Dear Forum

Is it possible to renumber or rename newly recruited Marian First Cohorts? The newly established unit has roughly a name like “First Cohort Legion_” and I wish to rename the unit in “First Cohort Legion I” etc.
Is there any possibility to accomplish this?

Best regards
Marcel

I just read in some other posts, that the „First Cohorts“ are numbered automatically when the „Legions come along“. What does this mean? My first “First Cohort” is already in a stack with 8 Marian cohorts and still does not have a “legion number” (i.e. I)

Only cohorts trained in Rome get the numbers, as far as I know.

This feature is available only in BI and not in ordinary RTW.

But in my opinion there must be a possibility in the script to assign dufferent numbers to the First Cohorts... like in Konny´s Mini-Mod. Is someone well versed in such script-things? Please advise. Thank you very much.

This feature is available only in BI and not in ordinary RTW.It was enabled in RTW also with RTW 1.5 patch, which was released at the same time as BI 1.6. I don't recall when I fixed the EB-specific 1st cohort numbering problem, but it may have been after EB 1.1. It should definitely work in EB 1.2.

Weird, I have RTW Gold(RTW v1.5 and BI v1.6) but I never got this thing working in RTW!:inquisitive:

They most certainly gets names and numbers in BI.

Perhaps RTW Gold is the problem? I use it as well, and I've never realized any numbers... (Doesn't Gold use different patches then RTW + BI?)

Positive. In clean EB 1.2 this ability is for marian (and augustan?) first cohorts only.
I have added the "legionary_name" attribute to my polybian triarii too, to keep track of my legions and it worked very well indeed.

So all I would need to do is install vanilla rtw and then bi and then patch up in order to install EB 1.2. Then train 1st cohort troops in rome in order to get numbered legions.

This reminds me:

Roman first cohort units are named "Legio (number)" by default.

I had also added a tag for those who might wish to name them "Legio (something) (number)". The tag is named Latium2LegionName; it's defined in EB\Data\text\imperial_campaign_regions_and settlement_names.txt and is assigned the string " " right now. If you assign the tag the value "Italica", for example, the first cohorts will be named "Legio Italica (number)".

And this can be done for all settlements??

And this can be done for all settlements??Potentially, yes. But First Cohorts are recruitable only in Rome.
