At least I think so. They are from Moesgaard last summer, the intensety and nature of the battles should be evident as some of them are series.

Battle

Phase 1, Contact and meleeing, people start falling, sometimes the side's tactic is tried here.

2. Chaos, attrition has worn down the lines, holes appeared and exploited, breakthroughs contained. At some point it looses cohesiveness and chaos ensues as one or both lines collapse. The battle become more fluid here with people maneuvering alone or in small groups all over the battlefield trying to kill others by surprise and from behind. Applying one side's tactic may bring this about.

3. Rally, since we do not fight to death, instead of routing, we reorganise, sometimes on the run forwards or in loose groups (only Ask and Ulfhednir can actually perform that feat), and fight in groups again. Sometimes phase 2 lasts till one side is annihilated though.

Should be evident on pictures and of interest to some.

Well that is a quite normal reaction of cultured southerners to northern barbarians. And rightly so, but you can pay us off, we DO accept Danegeld ;-)

I am a Viking re-enactor, we do martial arts with copies of viking weapons. Then all summer we travel around and do show or competetive fights to show the public what we can do and propagate some history, while craftsmen make and sell their wares and horsegir... PEOPLE show of their brea... original viking horses. That way the public can taste viking food, see Vikings cook, do crafts, fight, they can try on our sweaty and smelly armour and fondle our equipment (pun intended), they smell the woodsmoke, the sweat, etc etc. Moesgaard is the biggest battle in Scandinavia (Wolin is larger), and the more prestigous, all groups who wants to be reckoned something are there. It is a competetive battle and we fight to WIN. IE hard and applying various tactics.

There you go, more can be found on www.ask-vikingekampgruppe.dk or www.ulfhednir.dk. There are also Youtube clips of us, try a search for "Moesgaard".

Aha, now I get the picture:yes: Cool stuff, and let me tell you that I am an Heterogenes (or half-breed:tongue:) myself with Barbarian genes, so I have more respect to you:laugh4:

Yet again, you seem to distant yourself from me (or rather the other way around). What's Danegeld?

You will learn. I thought anyone with an interest in history knew that ;-)

Danegeld was money (silver) that Frankish and British rulers paid the Vikings to sail away peacefully. In the late 10th- early 11th century the sums brought to Denmark and S. Sweden by the armies of Sven Tveskæg and Knud d. Store were enormous.

Aha, I see. I already made a connection between Geld (which also means money in Dutch, from where I hail partially) and gold/silver. And my interest in history is (for the time being) limited to Classical and Hellenistic times.
