Does someone know, how to disable those banners in battle? (you know, the flags...)
I did not find it in the options

go to the EB mod folder. once in, there should be a folder called "preferences". go into that, and look for the preferences.txt file-that's got what you want. there should be a banners part: change it from TRUE to FALSE (always use capital letters). there you have it.
you can disable those ugly green arrow markers in the entry as well: go to disable_arrow_markers, and change the FALSE into TRUE.

great, thanks. so you can't enable and disable during battle with some key-combination. very sad :shame:

Used to it you get very soon, young padhawan. Long way it is, and hard for you becoming expert modder, very long way...
I like them on... especially as the Romans.

If your running under at least 1.1 go through your "All programs" start then EB and then preferences where you will find 4 boxes untick the banners box, easy.
Once you get used to no banners or arrows you'll never go back.

I once try to remove those banners and got defeated because I forgot where my horse archers skirmishing away and run without coordination when I control my heavy cavalry and spearmen......:embarassed:
after all they are not realistic, but they are useful as signature on the battlefield (the mini map is too unclear).... just pretend it as the general's "Sixth sense" to know exact positions of a regiment...

the banners are extremely usefull, because you see who's routing. but without banners it's just more beautyful

I disabled the banners too. I just use those "green arrows" to locate my troops, works fine http://i.fokzine.net/s/puh2.gif

Actually, I did have the problem when playing those horse faction, they must spread their army to effectively enggage enemy from all directions , and the banners are handy for identification in the heat of batlle.... (or was that I who unaccustomed to use them instinctively?):embarassed:
If I played as a phalanx or another infantry heavy formations with fewer cavalrymen, there was no problem, as we stick together closely....

You are not alone on that mate :beam:
music, banners, and charges of cavalry when you use all those together you are likely to be an addict like me
I have not played infantry dominated factions for ages, only to test my mod I play them.

It takes some time to get used to play without the banners. I remember my first battles were a bit chaotic due to the lack of banners. I also tend to suffer a bit more casualties this way, but I like it as it seems more realistic. Generals did not have an absolute knowledge of exact unit positions during the battle. Seeing everything from a bird view is a huge advantage already.
However for multiplayer battles banners are a must, because every tiny bit counts there. After all you are fighting against an intelligent being not an AI.

If you think battle map as a chessboard they are realist mate.
Or I am too addicted to them even more than cigarette.

I had my first battle without banners and green arrows in the thick forests of Thrace. Boy was that chaotic, but a lot of fun!!

Thanks a lot!
The battle control options say that the "j"-key should toggle the banners and that some F-number should toggle the arrows I think, but I didn't get either to work. Now for nicer gamleplay and screenshots...though I believe some higher graphics settings would help there as well...damn age old laptop :P
