View Full Version : Classic 90s Songs
There seem to be very few Classic 00s songs (https://forums.totalwar.org/vb/showthread.php?t=111619). I thought the internet has fractured modern popular music so much there's got to be some brilliant bands, not necessarily popular, that are churning out classics.
Any songs produced in the 90s that you consider a classic?
So many, (I'll limit mine to 5 for now)....
"Drawing Flies (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rS3DQuoHRDs)" - Soundgarden (before they went psychedelic fluff)
"Of Wolf and Man (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P0j7evRIbJA)" - Metallica ( album had a lot great songs but this was my fave )
"What You Give (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-hoe5DI9N58)" - Tesla
"Nothing Compares 2 U (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rO8JWbG6bVw)" - Sinead O'Connor ( Prince is a talented songwriter and Sinead nailed this one)
"Hurricane Blues (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3A3GhHJ8JLE)" - Linton Kwesi Johnson ( ...running from the pollution of a contrived heart.... )

Gangsters paradise - Coolio
I've been missing you - puff daddy
children - robert miles
Sandstorm - darude
2pac - changes
limited myself to 5 as well, listening to nothing compares now... classic!!
Well a few obvious ones, but most definately classics in the biggest sense:
Teen spirit by Nirvana
Wonderwall or live forever by Oasis
Killing in the Name of or bombtrack by rage against the machine
song 2 by blur
Glycerine by Bush
Bittersweet symphony by the Verve
Black album by mettalica
...
you get my drift.

I have a less-than-secret love for 90s songs.
So here's a few.
Skee-Lo - I Wish
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icr0eW1fRSs
The Real McCoy - Another Night
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QNbRMG-4wAI
Harvey Danger - Flagpole Sitta (no idea wtf the video is about)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vUPBIdyDHRE
But besides the kitschy music, there were also some great artists: NIN, Beck, Deep Forest, The Cranberries, etc.. too many to name.
The 90s were a weird decade but the music is lasting better than I had expected.

What I got- by Sublime
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sal-bp_ciC4
Good Riddance(Time of Your life)- by Green Day
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPrIlX_Cmt8&feature=related
baby one more time- by Britney Spears
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bsniYwSaWg
Because the 90s were filled with pop. Some NSYNC, Backstreetboyz, Hanson, etc. songs should probably be mentioned as well. Admit it. No one can resist good mind-deadening pop and the 90s pop stars knew what they were doing.

Gah, Skee-Lo XD
Yeah, 90s had a little of everything. Hip Hop was exploding and rock was trying to find the next-big-thing after Cobain's death. Nu-Metal, Electronica, when nothing stuck, pop music filled in.
Some more:
"Knockin Boots (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q76IlF5HES0)" - Candyman
"Gonna Make You Sweat (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b714Wi4CDsQ)" - C & C Music Factory
"No Rain (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmVn6b7DdpA)" - Blind Melon
"Dear Mama (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNcloTmvTeA)" - 2Pac
"Throw Your Set In the Air (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80C6pYK-hb0)" - Cypress Hill

I doubt we'll forget the big ones from Blur and Oasis anytime soon.
"Candle in the wind" will likely live forever as well.
What I got- by Sublime
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sal-bp_ciC4
This song is very chill. I love sublime in general.
Anything by Soul Coughing is classic in my book. Their stuff's getting yanked off YouTube, but I see MTV's got Super Bon Bon (http://www.mtv.com/videos/soul-coughing/10061/super-bon-bon.jhtml).
Has anybody mentioned Massive Attack yet? If not, why not? Talk about an influential '90s band. The first time I heard Angel (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jZsHNkAJBDU) I was blown away. When that guitar comes in at 2:25 out of nowhere ...

G. G. Allin's cover of "Carmelita." (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TKwa3g3gRos)
As it's a cover, I'm fairly sure it's not explicit, but be wary that it IS G. G. Allin.
