Tis a great food to be sure, but its much better with brown sauce in some sort of bread/roll than on its own.

-it isnt too salty
-it isn't too fatty

I am American, I have grown up to learn that there is only two choices and that you must pick one and stick with it completely. There is no third/multiple parties choices.

I'll just put you down for "great".
Just this once, I think the lack of "Gah" is appropriate. There is no Gah! when it comes to bacon.

acin, you haven't bought anything in the last 15 years, have you? Try going to a store to buy a pair of sneakers - or just about anything for that matter. :dizzy2:
BTW, I'm with Ares on the salty bit, but I figure any bacon is 90% fat, so I don't get the "fatty" issue. :laugh4:

yeah thats the problem  i just hate fat on things, the textures horrible, the feel is slimy, it tates greasy and looks putrid, not to mention cause health problems, and choke you if you have a small gullet, the really fatty bits are my worst enemy, same applies to pork chops :whip:

Has anyone previously observed a correlation between the food's un-healthiness and its popularity? Not joking, it always seems to be true. More so with Americans, however. I have gotten the impression that they will eat anything that is 1: fried beyond wildest recognition or 2: covered with melted cheese, preferably nacho cheese.
Heck, I have listened to people who said that fried Snickers (the candy bar) and bacon fried in butter and covered with melted cheese are their favourites. Down here where I live, in the South of America, everything is eaten fried, including but not limited to apple pies, chicken, cornmeal, pickles, etc.
The Onion, a spoof news company has a humorous video on this topic here (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31JNEVHZxO8).

Dont really care that much about Bacon, my genetic heritage gives me enough of heart attack risk that i dot need Bacon to increase that. Moose, Deer,Beef, reindeer or Sheep, beat pork any day of the week as my choice of meat anyway.:smash:

leave room in the poll for "terrible" as an option. this poll is unfair!
I despise bacon, whether pork, turkey, or any other concieveable form. I do not see how anyone likes the smell (like burnt eggs mixed with salt and roadkill IMO), the taste is just..appaling, and the whole appearence resembles some skunk that was dyed pink, and then dismembered and flattened, leaving a strip of fleshypink with lighter, thin pinkish lines in the middle. don't even get me started on the feeling.:furious3:
I seriously do not understand its greatness..can someone enlighten me? I mean, is there supposed rto be something good about this odious, and unhealthy abomination?

It's...bacon! Nothing more to say...
I agree with you about turkey bacon tho. Terrible. You cannot call it bacon unless it used to go 'oink' in its past life.

Strike maybe more tolerant of the anti-bacon (ers? ites?) but I don't like my staple food to be labeled as pink skunk.
it's ok but I'll have steak over bacon. Bacon can't carry a decent meal, great when wrapped around goat cheese or fish. Just a piece of bacon, no.
Turkey bacon is great in a fish chowder, and is also good in egg sandwhiches of different sorts, but pork bacon is just gross AND too heavy.

I did pick a side. It is a public poll. You will easily see that despite my predisposition to consume healthy foods, I voted bacon as "the greatest food?".

It's alright.
Best used as a wrap around/with other, leaner meats, to protect from overheating when cooking.
And I admit a fondness for "swanky frankies": bacon-wrapped kosher hotdogs (yes, I live with the irony).
Also not bad spicing up any canned foods in hard times. I can't count the times that army cooks or supply guys provided chunks of bacon to perk-up C-rations in my army days. Quickly-digestible protien, on a level with (harder to get or maintain) chocolate, for quick energy fixes.
But yeah; it'll prolly kill ya 2-3 years before your time, taken in excess.

I love bacon and think it's a great food. But it's not good for me, so I eat it sparingly. Nothing like eggs sunny-side up, buttered toast, bacon, and half cantaloupe filled with Fage Greek yogurt sprinkled with berries, and a mimosa or three on a Sunday morning, opposite a lovely lady with whom to converse and share the pleasure.

Bacon? Great food, but not the greatest. I'm afraid the distinction of "greatest" food, at least in the category of bacon, falls to scrapple.
Sure, bacon may be more malleable in its uses, but a good, well-cooked scrapple will always be the ultimate breakfast meat dish.
Edit: and I'm willing to bet all y'all who hate bacon have never had a properly-cooked slice of bacon. In my opinion, at least, bacon should be cooked until the fat becomes crispy; not burnt or hard, but definitely crispy. It completely changes the flavor and texture of the bacon.

Bacon's great with eggs, provided it's fried crispy, as the Reverend Joe stated so righteously.
Not everyday food though. Should be served on special occasions only.
