliment is best and it has most votes, so I guess we are waitin gon approval.
Secondly that would be spam, it does have many defintions, but usually falls into category of something that is not productive and non benefical being repeated again and again, and again to no benefit.
Each time I mention demo it is a in a context.
It would be nice to see naval battles...in a demo.
I would like to see a emergent faction or two...in a demo.
It's not just me sitting in a post going Demo, Demo, Demo, Demo, Demo, Demo.
As there is no where else to discuss the demo, as most official CA and Sega boreds ban demo discussion, it is good to have a outlet and discuss the many possibilities, options, and benefits both for and against...a demo.
I have never demanded it, at best I have highly hinted I wanted one. :)

I don't think hinted is the proper word when you sprinkle it ever so sweetly into every other sentence before mashing it into the poor reader's face with bold bombers and, dare i say it, italic stallions. :laugh4:

You have to admire his perseverance. I think I would have got bored by now. :laugh4: If we don't get a demo soon I imagine he will move to organised protests with signs and loudspeakers.

Somehow I feel as if I'm coming off incredibly preachy this morning, that's not my intention. I need another soda to wake up. :dizzy2: I think it's important to remember that CA are very much human, and can get annoyed.

Theres nothing wrong with him making very constructive posts, which he is! He just ads an allusion to wanting a demo in every post. At least once.
It gets old, and it communicates the point. But if you arent in a bad mood, its funny.
It cheered me up this afternoon.

*Ahem* :focus:
Wow, Parliament has definitely pulled away from Redoubt this time around. I'm still going to wait until the poll officially closes before calling it, but it looks we'll have a clear winner this time.

Yes Yes keep Redout
Redoubt is the logical and best name. Parliament sounds very silly to be honest.
-Edit: I'd say that many are voting for parliament perhaps because they've never heard of a redoubt before?
Martok, you must use your dictatorial powers and establish the Parliament as the forum name!
On the contrary, he should dissolve parliament and become dictator. :beam:

I voted for Parliament because it is appropriate to the time period, and evokes part of the spirit of the era.
Redoubt sounds great, but it's just a gereric military term that isn't specific to any paticular point in history. That's just the way I see it.

Welcome to the .org sic semper tyrannis, love the name
What Sir Beane says is true, I don't believe Junior Members have the power to vote. If you post around the .org enough, especially in well trafficked areas like the ETW forum or Entrance Hall, you should get promoted in no time.

@ Sic semper tyrannis
A good way to get noticed and build a reputation is to post in either the Welcome New Members thread or start your own introduction thread over in the Entrance Hall.
Other than that just try and make sure your posts are relevant, informative and polite and you'll be a member very quickly.

At the risk of steering this thread off topic, I wanted to thank you folks. That'll teach me to lurk!
43 - 19.
Looks like Parliament has a firm lead, that could change as there's still plenty of time but it's a large hill to climb for Redoubt.
Vote for Parliament, it's far more Funkadelic.

Uh! This started on January 26th for 10 days…
It’s now February 6th…it’s over, yes, no?
It looks like :Parliament won to me…but it may take an expert opinion from the boss….
I hope these exercises in democracy are at an end for the moment…it’s been a long hard road to get here.
I hope some of you like the name at least.

It is over, and Parliament has won (I don't see how it couldn't have given the results). Some of us do like the name. :2thumbsup:
I admit other, better names could have been chosen but in a democracy you can't always get what you want. Unless you revolt and force changes in policy. (Please don't revolt.)
