View Full Version : Wrong shortcut generated in EB install

Well, I found one reason why you have to install to some other directory besides program files. The program shortcut (on my machine) is:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe -mod:eb -show_err"

this of course causes the missing shortcut dialog window to appear where it attempts to scan for the right executable.

Instead it should be:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Activision\Rome - Total War\RomeTW.exe" -mod:eb -show_err

Move the final double-quotes to right after the exe in your install script and the problem should be solved.

This is not the reason why installing under Program Files is a problem. Yes, it's wrong, it's in the frequent issues, and I now know better how to do it for the next installer. Those who use the Trivial Script are not affected.

Thank you very much, Ferromancer! You just saved me from having to install the whole thing again!

I certainly wouldn't have been able to see it in any of the instructions for the mod. I know there's masses of help from the EB team, but sometimes it's a case of trying to find a needle in haystack trawling through everything.

Cheers, mate!

doesnt the Program Files issue only affect Vista users that haven't disabled UAC?

I installed it under Program Files and had no problems. I have XP. Never heard of a mod requesting this before - I have not looked into the reason why EB gives this warning.

Yeah, I have EB in Program Files too. I don't have a problem (now) either.

Maybe the EB team are just being ultra-cautious. They do seem to like to obviate all potential difficulties.

Vista + UAC + Program Files = trouble.
Installing outside of Program Files = Always works.

I intend to never have Vista installed on my PC. Refuse to get new PC until Windows 7 (or whatever it's called) or later version is out.

I spoke to someone from a certain well-known PC company and they are doing a good business offering a service to people to *downgrade* Vista to XP. lol.

Yeah, I know a number of people who have paid to do that. It is ironic that people are paying more for old technology. I might even buy an old rig soon, so I can play MTW again.
