Hi
I understand that in MTW2 you can man the towers and even put some catapults in it. Is this feature going to be used in EB2? or do you beleive is not such a good idea?
Thx

City towers? You can't really man them, they just remain inactive unless you have guys near them. Unlike RTW where all towers were active no matter where you had men.

I heard it is possible to place catapults and the like on walls, although I don't really see the point- being able to have magonels and trebuchets behind the walls.

MAA, thx for your reply.
It seems that other mod managed to man the towers and even put catapults and the like on the walls. If this´s indeed possible, do you think it´s a good idea?
Thx

I personally think its silly, especially for a first release... I bet a mini-mod could easily be fit in.

I understand that due to the huge amount of work neede for EBII, this is not very important but i would like to put ballistas on the walls.

I would rather have tons of siege tower weapons like they actually did.
You know what would be awesome? If the siege weapon menu had more options.
Like, if we could build giant mounds of dirt, or tunnels, or even more versions of the siege towers. So we could have a second Helepolis, with giant katepeltai and lithoboloi that would reduce entire sections of the wall to rubble and kill hundreds of defenders.
What else could we include there?
Ohh, and of course countermeasures to siege weapons/tactics. In RTW, the only way to take out a siege tower or ram is basically to set it on fire. We should have cool stuff like men with ropes who would get the rope under the ram head and pull it up and drop it back down. And lithoboloi and katepeltai in the towers, so we don't need silly things like flaming arrows.

That's nice, why don't you figure out how to mod all that.
NO U.
I realize that it's impossible, but since everyone else is throwing around impossible ideas too, I thought, hey, might as well join in.

If the siege tower code is intact from RTW, mounting a realistic amount of arrow throwers would be possible.

Would that be as a seperate unit or part of the tower itself?

I belive it would be a separate unit but i´m not sure.

Make them like the RTW epic wall siege towers but more realistic with numerous weapon mounts and various catapult sizes. Something like the Helioplois for the highest level walls like desert said might be cool. Its just that the generic M2TW siege towers detract from the whole experience.
Will EB also turn off the inward facing tower defenses as the siege like in SS as the AI doesn't recognize it.
And of course, could there be more artillery in a unit? Cause it feels like I'm paying 10000 mani for 60 men to man a single gun. Of course, damage would need to be reduced, but still.

Well, they aren't meant to replace archers. They take out high value targets like generals and catanks.
There are 8 katapeltai per unit for the light ones, and 4(?) for the heavy ones. So that's fine, but I would love for there to be 8 in both.
Katapeltai weren't really designed with cataphracts in mind, and aren't really that useful anyways.
What I was talking about in my previous post were the stone-throwers, which have like 80 men for 2 guns, or 60 men for 1 gun. And the lighter ones (with 80 men) do as much damage as the heavy 1 talent ones. :dizzy2:
What I propose is either stronger walls and more stone throwers, or weaker AND more numerous stone throwers,

Yeah but on the other hand the romans sometimes used huge ammounts of their torsion weapons. At the battlefield that was recently found in northern germany there were great ammounts of large metal spears fired from ballistae. So at least the Romanoi ones should have more men, but however :juggle2:

The Heliopolis did not actually work very well, except at basis for The Colossus.
As I recall it you cannot put siege engines of any kind in towers in MTW II.
Lastly, if we get a working Heliopolis we might as well get the aforementioned Ark of The Covenent as well,
and The One Ring,
Azg Nazg Durbatulug,
Azg Nazg Trakatuluk...
Small siege engines in towers is something that was done and I miss, but the rest... no thanks, I am a sort of stickler for historical accuracy...

I hedge my bets it will not be a flamewar. We are adults with sense...
